Oṃ svasti siddhi bhavatu!
ཀུན་ཁྱབ་དང་པོའི་སངས་རྒྱས་ཀུན་ཏུ་བཟང༌། །
künkhyab dangpö sangye kuntuzang
Omnipresent primordial Buddha Samantabhadra,
སྟོན་པ་བཅུ་གཉིས་བསྐལ་བཟང་སངས་རྒྱས་སྟོང༌། །
tönpa chunyi kalzang sangye tong
‘Twelve Dzogchen Teachers’ and thousand buddhas of this Fortunate Age—
མཁའ་ཁྱབ་དགོངས་བརྒྱུད་དག་མཉམ་ཆེན་པོ་ཡིས། །
khakhyab gonggyü dak nyam chenpo yi
Through the great purity and equalness of the all-pervasive wisdom mind transmission,
རྟག་བརྟན་འཕོ་མེད་རྡོ་རྗེའི་བྱིན་ཕོབ་ལ། །
takten pomé dorje jin pob la
Shower down your blessings of eternal stability, and indestructible non-transference,
སྤྲུལ་པའི་སྐུ་མཆོག་བསོད་ནམས་རྒྱལ་མཚན་གྱི། །

རིག་མཆོག་གསུམ་དང་རིགས་ཅན་དྲ་མ་ལྔ། །
rik chok sum dang rikchen drama nga
The bodhisattvas of the three supreme families, the five great sages,
རྒྱལ་པོ་ཛྭ་གསུམ་ཀུ་ཀུ་བདེ་བ་མོ། །
gyalpo dza sum kuku dewamo
The three kings called Ja, then Kukkurāja and Gomadevī,
བརྡ་བརྒྱུད་ལྷ་ཀླུ་མི་ཡི་ཚོམ་བུ་ལྟར། །
dagyü lha lu mi yi tsombu tar
Gods, nāgas and humans of the sign transmission, gathered like a maṇḍala;
གཉིས་མེད་མཉམ་པ་ཆེན་པོའི་ཀློང་ཡངས་ནས། །
nyimé nyampa chenpö longyang né
Out of your spacious expanse of non-dual, great equality,
སྤྲུལ་པའི་སྐུ་མཆོག་བསོད་ནམས་རྒྱལ་མཚན་གྱི། །

Garab Dorjé, Mañjuśrīmitra, Śrī Siṃha and Jñānasūtra,
མཁས་པ་ཉེར་གཅིག་སེམས་ཀློང་མན་ངག་གི །
khepa nyerchik sem long mengak gi
The twenty-one learned masters, and all those empowered with the great aural lineage of mind, space and pith instruction classes
སྙན་བརྒྱུད་ཐོས་གྲོལ་ཆེན་པོའི་དབང་ཐོབ་པ། །
nyengyü tödrol chenpö wangtobpa
That liberates upon hearing,
རིག་འཛིན་བླ་མའི་ཚོགས་ཀྱི་བྱིན་ནུས་ཀྱིས། །
rigdzin lamé tsok kyi jin nü kyi
Vidyādhara masters, through your blessings and power,
སྤྲུལ་པའི་སྐུ་མཆོག་བསོད་ནམས་རྒྱལ་མཚན་གྱི། །

འཆི་མེད་པདྨ་ཀཱ་ར་རྗེ་འབངས་གྲོགས། །
chimé pema kara jebang drok
Immortal Padmākara, with your disciples—the king, the subject and the consort,
མཆོག་གཉིས་རྒྱལ་པོ་ལྔ་དང་གླིང་ཉེར་ལྔ། །
chok nyi gyalpo nga dang ling nyernga
The two supreme ones, the five sovereigns and the twenty-five called ‘Lingpa’,
ནུས་ལྡན་ཉེར་གཅིག་གཏེར་ཆེན་བརྒྱ་རྩ་དང༌། །
nüden nyerchik terchen gya tsa dang
The twenty-one endowed with special powers, the hundred major
གཏེར་ཕྲན་སྟོང་གི་གསང་མཛོད་ལ་དབང་བའི། །
tertren tong gi sangdzö la wangwé
And the thousand minor tertöns—through your mastery of the secret treasury,
སྤྲུལ་པའི་སྐུ་མཆོག་བསོད་ནམས་རྒྱལ་མཚན་གྱི། །

Amitayus, Tara ‘the Wish-fulfilling Wheel’,
རྣམ་པར་རྒྱལ་མ་འཆི་མེད་བི་མ་ལ། །
nampar gyalma chimé bimala
Uṣṇīṣavijaya and the immortal Vimalamitra,
ཐང་རྒྱལ་མནྡ་རཱ་བ་མཚོ་རྒྱལ་སོགས། །
tanggyal mandarava tsogyal sok
Thangtong Gyalpo, Mandāravā, Yeshe Tsogyal and the rest,
ཚེ་ལྷ་རབ་འབྱམས་རྒྱ་མཚོའི་མཐུ་བྱིན་གྱིས། །
tselha rabjam gyatsö tu jin gyi
Through the power and blessings of infinite long-life deities,
སྤྲུལ་པའི་སྐུ་མཆོག་བསོད་ནམས་རྒྱལ་མཚན་གྱི། །
trulpé ku chok sönam gyaltsen gyi

སྤྲུལ་པའི་གཏེར་ཆེན་རྒྱ་མཚོའི་འཁོར་ལོའི་བསྒྱུར། །
trulpé terchen gyatsö khorlö gyur
Universal ruler over an ocean of great, incarnate tertöns,
ཟབ་གཏེར་ནམ་མཁའ་མཛོད་ལ་དབང་བསྒྱུར་བ། །
zabter namkha dzö la wang gyurwa
Empowered with the space-like treasury of profound termas,
གཏེར་ཆེན་ལས་རབ་གླིང་པའི་ཐུགས་རྗེའི་གཟུགས། །
terchen lerab lingpé tukjé zuk
Was the great terma revealer Lerab Lingpa, and you are his compassionate rebirth,
སྤྲུལ་པའི་སྐུ་མཆོག་བསོད་ནམས་རྒྱལ་མཚན་གྱི། །
trulpé ku chok sönam gyaltsen gyi
Supreme emanation, Sogyal Rinpoche, may your life

འཇམ་དཔལ་བདུད་དགྲའི་དབང་པོ་མི་ཡི་གར། །
jampal dü dré wangpo mi yi gar
Lord over Yama’s hordes, Mañjuśrī in human form,
པདྨ་ཡེ་ཤེས་རྡོ་རྗེའི་གསང་གསུམ་གྱིས། །
pema yeshe dorje sang sum gyi
Was Pema Yeshe Dorje,2 who empowered you, a vidyādhara,
བྱིན་རླབས་དབང་བསྐུར་ཐོབ་པའི་རིག་པ་འཛིན། །
jinlab wangkur tobpé rigpa dzin
With the blessings of his secret body, speech and mind—
སྤྲུལ་པའི་སྐུ་མཆོག་བསོད་ནམས་རྒྱལ་མཚན་གྱི། །

པད་མས་ཟབ་གཏེར་སྐྱོངས་ལ་དབང་བསྐུར་ཞིང༌། །
pemé zabter kyong la wangkur shying
Empowered by Padmasambhava as keeper of the profound treasures,
སྙིགས་མའི་དུས་ཀྱི་རྒྱལ་བ་རྡོ་རྗེ་འཆང༌། །
nyikmé dü kyi gyalwa dorje chang
A buddha for this age of degeneration, was the Vajradhara
འཇིགས་བྲལ་ཡེ་ཤེས་རྡོ་རྗེའི་རྒྱལ་ཚབ་ཆེ། །
jikdral yeshe dorje gyaltsab ché
Jikdral Yeshe Dorjé.3 You who are his great Dharma regent,
སྤྲུལ་པའི་སྐུ་མཆོག་བསོད་ནམས་རྒྱལ་མཚན་གྱི། །
trulpé ku chok sönam gyaltsen gyi
Supreme emanation Sogyal Rinpoche, may your life

རྒྱལ་བ་ཀུན་གྱི་གསང་བའི་མཛོད་འཛིན་ཞིང༌། །
gyalwa kün gyi sangwé dzödzin shying
Holder of all the victorious buddhas’ secret treasury,
མཁས་གྲུབ་རིག་འཛིན་བྱེ་བའི་གཙུག་གི་རྒྱན། །
khedrub rigdzin jewé tsuk gi gyen
Crowning ornament of many million learned and accomplished vidyādharas,
ཀུན་མཁྱེན་རབ་གསལ་ཟླ་བའི་ཐུགས་སྲས་གཙོ། །
künkhyen rabsal dawé tuksé tso
Was the all-knowing Rabsal Dawa,4 and you are the foremost of his heart-sons—
སྤྲུལ་པའི་སྐུ་མཆོག་བསོད་ནམས་རྒྱལ་མཚན་གྱི། །
trulpé ku chok sönam gyaltsen gyi
Supreme emanation Sogyal Rinpoche, may your life
སྐུ་ཚེ་རྟག་བརྟན་བཞེད་དོན་ལྷུན་འགྲུབ་ཤོག །

སྡེ་གསུམ་ཀློང་དགུའི་ཤིང་རྟ་ཀློང་ཆེན་དང༌། །
dé sum long gü shingta longchen dang
The pioneer of the three classes and the nine sections of Longdé was Longchen Rabjam,
རྣམ་དབྱེར་མ་འཆིས་འཇམ་དབྱངས་རྡོ་རྗེ་ཡིས། །
namyer machi jamyang dorje yi
Inseparable from whom was Jamyang Dorje,5
དགོངས་པའི་གསང་མཛོད་འཛིན་པར་བཀས་གནང་བ། །
gongpé sangdzö dzinpar ké nangwa
Who appointed you as a holder of his wisdom mind’s secret treasure—
སྤྲུལ་པའི་སྐུ་མཆོག་བསོད་ནམས་རྒྱལ་མཚན་གྱི། །
trulpé ku chok sönam gyaltsen gyi
Supreme emanation Sogyal Rinpoche, may your life
སྐུ་ཚེ་རྟག་བརྟན་བཞེད་དོན་ལྷུན་འགྲུབ་ཤོག །
kutsé takten shyedön lhündrub shok

ཐོས་པས་རྒྱུད་གྲོལ་དགོངས་པས་དེ་ཉིད་རྟོགས། །
töpé gyü drol gongpé denyi tok
Through study you were liberated, and realized reality as-it-is,
གཞན་དོན་བརྩེ་བ་ཆེན་པོའི་ལྷུར་ལེན་ཅིང༌། །
shyendön tsewa chenpö lhurlen ching
Now with vast love and care you work for the benefit of others,
མཁྱེན་བརྩེ་ནུས་གསུམ་ལྡན་པའི་བླ་མ་རྗེ། །
khyen tsé nü sum denpé lama jé
A precious lama endowed with wisdom, love and spiritual power
སྤྲུལ་པའི་སྐུ་མཆོག་བསོད་ནམས་རྒྱལ་མཚན་གྱི། །
trulpé ku chok sönam gyaltsen gyi
Supreme emanation Sogyal Rinpoche, may your life
སྐུ་ཚེ་རྟག་བརྟན་བཞེད་དོན་ལྷུན་འགྲུབ་ཤོག །
kutsé takten shyedön lhündrub shok

ནུབ་ཕྱོགས་མུན་པའི་སྨག་ཏུ་རྒྱལ་བསྟན་གྱི། །
nubchok münpé mak tu gyalten gyi
In the dense darkness of the lands in the west,
སྣང་བའི་སྒོ་ཆེན་ཐོག་མར་ཕྱེ་བ་དང༌། །
nangwé gochen tokmar chewa dang
You were among the first to shed the light of Buddha’s teachings,
དམ་པའི་ཆོས་ཀྱི་གྲུ་ཆར་འབེབས་མཁས་པ། །
dampé chö kyi druchar beb khepa
And skilfully to make a rain of sacred Dharma fall—
སྤྲུལ་པའི་སྐུ་མཆོག་བསོད་ནམས་རྒྱལ་མཚན་གྱི། །
trulpé ku chok sönam gyaltsen gyi
Supreme emanation Sogyal Rinpoche, may your life
སྐུ་ཚེ་རྟག་བརྟན་བཞེད་དོན་ལྷུན་འགྲུབ་ཤོག །
kutsé takten shyedön lhündrub shok

འཕོ་བཅས་རྩ་ཐིག་རླུང་གསུམ་གཉུག་མའི་ཁམས། །
poché tsa tik lung sum nyukmé kham
With the transferring, subtle body of channels, inner air and tiklés
འཕོ་མེད་བདེ་བ་ཆེན་པོར་རྒྱས་བཏབ་ནས། །
pomé dewa chenpor gyé tab né
Sealed within the great bliss of non-transference,
གོས་དཀར་རལ་པའི་ཅོད་པན་འཆང་བཞིན་དུ། །
gö kar ralpé chöpen chang shyindu
Garbed in white robes, and with the long, diademed hair of a yogi,
ཞབས་པད་སེང་གེའི་ཁྲི་ལ་གཡོ་མེད་གསོལ། །
shyabpé sengé tri la yomé sol
May you place your lotus-feet, unmoving, on the lion throne!
ཚངས་དབྱངས་འགག་པ་མེད་པ་རྡོ་རྗེའི་གསུང༌། །
tsang yang gakpa mepa dorje sung
The unceasing melody of Brahmā is your vajra speech,
འགྲོ་བློའི་བསམ་པ་དང་མཐུན་ཟབ་གསང་གི།
dro lö sampa dang tün zabsang gi
As you turn continuously the Dharma-wheel of
ཆོས་འཁོར་རྒྱུན་མི་ཆད་པ་བསྐོར་བཞིན་དུ། །
chökhor gyün michepa kor shyindu
Profound and secret teachings, attuned to the mentality of beings,
བསྐལ་པ་རྒྱ་མཚོའི་བར་དུ་བརྟན་གྱུར་ཅིག །
kalpa gyatsö bardu ten gyur chik
May it remain secure for countless aeons to come!
སྤྲོས་བྲལ་འགྱུར་མེད་ནམ་མཁའ་ལྟ་བུའི་ཐུགས། །
trödral gyurmé namkha tabü tuk
Free from all concept, unchanging and sky-like is your wisdom mind,
སྐྱེ་འཆི་མཚན་མས་སྒྲིབ་པ་མེད་བཞིན་དུ། །
kyechi tsenmé dribpamé shyindu
Unobscured by signs of birth and death,
ཉི་ཟླའི་སྣང་བ་ནུབ་མེད་དེ་སྲིད་བར། །
nyidé nangwa nubmé desi bar
May it remain steadfast and indestructible,
འགྱུར་མེད་རྡོ་རྗེའི་ཁམས་སུ་བརྟན་བཞུགས་གསོལ། །
gyurmé dorje kham su tenshyuk sol
For as long as the light of sun and moon continue to shine!
དེ་དག་ལ་འཁུ་མ་རུང་འབྱུང་པོའི་ཚོགས། །
dedak la khu ma rung jungpö tsok
May all the hostile, malevolent jungpo demons,
དཔལ་ཆེན་རྡོ་རྗེ་གཞོན་ནུའི་མཐུ་སྟོབས་ཀྱིས། །
palchen dorje shyönnü tutob kyi
Succumb to glorious Vajrakumāra’s might and power
མིང་གི་ལྷག་མར་བྱས་དང་ཆབས་ཅིག་ཏུ། །
ming gi lhakmar jé dang chabchik tu
So that not even their names remain. And at the very same time,
ཚེ་དཔག་མེད་པས་མངོན་པར་དབང་བསྐུར་ཞིང༌། །
tsepakmé pé ngönpar wangkur shying
May you be fully empowered with the Boundless Life of Amitāyus,
པདྨ་སཾ་བྷས་ཤིས་པའི་མེ་ཏོག་འཐོར། །
pema sambhé shipé metok tor
May the Lotus-Born scatter flowers of auspiciousness,
དབྱིངས་ཀྱི་རྒྱལ་མོ་ཁྲག་མིག་རག་གདོང་མས། །
ying kyi gyalmo trakmik rakdong mé
And may the Queen of Space, with blood-red eye and copper face,
བསྲུང་སྐྱོབས་བྱིན་གྱིས་བརློབ་ལ་མེལ་ཚེ་མཛོད། །
sung kyob jingyi lob la meltsé dzö
Watch over you and grant you the blessings of her protection!
ཅེས་པའང་རབ་བྱུང་༡༧པའི་ཆུ་ལུག་ལོར་ཕ་རན་སི་དཔལ་ལས་རབ་གླིང་གི་ཆོས་སྒར་དུ་བོད་ཡུལ་ས་འོག་ཀུན་གྱི་གཏེར་གཅིག་ཐུགས་སྒྲུབ་བར་ཆད་ཀུན་སེལ་གྱི་ནོར་སྒྲུབ་རིན་ཆེན་བུམ་བཟང་གི་སྒོ་ནས་ཕྱྭ་གཡང་ལོངས་སྤྱོད་སྤེལ་བའི་ཚོམ་བུ་ཚོགས་སྒྲུབ་ཆེན་མོ་བགྱིས་པའི་དགའ་སྟོན་རྟེན་འབྲེལ་གྱི་གནང་སྦྱིན་སྩལ་བའི་མཛད་སྒོའི་རྗེས་ཐོག་དེ་མ་ཐག་ཏུ་རིག་འཛིན་ཆེན་པོ་རང་ཉིད་ཀྱི་རྡོ་རྗེའི་གཟུངས་མར་བཀས་གནང་བའི་ཌ་ཀི་མ་གསུམ་ནས་ལྷ་རྫས་སྲིད་དུ་རིང་བ་དང་རིན་ཆེན་གཉིས་པ་ལས་གྲུབ་པའི་བཀྲ་ཤིས་རྟགས་ཀྱི་རེ་ཁ་ཚོན་གང་བ་ཞིག་སྩལ་ཏེ་ཁྱོད་ནས་བསོད་རྒྱལ་རིན་པོ་ཆེར་ཞབས་བརྟན་ཞིག་བརྩམ་ན་དགེ་མཚན་ཆེ་ཚུལ་ཕེབས་པས་སྤྲོ་བ་རབ་ཏུ་བརྟས་ཏེ་རྡོ་རྗེ་འཆང་པདྨ་ཡེ་ཤེས་རྡོ་རྗེ་དང༌། རྒྱལ་དབང་ཀརྨ་པ་སོགས་དམ་པ་དུ་མས་སྟག་ཤམ་བསམ་གཏན་གླིང་པའི་ཕྲིན་ལས་ཀྱི་སྤྲུལ་པ་རྒྱལ་ཆེན་སྤྲུལ་སྐུ་ལུང་གི་ཟིན་ཀྱང༌། དོན་དུ་འདོད་ཡོན་ལས་བསམ་དུ་མེད་པའི་གང་ཟག་དཔལ་ས་སྐྱ་པའི་བདག་ཆེན་ཕུན་ཚོགས་ཕོ་བྲང་ནས་ཨོ་རྒྱན་བསོད་ནམས་སྟོབས་རྒྱལ་ཞེས་མིང་སྩལ་བ་ནས་བཟུང་རྒྱལ་ཁམས་ཀུན་ནས་ཨོ་རྒྱན་སྟོབས་རྒྱལ་ཞེས་འབོད་པའི་ཐ་ཤལ་བ་དེས་གང་བསམ་ཚིག་གི་ཕྲེང་བ་དཀར་ཤོག་གི་ངོས་སུ་སྣང་བར་བྱས་པ་དོན་དང་ལྡན་པར་གྱུར་ཅིག་སརྦ་མངྒ་ལཾ།། །།
In the Water Sheep year of the seventeenth calendrical cycle (2003), in the glorious Dharma encampment of Lerab Ling in France, as soon as we had finished a ceremony for increasing wealth and prosperity called ‘The Excellent Vase of Jewels’ (a wealth practice from the Thukdrup Barche Kunsel cycle, which was unearthed in Tibet), three ḍākinīs offered me a long silk scarf and a small silver brooch bearing the auspicious symbols. Full of joy, they said it would be extremely auspicious if I were to compose a long-life prayer for Sogyal Rinpoche. Thus it was that this garland of words arising to my mind appeared on a sheet of white paper, written by one whom Vajradhara Pema Yeshe Dorje (Jamyang Khyentse Chökyi Lodrö), Gyalwang Karmapa and other sublime beings recognized as Gyalchen Tulku, the activity incarnation of Taksham Samten Lingpa, but who in reality is just an inferior person whose thoughts are not beyond sensual pleasure, and who, having been given the name Orgyen Sonam Tobgyal by Sakya Dakchen of the Puntsok Podrang, is known simply as Orgyen Tobgyal. May it be meaningful! Sarva mangalam!
