༄༅། །ཐའི་ཝན་རྒྱལ་བསྟན་དར་རྒྱས་སྨོན་ལམ།

Prayer of Aspiration for the Buddhist Teachings to Flourish in Taiwan

ན་མོ་གུ་རུ་མཉྫུ་ཤྲཱི་ཡེ། །

Namo guru mañjuśrrīye!

ཀ་དག་སྤྲོས་བྲལ་ཆོས་སྐུའི་ཀློང་ཡངས་ལས། །

kadak trödral chökü long yang lé

From the vast dharmakāya expanse of primordial purity free from complexity,

ལྷུན་གྲུབ་གཟུགས་སྐུ་མཚན་དཔེའི་དཔལ་འབར་བ། །

lhündrub zukku tsenpé pal barwa

The spontaneously present rūpakāya blazes with the splendour of the signs and marks,

ཐུགས་བརྩེའི་སྤྲིན་ལས་ཆོས་ཆར་འབེབས་མཁས་པ། །

tuk tsé trin lé chö char beb khepa

And skilfully brings down a shower of Dharma from the clouds of loving kindness—

ཐུབ་དབང་ལྷ་མིའི་སྟོན་མཆོག་སྙིང་དབུས་རོལ། །

tubwang lhami tön chok nying ü rol

Lord of sages, supreme teacher of gods and humans, playfully appear in the centre of my heart.

 

མཐིང་འཛིན་མ་གུ་ར་ཡི་སྲུང་གུར་དབུས། །

ting dzin ma gu ra yi sung gur ü

In the centre of the protective sphere of the deep blue ocean,

མཛེས་སྡུག་ཕུན་སུམ་ཚོགས་པའི་དོ་ར་རུ། །

dzé duk pünsum tsokpé do ra ru

Is this land that is like an arena of perfect abundance and beauty—

ལུགས་གཉིས་སྡེ་བཞི་དཔལ་ལ་ལོངས་སྤྱོད་པས། །

luk nyi dé zhi pal la longchö pé

Here, through the splendour of the two systems¹ and four aspects of wellbeing,²

གླིང་འདིར་རྒྱལ་བསྟན་སྙིང་པོ་དར་རྒྱས་ཤོག །

ling dir gyalten nyingpo dargyé shok

May the essence of the Buddha's teachings flourish in this land!

 

བློ་སྣ་ཆོས་ལ་བསྒྱུར་བའི་མན་ངག་གནད། །

lona chö la gyurwé mengak né

Through guarding the key instructions for turning the mind toward the Dharma—

དལ་འབྱོར་རྙེད་དཀའ་ཚེ་ལ་རྟག་པ་མེད།

daljor nyé ka tsé la takpa mé

The rarity of the freedoms and opportunities and the impermanence of life,

འཁོར་བ་སྡུག་བསྔལ་ལས་འབྲས་རབ་སྲུང་ནས། །

khorwa dukngal lé dré rab sung né

As well as the sufferings of cyclic existence and the effects of actions,

གླིང་འདིར་རྒྱལ་བསྟན་སྙིང་པོ་དར་རྒྱས་ཤོག །

ling dir gyalten nyingpo dargyé shok

May the essence of the Buddha's teachings flourish in this land!

 

ཡང་དག་ཆོས་ལམ་འགྲོ་བའི་རིམ་པ་ནི། །

yangdak chö lam drowé rimpa ni

Through the stages of practice that bring progress in genuine Dharma—

དཀོན་མཆོག་སྐྱབས་འགྲོ་བྱམས་དང་སྙིང་རྗེ་དང་། །

könchok kyamdro jam dang nyingjé dang

Taking refuge in the Three Jewels, training in love and compassion,

ཚོགས་གཉིས་བསག་དང་སྒྲིབ་གཉིས་སྦྱང་བ་ཡིས། །

tsok nyi sak dang drib nyi jangwa yi

Gathering the two accumulations and purifying the two obscurations,

གླིང་འདིར་རྒྱལ་བསྟན་སྙིང་པོ་དར་རྒྱས་ཤོག །

ling dir gyalten nyingpo dargyé shok

May the essence of the Buddha's teachings flourish in this land!

 

འགལ་རྐྱེན་ཀུན་སེལ་བླ་མའི་རྣལ་འབྱོར་དང་། །

galkyen kün sel lamé naljor dang

Through the practice of guru yoga which dispels all adversity,

མྱུར་ལམ་འཕོ་བའི་མན་ངག་ཉམས་ལེན་སོགས། །

nyurlam powé mengak nyamlen sok

Instructions on the swift path of transference (phowa) and so on,

འཆི་ཚེ་ཐར་ལམ་ཐོབ་པའི་གདེང་ལྡན་པས། །

chi tsé tarlam tobpé deng denpé

And with confidence in finding a path to liberation at the time of death,

གླིང་འདིར་རྒྱལ་བསྟན་སྙིང་པོ་དར་རྒྱས་ཤོག །

ling dir gyalten nyingpo dargyé shok

May the essence of the Buddha's teachings flourish in this land!

 

མ་དག་འཁྲུལ་སྣང་དག་པར་དབང་གྱུར་བའི། །

ma dak trulnang dakpar wang gyurwé

Through transforming impure, deluded perception into perception that is pure,

རིག་སྟོང་རང་མདངས་ལྷ་སྔགས་ཆོས་སྐུའི་ངང་། །

riktong rang dang lha ngak chökü ngang

While experiencing deity, mantra and dharmakāya as the self-radiance of awareness and emptiness,

རྩ་ཐིག་རླུང་གསུམ་བདེ་སྟོང་གྲོགས་ཤར་བས། །

tsa tik lung sum detong drok sharwé

And the channels, wind-energies and essences as supports for bliss and emptiness,

གླིང་འདིར་རྒྱལ་བསྟན་སྙིང་པོ་དར་རྒྱས་ཤོག །

ling dir gyalten nyingpo dargyé shok

May the essence of the Buddha's teachings flourish in this land!

 

རིག་སྟོང་ཀ་དག་རང་ངོ་ཤེས་པ་དང་། །

riktong kadak rang ngo shepa dang

Through recognising one’s own nature of primordially pure awareness and emptiness,

དག་དང་མ་དག་རྩལ་སྣང་ཐག་ཆོད་ནས། །

dak dang ma dak tsalnang takchö né

And with decisive certainty about its creative manifestations, pure and impure,

རང་གྲོལ་རེ་དོགས་བྲལ་བའི་གདེང་ཐོབ་པས། །

rangdrol redok dralwé deng tobpé

So that one gains the confidence of self-liberation beyond hope and fear,

གླིང་འདིར་རྒྱལ་བསྟན་སྙིང་པོ་དར་རྒྱས་ཤོག །

ling dir gyalten nyingpo dargyé shok

May the essence of the Buddha's teachings flourish in this land!

 

ཤེས་རབ་རང་འབྱུང་སྒྲོན་མེའི་རང་མདངས་ལས།

sherab rang jung drönmé rang dang lé

Without getting caught in clinging to space, light-spheres and awareness,

དབྱིངས་ཐིག་རིག་གསུམ་འཛིན་པས་མ་བཅིང་པར། །

ying tik rik sum dzinpé maching par

Which arise as the natural radiance of the lamp of self-arisen wisdom—

ཡང་གསང་བླ་མེད་ཉམས་སུ་ལེན་མཁས་པས། །

yangsang lamé nyam su len khepé

Through skilful practice of these most secret, unsurpassable teachings—

གླིང་འདིར་རྒྱལ་བསྟན་སྙིང་པོ་དར་རྒྱས་ཤོག །

ling dir gyalten nyingpo dargyé shok

May the essence of the Buddha's teachings flourish in this land!

 

ཙི་ནའི་ཡུལ་འཁྲུངས་ཐང་སིན་བླ་མ་ཡིས། །

tsi né yul trung tang sin lama yi

Just as the master Xuanzang, who took birth in China,

རླབས་ཆེན་ཐུགས་བསྐྱེད་དམ་བཅས་འཕགས་ཡུལ་སྐྱོད། །

lab chen tukkyé damché pakyul kyö

Travelled, through his magnificent aspirations, to the noble land of India,

དཀའ་བ་སྤྱོད་ནས་མཁས་པ་ཕུལ་ཕྱིན་བཞིན། །

kawa chö né khepa pul chin zhin

Where, through enduring hardships, he reached the pinnacle of scholarship,

གླིང་འདིར་རྒྱལ་བསྟན་སྙིང་པོ་དར་རྒྱས་ཤོག །

ling dir gyalten nyingpo dargyé shok

May the essence of the Buddha's teachings flourish in this land!

 

གནས་བརྟན་ཆེན་པོ་འཕགས་པ་འོད་སྲུང་སོགས། །

neten chenpo pakpa ösung sok

Just as the great elder noble Kaśyapa and the rest,

གཏད་རབས་བཞིན་དུ་བསྟན་པ་འཛིན་མཁས་པའི། །

té rab zhindu tenpa dzin khepé

In their line of succession, skilfully upheld the teachings,

བསླབ་གསུམ་རྒྱན་འཆང་ངུར་སྨིག་འཛིན་པ་ཡིས། །

lab sum gyen chang ngur mik dzinpa yi

Now with saffron-robed monks adorned with threefold training—

གླིང་འདིར་རྒྱལ་བསྟན་སྙིང་པོ་དར་རྒྱས་ཤོག །

ling dir gyalten nyingpo dargyé shok

May the essence of the Buddha's teachings flourish in this land!

 

གངས་ལྗོངས་ཐུབ་པའི་ལུང་དུ་བསྟན་པ་བཞིན། །

gangjong tubpé lung du tenpa zhin

Just as in the Land of Snows, as the Buddha himself foretold,

སྤྱན་རས་གཟིགས་དབང་ཐུགས་བསྐྱེད་དམ་བཅའི་མཐུས། །

chenrezik wang tukkyé damché tü

Through the force of Avalokiteśvara’s vows and aspirations,

ཆོས་རྒྱལ་ཟུང་གིས་ནམ་ལང་ཉི་ཤར་ལྟར། །

chögyal zung gi nam lang nyishar tar

A pair of dharma kings appeared to herald a new dawn,

གླིང་འདིར་རྒྱལ་བསྟན་སྙིང་པོ་དར་རྒྱས་ཤོག །

ling dir gyalten nyingpo dargyé shok

May the essence of the Buddha's teachings flourish in this land!

 

ཇོ་བོ་གསེར་གླིང་པ་ཡི་ཐུགས་ཀྱི་སྲས། །

jowo serlingpa yi tuk kyi sé

Just as Atiśa, heart-son of the precious lord of Suvarnadvīpa

འཕགས་ཡུལ་མཁས་གྲུབ་ཕུལ་ཕྱིན་ཨ་ཏི་ཤས། །

pakyul khedrub pul chin ati shé

And pre-eminent among the learned and accomplished of the noble land,

བཀའ་གདམས་བསྟན་པ་སྒྲོན་མེ་སྦར་བ་བཞིན། །

kadam tenpa drönmé barwa zhin

Set the torch of the Kadampa teachings ablaze—

གླིང་འདིར་རྒྱལ་བསྟན་སྙིང་པོ་དར་རྒྱས་ཤོག །

ling dir gyalten nyingpo dargyé shok

May the essence of the Buddha's teachings flourish in this land!

 

ལྷོ་བྲག་མར་པའི་བཀའ་བཞིན་བསྒྲུབ་མཛད་པས། །

lho drak marpé ka zhin drub dzepé

By practising according to the instructions of Marpa of Lhodrak,

བསྒྲུབ་བརྒྱུད་བསྟན་པའི་གསེར་གྱི་རྒྱལ་མཚན་འཛིན། །

drub gyü tenpé ser gyi gyaltsen dzin

Holding aloft the golden victory banner of the practice lineage,

མི་ལ་རས་པ་ཚེ་འདིར་གྲོལ་བ་བཞིན། །

mi la repa tsé dir drolwa zhin

Just like Milarepa, who attained liberation in a single lifetime,

གླིང་འདིར་རྒྱལ་བསྟན་སྙེང་པོ་དར་རྒྱས་ཤོག །

ling dir gyalten nyengpo dargyé shok

May the essence of the Buddha's teachings flourish in this land!

 

ས་སྐྱ་ཞེས་བྱ་ས་སྟེང་གྲགས་པས་ཁྱབ། །

sakya zheja sateng drakpé khyab

Just as the fame of the Sakya tradition spread throughout the world,

གངས་ལྗོངས་ལུགས་གཉིས་སླར་ཡང་དར་རྒྱས་མཛད། །

gangjong luk nyi lar yang dargyé dzé

And caused the two traditions to flourish once again in the Land of Snows,

མཁས་པའི་དབང་པོ་ཕྱོགས་ཀུན་ཁྱབ་པ་བཞིན། །

khepé wangpo chok kün khyabpa zhin

So that supremely learned scholars congregated in every direction—

གླིང་འདིར་རྒྱལ་བསྟན་སྙིང་པོ་དར་རྒྱས་ཤོག །

ling dir gyalten nyingpo dargyé shok

May the essence of the Buddha's teachings flourish in this land!

 

འཁོར་ལོ་ཐ་མ་བླ་མེད་དུས་འཁོར་གྱི། །

khorlo tama lamé dükhor gyi

Just as the glorious Jonangpas skilfully propagated the teachings

རྒྱལ་བསྟན་སྤེལ་མཁས་དཔལ་ལྡན་ཇོ་ནང་པས། །

gyalten pel khé palden jo nangpé

Of Kālacakra and the unsurpassed final turning of the Dharma-wheel

ངེས་དོན་སྙིང་པོ་བསྟན་པ་དར་བ་བཞིན། །

ngedön nyingpo tenpa darwa zhin

And caused teachings on the ‘essence of definitive meaning’ to spread,

གླིང་འདིར་རྒྱལ་བསྟན་སྙིང་པོ་དར་རྒྱས་ཤོག །

ling dir gyalten nyingpo dargyé shok

May the essence of the Buddha's teachings flourish in this land!

 

རྒྱལ་དབང་པདྨའི་ལུང་འཛིན་བློ་བཟང་གྲགས། །

gyalwang pemé lung dzin lobzang drak

Just as Lobzang Drakpa, who was prophesied by the victorious lord Padma,

མཁས་གྲུབ་མང་བརྟེན་བཟང་གསུམ་དཔལ་གྱིས་ཕྱུག །

khedrub mang ten zang sum pal gyi chuk

Followed many learned adepts and won the splendour of threefold excellence,

མདོ་སྔགས་ཟུང་འབྲེལ་ཐུབ་བསྟན་འཛིན་མཁས་བཞིན། །

do ngak zungdrel tubten dzin khé zhin

To become skilled in upholding Buddha’s teaching that unites sūtra and mantra,

གླིང་འདིར་རྒྱལ་བསྟེན་སྙིང་པོ་དར་རྒྱས་ཤོག །

ling dir gyal ten nyingpo dargyé shok

May the essence of the Buddha's teachings flourish in this land!

 

རིས་མེད་རྒྱལ་བསྟན་པདྨོའི་ཚལ་བཞད་ནས། །

rimé gyalten pemö tsal zhé né

Through the blossoming of the lotus garden of non-sectarian Buddhist teachings,

ཕྱི་ཡི་དགྲ་བགེགས་འབྱུང་བཞིའི་གནོད་ཞི་དང་། །

chi yi dragek jung zhi nö zhi dang

Pacifying threats from external enemies and hindrances as well as the four elements,

ནང་གི་ཆགས་སྡང་རྨོངས་པའི་དུག་སེལ་ནས། །

nang gi chakdang mongpé duk sel né

Dispelling the poison of internal attachment, aversion and ignorance,

གསང་བ་བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་ཀྱིས་རྒྱུད་སྨིན་ཏེ། །

sangwa changchub sem kyi gyü min té

And secretly maturing the mindstream through bodhicitta—the spirit of awakening,

གླིང་འདིར་རྒྱལ་བསྟན་སྙིང་པོ་དར་རྒྱས་ཤོག །

ling dir gyalten nyingpo dargyé shok

May the essence of the Buddha's teachings flourish in this land!

 

མཆོག་གསུམ་རྩ་གསུམ་སྲུང་མའི་བྱིན་རླབས་དང་། །

chok sum tsa sum sungmé jinlab dang

Through the blessings of the Three Jewels, Three Roots and guardian deities,

བདག་གི་ལྷག་བསམ་དག་པའི་བདེན་སྟོབས་ཀྱིས། །

dak gi lhaksam dakpé den tob kyi

And through the power of the truth of my own pure altruistic intention,

མི་མཐུན་འགལ་རྐྱེན་རྒུད་པ་ཀུན་ཞི་ནས། །

mitün galkyen güpa kün zhi né

May all disharmony, adversity and signs of deterioration be pacified,

ཚེ་བསོད་དཔལ་ཡོན་རྒྱས་པའི་བཀྲ་ཤིས་ཤོག །

tsesö palyön gyepé tashi shok

And may all be auspicious so that lifespan, merit, glory and prosperity increase!

 

ཅེས་པ་འདི་རང་གི་ཆོས་གྲོགས་དམ་པ་ཤཱཀྱའི་དགེ་སྦྱོང་སྐད་གསུམ་སྨྲ་བ་བསྟན་འཛིན་འོད་རྒྱལ་ནས་ཐེ་སྒོར་སྟོང་ཕྲག་རྒྱལ་སྲིད་ཀྱི་གྲངས་ལྡན་དང་། བཀྲ་ཤིས་ལྷ་རེག་བཅས་ཕུལ་ནས་ཐེ་ཝན་འདིར་རིས་མེད་ཀྱི་ཐུབ་བསྟན་དར་རྒྱས་དང་ལེགས་པའི་མཐུན་རྐྱེན་འགྲུབ་པ་དང་མི་མཐུན་པའི་འགལ་རྐྱེན་ཞི་བའི་ཆེད་སྨོན་ཚིག་ཉུང་ངུ་ཞིག་འབྲི་རོགས་ཞེས་སྐུལ་ངོ་མ་ལྡོག་ཙམ་དུ་སྔ་འགྱུར་རྙིང་མའི་དབུ་འཛིན་གྱི་མིང་ཙམ་འཛིན་པ་ཀཿཐོག་དགེ་སྤྲུལ་འགྱུར་མེད་བསྟན་པ་རྒྱལ་མཚན་ནས་བོད་རབ་གནས་ས་ཁྱི་ཟླ་ ༧ ཚེས ༨ ལ་བྲིས་པ་དགེ་ལེགས་སུ་འཕེལ། སརྦ་མངྒ་ལཾ། །

My noble dharma friend, a trilingual śramaṇa follower of Śākyamuni named Tendzin Ögyel offered as many thousand Taiwanese dollars as there are emblems of royalty [i.e., seven], together with an auspicious silken scarf, and requested that I compose some verses of aspiration for the creation of favourable conditions and the pacification of unfavourable circumstances and obstacles, so that the non-sectarian teachings of the Buddha might flourish and spread here in Taiwan. Thus, merely to avoid refusing this request, I, the one who merely holds the name of the head of the Ngagyur Nyingma tradition, Katok Getrul Gyurme Tenpa Gyaltsen, wrote this on the eighth day of the seventh month of the Earth Dog year (18 August 2018). May virtue and excellence abound! Sarva maṅgalam.
