Aho! Universal embodiment of the kayas and wisdoms of all the buddhas throughout the whole of space
and time,
Source of wondrous lives of liberation beyond imagining,
One and only father of all the buddhas, Manjushri, manifest
in the form of this glorious lama,
Whose learning and accomplishment are beyond compare—
Khyentse Wangpo, care for me! Guide me! Inspire me! Make me
one with you!
This great master’s wisdom embodiment, the actual manifestation
of Padmasambhava, Vimalamitra,
And Manjushrimitra, who mastered all the Buddha’s teachings
in their entirety,
And whose enlightened actions to dispel the darkness of this
degenerate age extend throughout the whole of Jambudvipa—
Manjughosha in person, Chökyi Lodrö, care for me! Guide me!
Inspire me! Make me one with you!
Inseparable from the queen of dakinis, Yeshé Tsogyal of Shelkar,
Spiritual consort who extended the supreme vajra life of
Pema Yeshe Dorje[1], this great master, and cared for and delighted him—
One and only mother, Tsering Chödrön, care for me! Guide me!
Inspire me! Make me one with you!
Guided by the spontaneously awakened Padma Vijaya,[2]
Keeper of the treasuries of the profound and vast kama and
terma, tantras, commentaries and pith instructions,
You who aspire to serve Manjughosha throughout all your lives—
Gyurme Tekchok Tenpé Gyaltsen,[3] care for me! Guide me! Inspire me! Make me one with you!
Care for me! O masters, guide me! Look into my mind!
We, the beings of this degenerate age, are so accustomed to
our negative ways,
That, as if completely blind, we are left with no chance of
gaining liberation,
And there is no hope for us but you: we call upon you now
with fervent longing!
This deluded perception of ours, cultivated throughout beginningless
time, is as solid and inflexible as a lump of iron,
And still we have yet further delusion, like a layer of rust,
brought about by our misguided actions—
Heal this delusion of ours, we pray!
Grant us freedom from all attachment and impediments,
And always be our guides, forever turning our minds towards
the Dharma!
At the level of seeming reality, negative actions are more
numerous than atoms in this world,
Whilst thoughts and actions that accord with the Dharma are
even rarer than pure gold—
Cut right through the tight mesh of all our deluded thoughts
and perceptions, we pray!
And empower us to practise the excellent Dharma on the path
of the supreme vehicle!
Break through the ties that bind us to the eight worldly concerns,
and all our false, mistaken views,
As well as any tendency we have to view the practices
of accumulation and purification as causes for happiness in this life alone!
Establish us securely on the supreme path delighting all the
buddhas,
And empower us to carry out vast oceans of enlightened conduct!
As appearances and actions dawn as the mandala of great primordial
awareness,
The wisdom of our very own rigpa, and, through the sun of
the guru’s blessings,
We seize the stronghold wherein delusion is purified into
its basic nature,
Grant us the excellent fortune to meet the three kaya guru
face to face!
This was written by the old white-haired Mangala, from
his bed, near a flowering garden in north-east France, to fulfil the wishes of Tulku Sonam Gyaltsen (Sogyal Rinpoche), son
of the Lakar family of Dharma benefactors, who requested a prayer of ‘calling the guru from afar’ to accompany
a practice of guru yoga. May it be of benefit!
