Chapter Two: The Prayer Requested by King Tri Songdetsen

དེ་ནས་རྒྱལ་པོ་ཁྲི་སྲོང་སྡེའུ་བཙན་གྱིས་ཞུས་པ༔

Then the king, Tri Songdetsen, made this request:

ཀྱེ་སློབ་དཔོན་ཆེན་པོ་ལགས༔ བདག་དང་མ་འོངས་པའི་དད་ཅན་རྣམས་ཀྱི་དོན་དུ༔ དུས་གསུམ་གྱི་བདེ་བར་གཤེགས་པ་ཐམས་ཅད་ཀྱིས་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབ་པ༔ ཚེ་འདིའི་བར་ཆད་སེལ་བ༔ ཕྱི་མ་ཕྱག་རྒྱ་ཆེན་པོ་མཆོག་གི་དངོས་གྲུབ་ཐོབ་པ༔ ནང་ནུབ་ཏུ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས་པའི་ཆོས་ཤིག་ཞུ་ཞེས་ཞུས་སོ༔

“O great master! For me and for those in the future who have devotion, I request you to grant us a prayer to recite in the morning and the evening, that will grant the blessings of all the sugatas of past, present and future; that will remove the obstacles for this life; and that in the next life will confer the supreme siddhi of mahāmudrā.”

གུ་རུའི་ཞལ་ནས༔  རྒྱལ་པོ་ཆེན་པོ་ལེགས་པར་གསོན་ཅིག་ཅེས་གསུངས་སོ༔

The Guru replied: “Great king! Listen well!”

ཨེ་མ་ཧོཿ སངས་རྒྱས་བསྟན་པ་རྨད་བྱུང་བསམ་ཡས་ལ༔

emaho, sangye tenpa mejung samyé la

Emaho: O wonder! In the teachings of the buddhas, extraordinary and beyond conception,

ཁྱད་པར་འཕགས་པའི་བསྟན་པ་རྣམ་གསུམ་བྱོན༔

khyepar pakpé tenpa nam sum jön

The especially sublime teaching will be revealed three times.

སངས་རྒྱས་ཤཱཀྱ་ཐུབ་པའི་ཞིང་ཁམས་འདིར༔

sangye shakya tubpé zhingkham dir

Now, here in the realm of the Buddha Śākyamuni

གསང་སྔགས་རྡོ་རྗེ་ཐེག་པའི་བསྟན་པ་བྱོན༔

sang ngak dorjé tekpé tenpa jön

This teaching of the Secret Mantrayāna has come:

བསྟན་པ་རིན་པོ་ཆེ་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

tenpa rinpoche la solwa deb

To this precious teaching, we pray!

ཨོ་རྒྱན་པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

orgyen pemajungné la solwa deb

To the Lotus-born Guru of Orgyen, we pray!

 

འོག་མིན་ལྷུན་གྱིས་གྲུབ་པའི་ཕོ་བྲང་དུ༔

womin lhün gyi drubpé podrang du

In the palace of Akaniṣṭha, spontaneously perfect,

དུས་གསུམ་བདེ་བར་གཤེགས་པའི་དགོངས་པ་ཡིས༔

dü sum dewar shekpé gongpa yi

The sugatas of the three times, in their wisdom, saw

མ་ཏྲཾ་རུ་ཏྲ་བཀའ་བསྒོ་ལོག་པ་ལས༔

matram rudra kago lokpa lé

How Matram Rudra betrayed their commands,

འགྲོ་དྲུག་སེམས་ཅན་སྡུག་བསྔལ་ཉམ་ཐག་གཟིགས༔

dro druk semchen dukngal nyamtak zik

Tormenting the beings of the six realms with suffering.

ཐུགས་རྗེ་ངོ་མཚར་ཅན་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

tukjé ngotsar chen la solwa deb

To those with wondrous compassion, we pray!

ཨོ་རྒྱན་པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

orgyen pemajungné la solwa deb

To the Lotus-born Guru of Orgyen, we pray!

 

ལྕང་ལོ་ཅན་གྱི་ཕོ་བྲང་དམ་པ་རུ༔

changlochen gyi podrang dampa ru

In the sacred palace of Alakāvatī

དེ་བཞིན་གཤེགས་པ་ཐམས་ཅད་བཀའ་བགྲོས་མཛད༔

dezhin shekpa tamché kadrö dzé

The tathāgatas all consulted and determined,

ཞི་རྒྱས་དབང་དྲག་ཕྲིན་ལས་རྣམ་བཞི་ཡིས༔

zhi gyé wang drak trinlé nam zhi yi

Through the four enlightened activities—pacifying, increasing, magnetizing and subjugating,

ལོག་པ་བདུད་ཀྱི་བསྟན་པ་འདུལ་བར་མཛད༔

lokpa dü kyi tenpa dulwar dzé

To put an end to the teachings of this perverse and evil demon.

དུས་གསུམ་བདེ་གཤེགས་རྣམས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

dü sum deshek nam la solwa deb

To the sugatas of past, present and future, we pray!

ཨོ་རྒྱན་པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

orgyen pemajungné la solwa deb

To the Lotus-born Guru of Orgyen, we pray!

 

རི་བོ་མ་ལ་ཡ་གནམ་ལྕགས་འབར་བའི་རྩེར༔

riwo malaya namchak barwé tser

On Mount Malaya’s blazing peak of meteoric iron,

བདུད་པོ་མ་ཏྲཾ་རུ་ཏྲ་དྲག་པོས་བསྒྲལ༔

düpo matram rudra drakpö dral

You wrathfully liberated the demon Matram Rudra,

སྲིན་མོ་མ་ཚོགས་རྣམས་ལ་སྦྱོར་བ་མཛད༔

sinmo ma tsok nam la jorwa dzé

And united with the hordes of rakṣasis.

གསང་སྔགས་བསྟན་པ་དང་པོ་དེ་ནས་བྱོན༔

sang ngak tenpa dangpo dené jön

And so the teaching of the secret mantras first came;

གདུལ་བྱ་ཁྱད་པར་ཅན་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

dulja khyepar chen la solwa deb

To this special one who had to be subjugated, we pray!

ཨོ་རྒྱན་པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

To the Lotus-born Guru of Orgyen, we pray!

 

འོག་མིན་ཆོས་ཀྱི་དབྱིངས་ཀྱི་ཕོ་བྲང་དུ༔

womin chö kyi ying kyi podrang du

In the Akaniṣṭha palace of the dharmadhātu,

དུས་གསུམ་སྐྱེ་འགག་མེད་པ་ཆོས་ཀྱི་སྐུ༔

dü sum kyegak mepa chö kyi ku

Is the dharmakāya, which neither comes into being nor ceases, in the past, present or future,

ཆོས་རྣམས་རྣམ་དག་ཡེ་ནས་ལྷུན་གྱིས་གྲུབ༔

chö nam namdak yené lhün gyi drub

Where all dharmas are completely pure, and from the beginning spontaneously perfect.

སངས་རྒྱས་ཐམས་ཅད་ཐུགས་ལས་བསྐྱེད་པའི་ཡབ༔

sangye tamché tuk lé kyepé yab

To the father who generates all buddhas from his wisdom mind:

ཆོས་སྐུ་ཀུན་ཏུ་བཟང་པོ་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

chöku kuntuzangpo la solwa deb

To Samantabhadra, the dharmakāya, we pray!

ཨོ་རྒྱན་པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

To the Lotus-born Guru of Orgyen, we pray!

 

བདེ་ཆེན་ལྷུན་གྱིས་གྲུབ་པའི་ཞིང་ཁམས་སུ༔

dechen lhün gyi drubpé zhingkham su

In the pure realm of Spontaneously Perfect Great Bliss,

གཏི་མུག་རྣམ་དག་ཆོས་དབྱིངས་ཡེ་ཤེས་ངང་༔

timuk namdak chöying yeshe ngang

Embodying the wisdom of dharmadhātu, which is bewilderment in its natural purity,

རྣམ་པར་སྣང་མཛད་ལོངས་སྤྱོད་རྫོགས་པའི་སྐུ༔

nampar nang dzé longchö dzokpé ku

Vairocana presides as the saṃbhogakāya,

སྐུ་ཡི་རིགས་མཆོག་རིགས་ཀྱི་འཁོར་གྱིས་བསྐོར༔

ku yi rik chok rik kyi khor gyi kor

Surrounded by his entourage, the supreme family of the Wisdom Body.

བུདྡྷ་རིགས་ཀྱི་ལྷ་ཚོགས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

buddha rik kyi lhatsok la solwa deb

To you—deities of the Buddha family, we pray!

ཤར་ཕྱོགས་མངོན་པར་དགའ་བའི་ཞིང་ཁམས་སུ༔

sharchok ngönpar gawé zhingkham su

In the east, in the pure realm of Manifest Joy,

ཞེ་སྡང་རྣམ་དག་མེ་ལོང་ཡེ་ཤེས་ངང་༔

zhedang namdak melong yeshe ngang

Embodying mirror-like wisdom, which is anger in its natural purity,

རྡོ་རྗེ་སེམས་དཔའ་ལོངས་སྤྱོད་རྫོགས་པའི་སྐུ༔

dorjé sempa longchö dzokpé ku

Vajrasattva presides as the saṃbhogakāya,

ཐུགས་ཀྱི་རིགས་མཆོག་རིགས་ཀྱི་འཁོར་གྱིས་བསྐོར༔

tuk kyi rik chok rik kyi khor gyi kor

Surrounded by his entourage, the supreme family of the Wisdom Mind.

རྡོ་རྗེ་རིགས་ཀྱི་ལྷ་ཚོགས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

dorjé rik kyi lhatsok la solwa deb

To you—deities of the Vajra family, we pray!

ཨོ་རྒྱན་པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

To the Lotus-born Guru of Orgyen, we pray!

 

ལྷོ་ཕྱོགས་དཔལ་ལྡན་མཛེས་པའི་ཞིང་ཁམས་སུ༔

lhochok palden dzepé zhingkham su

In the south, in the pure realm Beauty in Glory,

ང་རྒྱལ་རྣམ་དག་མཉམ་ཉིད་ཡེ་ཤེས་ངང༔

ngagyal namdak nyamnyi yeshe ngang

Embodying equalizing wisdom, which is pride in its natural purity,

རིན་ཆེན་འབྱུང་གནས་ལོངས་སྤྱོད་རྫོགས་པའི་སྐུ༔

rinchen jungné longchö dzokpé ku

Ratnasambhava presides as the saṃbhogakāya,

ཡོན་ཏན་རིགས་མཆོག་རིགས་ཀྱི་འཁོར་གྱིས་བསྐོར༔

yönten rik chok rik kyi khor gyi kor

Surrounded by his entourage, the supreme family of Noble Qualities.

རིན་ཆེན་རིགས་ཀྱི་ལྷ་ཚོགས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

rinchen rik kyi lhatsok la solwa deb

To you—deities of the Ratna family, we pray!

ཨོ་རྒྱན་པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

To the Lotus-born Guru of Orgyen, we pray!

 

ནུབ་ཕྱོགས་བདེ་བ་ཅན་གྱི་ཞིང་ཁམས་སུ༔

nubchok dewachen gyi zhingkham su

In the west, in the pure realm The Blissful,

འདོད་ཆགས་རྣམ་དག་སོར་རྟོག་ཡེ་ཤེས་ངང་༔

döchak namdak sortok yeshe ngang

Embodying the wisdom of discernment, which is desire in its natural purity,

སྣང་བ་མཐའ་ཡས་ལོངས་སྤྱོད་རྫོགས་པའི་སྐུ༔

nangwa tayé longchö dzokpé ku

Amitābha presides as the saṃbhogakāya,

གསུང་གི་རིགས་མཆོག་རིགས་ཀྱི་འཁོར་གྱིས་བསྐོར༔

sung gi rik chok rik kyi khor gyi kor

Surrounded by his entourage, the supreme family of Wisdom Speech.

པདྨ་རིགས་ཀྱི་ལྷ་ཚོགས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

pema rik kyi lhatsok la solwa deb

To you—deities of the Padma family, we pray!

ཨོ་རྒྱན་པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

orgyen pemajungné la solwa deb

To the Lotus-born Guru of Orgyen, we pray!

 

བྱང་ཕྱོགས་ལས་རབ་རྫོགས་པའི་ཞིང་ཁམས་སུ༔

jangchok lerab dzokpé zhingkham su

In the north, in the pure realm Complete and Perfect Action,

ཕྲག་དོག་རྣམ་དག་བྱ་གྲུབ་ཡེ་ཤེས་ངང་༔

trakdok namdak ja drub yeshe ngang

Embodying all-accomplishing wisdom, which is jealousy in its natural purity,

དོན་ཡོད་གྲུབ་པ་ལོངས་སྤྱོད་རྫོགས་པའི་སྐུ༔

dönyö drubpa longchö dzokpé ku

Amoghasiddhi presides as the saṃbhogakāya,

ཕྲིན་ལས་རིགས་མཆོག་རིགས་ཀྱི་འཁོར་གྱིས་བསྐོར༔

trinlé rik chok rik kyi khor gyi kor

Surrounded by his entourage, the supreme family of Enlightened Activity.

ཀརྨ་རིགས་ཀྱི་ལྷ་ཚོགས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

karma rik kyi lhatsok la solwa deb

To you—deities of the Karma family, we pray!

ཨོ་རྒྱན་པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

orgyen pemajungné la solwa deb

To the Lotus-born Guru of Orgyen, we pray!

 

ཆོས་དབྱིངས་རོལ་པའི་གཞལ་ཡས་ཆེན་པོ་ན༔

chöying rolpé zhalyé chenpo na

In the measureless mansion of the play of dharmadhātu,

ཉོན་མོངས་དུག་ལྔ་བརྫིས་པའི་གདན་སྟེང་དུ༔

nyönmong duk nga dzipé den tengdu

Trampling on the five poisons of the negative emotions,

ཁྲོ་བོའི་རྒྱལ་པོ་ཆེ་མཆོག་ཧེ་རུ་ཀ་༔

trowö gyalpo chemchok heruka

Rages the sovereign among wrathful deities, Chemchok Heruka,

རིགས་ལྔ་བདེ་གཤེགས་འདུས་པའི་འཁོར་གྱིས་བསྐོར༔

rik nga deshek düpé khor gyi kor

Surrounded by his retinue of all the sugatas of the five families gathered together:

ཀུན་བཟང་ཧེ་རུ་ཀའི་ལྷ་ཚོགས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

kunzang heruké lhatsok la solwa deb

To you, Samantabhadra Heruka and all your deities, we pray!

ཨོ་རྒྱན་པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

To the Lotus-born Guru of Orgyen, we pray!

 

ཐུགས་རྗེ་རོལ་པའི་གཞལ་ཡས་ཆེན་པོ་ན༔

tukjé rolpé zhalyé chenpo na

In the great mansion of the play of compassion,

མ་བདུད་དྲེགས་པ་བརྫིས་པའི་གདན་སྟེང་དུ༔

ma dü drekpa dzipé den tengdu

Trampling the female arrogant demons underfoot,

མངོན་རྫོགས་རྒྱལ་པོ་ཆེ་མཆོག་ཧེ་རུ་ཀ༔

ngöndzok gyalpo chemchok heruka

Is Ngöndzok Gyalpo, the heruka Great and Sublime, ‘King of Manifest Perfection’,

ཡེ་ཤེས་ལས་གྲུབ་མ་མོའི་འཁོར་གྱིས་བསྐོར༔

yeshe lé drub mamö khor gyi kor

Surrounded by his retinue of mamos of wisdom and activity:

ཆེ་མཆོག་མ་མོའི་ལྷ་ཚོགས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

chemchok mamö lhatsok la solwa deb

To you, Chemchok and your hordes of mamos, we pray!

ཨོ་རྒྱན་པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

orgyen pemajungné la solwa deb

To the Lotus-born Guru of Orgyen, we pray!

 

མཐིང་ནག་གྲུ་གསུམ་འབར་བའི་གཞལ་ཡས་ན༔

tingnak drusum barwé zhalyé na

In a dark blue three-sided mansion, blazing with fire,

མ་ཏྲཾ་རུ་དྲ་བརྫིས་པའི་གདན་སྟེང་དུ༔

matram rudra dzipé den tengdu

Trampling on Matram Rudra,

ཐུགས་ཀྱི་བདག་ཉིད་བཛྲ་ཧེ་རུ་ཀ༔

tuk kyi daknyi benza heruka

Is Vajra Heruka, embodiment of the wisdom mind.

ཁྲག་འཐུང་ཁྲོ་བོ་འབར་བའི་འཁོར་གྱིས་བསྐོར༔

traktung trowo barwé khor gyi kor

Surrounded by his retinue of blazing, raging herukas,

དཔལ་ཆེན་ཧེ་རུ་ཀའི་ལྷ་ཚོགས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

palchen heruké lhatsok la solwa deb

To you, the great, awesome heruka and all your deities, we pray!

ཨོ་རྒྱན་པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

orgyen pemajungné la solwa deb

To the Lotus-born Guru of Orgyen, we pray!

 

མཐིང་ནག་ཨེ་ལས་དྲག་པོའི་གཞལ་ཡས་ན༔

tingnak é lé drakpö zhalyé na

In the wrathful mansion that arises from the dark blue syllable é,

གཤིན་རྗེ་ཆུ་གླང་བརྫིས་པའི་གདན་སྟེང་དུ༔

shinjé chu lang dzipé den tengdu

Trampling on Yama, the water buffalo,

འཇམ་དཔལ་ཡ་མཱནྟ་ཀ་གཤིན་རྗེའི་གཤེད༔

jampal yamantaka shinjé shé

Is Mañjuśrī in the form of Yamāntaka, slayer of the Lord of Death,

གཤེད་པོ་ཁྲོ་བོ་དྲེགས་པའི་འཁོར་གྱིས་བསྐོར༔

shepo trowo drekpé khor gyi kor

Surrounded by his horde of wild and wrathful slaughterers:

གཤིན་རྗེ་གཤེད་པོའི་ལྷ་ཚོགས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

shinjé shepö lhatsok la solwa deb

To you, Yamāntaka and all your deities, we pray!

ཨོ་རྒྱན་པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

orgyen pemajungné la solwa deb

To the Lotus-born Guru of Orgyen, we pray!

 

དམར་ནག་གྲུ་གསུམ་དབང་གི་གཞལ་ཡས་ན༔

mar nak drusum wang gi zhalyé na

In the dark red triangular mansion of power,

བདུད་ནག་ཕོ་མོ་བརྫིས་པའི་གདན་སྟེང་དུ༔

dü nak pomo dzipé den tengdu

Treading on the dark māra demons, male and female,

དབང་གི་རྒྱལ་པོ་པདྨ་ཧེ་རུ་ཀ༔

wang gi gyalpo pema heruka

Arises Padma Heruka, king of power,

པདྨ་རིགས་ཀྱི་ཁྲོ་བོ་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་བསྐོར༔

pema rik kyi trowo nam kyi kor

Surrounded by the wrathful deities of the Padma family

རྟ་མགྲིན་དབང་གི་ལྷ་ཚོགས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

tamdrin wang gi lhatsok la solwa deb

To you, mighty Hayagrīva and all your deities, we pray!

ཨོ་རྒྱན་པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

orgyen pemajungné la solwa deb

To the Lotus-born Guru of Orgyen, we pray!

 

བསྐལ་པ་མེ་ལྟར་འབར་བའི་གཞལ་ཡས་ན༔

kalpa mé tar barwé zhalyé na

In the mansion which blazes like the inferno at the end of a kalpa,

ཕོ་བདུད་དྲེགས་པ་བརྫིས་པའི་གདན་སྟེང་དུ༔

po dü drekpa dzipé den tengdu

Trampling arrogant male demons,

དཔལ་ཆེན་རྡོ་རྗེ་གཞོན་ནུ་དཔའ་བོའི་སྐུ༔

palchen dorjé zhönnu pawö ku

Is the great and glorious Vajrakumāra, his form like a warrior’s,

བདུད་འདུལ་ཁྲོ་བཅུ་ཁྲ་ཐབས་འཁོར་གྱིས་བསྐོར༔

düdul tro chu tra tab khor gyi kor

Surrounded by his retinue: the ten wrathful ones, who subjugate māras, with their aides, the tratap.

རྡོ་རྗེ་ཕུར་བའི་ལྷ་ཚོགས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

dorjé purwé lhatsok la solwa deb

To you, Vajrakīlaya and all your deities, we pray!

ཨོ་རྒྱན་པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

orgyen pemajungné la solwa deb

To the Lotus-born Guru of Orgyen, we pray!

 

པདྨ་དབང་གི་གཞལ་ཡས་ཆེན་པོ་ན༔

pema wang gi zhalyé chenpo na

In the great mansion of the Lotus of Power,

མ་ཆགས་པདྨ་འབར་བའི་གདན་སྟེང་དུ༔

ma chak pema barwé den tengdu

Seated on a shining lotus flower of non-attachment,

བཅོམ་ལྡན་མགོན་པོ་ཡེ་ཤེས་ཚེ་དཔག་མེད༔

chomden gönpo yeshe tsepakmé

Presides the enlightened one, the lord of wisdom and longevity, Amitāyus,

འཆི་མེད་ཚེ་ཡི་ལྷ་ཚོགས་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་བསྐོར༔

chimé tsé yi lhatsok nam kyi kor

Surrounded by all the deities of immortality and long life:

རྡོ་རྗེ་ཚེ་ཡི་ལྷ་ཚོགས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

dorjé tsé yi lhatsok la solwa deb

To all you deities of indestructible vajra life, we pray!

ཨོ་རྒྱན་པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

To the Lotus-born Guru of Orgyen, we pray!

 

དུར་ཁྲོད་རྔམ་བརྗིད་རོལ་པའི་གཞལ་ཡས་ན༔

durtrö ngam ji rolpé zhalyé na

In the mansion on the charnel ground Display of Horror,

ཏི་ར་གན་རྐྱལ་བརྫིས་པའི་གདན་སྟེང་དུ༔

tira genkyal dzipé den tengdu

Trampling on the corpse of the supine demon Tira,

Dances the great wrathful mother, Vajravārāhī,

མ་མོ་མཁའ་འགྲོ་ལྷ་ཚོགས་འཁོར་གྱིས་བསྐོར༔

mamo khandro lhatsok khor gyi kor

Encircled by her retinue of mamos and ḍākinīs:

རྡོ་རྗེ་རྣལ་འབྱོར་མའི་ལྷ་ཚོགས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

རྒྱ་གར་རྡོ་རྗེ་གདན་གྱི་ཕོ་བྲང་དུ༔

gyagar dorjé den gyi podrang du

At the palace of the Vajra seat in India,

རྒྱུ་འབྲས་བདེན་པས་འགྲོ་བའི་དོན་མཛད་ཅིང༔

gyundré denpé drowé dön dzé ching

Is the one who brings benefit to beings through teaching the truth of cause and effect,

སྡེ་སྣོད་གསུམ་གྱི་བསྟན་པའི་རྒྱལ་མཚན་བཙུགས༔

denö sum gyi tenpé gyaltsen tsuk

Who raises the victory banner of the teachings of the tripiṭaka,

ཉན་ཐོས་བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་དཔའི་འཁོར་གྱིས་བསྐོར༔

nyentö changchub sempé khor gyi kor

Surrounded by his entourage of śrāvakas and bodhisattvas:

སྤྲུལ་སྐུ་ཤཱཀྱ་ཐུབ་པ་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

tulku shakya tubpa la solwa deb

To you, the nirmāṇakāya Śākyamuni, we pray!

དྷ་ན་ཀོ་ཤ་ཀླུ་ཡི་ཕོ་བྲང་དུ༔

dhanakosha lu yi podrang du

In the palace of the nāgas at Dhanakośa

ཐུགས་རྗེའི་སྟོབས་ཀྱིས་འགྲོ་བའི་དོན་ལ་བྱོན༔

tukjé tob kyi drowé dön la jön

Is the one who, through the power of his compassion, comes to benefit beings.

རྒྱལ་བའི་དགོངས་པས་འགྲོ་དྲུག་རང་གྲོལ་མཛད༔

gyalwé gongpé dro druk rangdrol dzé

And, through the buddhas' enlightened vision, causes beings of the six realms to find self-liberation.

མཁའ་འགྲོ་སྡེ་ལྔ་མ་མོའི་འཁོར་གྱིས་བསྐོར༔

khandro dé nga mamö khor gyi kor

Surrounded by his entourage, the five classes of ḍākinīs:

སྤྲུལ་སྐུ་དགའ་རབ་རྡོ་རྗེ་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

tulku garab dorjé la solwa deb

To you, the nirmāṇakāya, Garab Dorjé, we pray!

རྒྱ་ནག་རི་བོ་རྩེ་ལྔའི་ཕོ་བྲང་དུ༔

gyanak riwo tsé ngé podrang du

In the palace of the Five-Peaked Mountain in China,

སངས་རྒྱས་སྐུ་ཡི་སྤྲུལ་པ་འཇམ་དཔལ་དབྱངས༔

sangye ku yi trulpa jampal yang

Is Mañjughoṣa, emanation of the buddhas’ wisdom body,

སྟེང་འོག་ཕྱོགས་བཞིར་སྐུ་ཡིས་འགྲོ་དོན་མཛད༔

tengok chok zhir ku yi dro dön dzé

Bringing benefit to beings in the four directions, above and below, through his perfect form,

སྐུ་ཡི་བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་དཔའི་འཁོར་གྱིས་བསྐོར༔

ku yi changchub sempé khor gyi kor

Surrounded by his entourage of bodhisattvas of the wisdom body:

འཕགས་པ་འཇམ་དཔལ་གྱི་ལྷ་ཚོགས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

pakpa jampal gyi lhatsok la solwa deb

To you, the noble Mañjuśrī and all your deities, we pray!

གནས་ཆེན་རི་བོ་ཏ་ལའི་ཕོ་བྲང་དུ༔

né chen riwo talé podrang du

At the great power-place, the palace of Mount Potala,

སངས་རྒྱས་གསུང་གི་སྤྲུལ་པ་སྤྱན་རས་གཟིགས༔

sangye sung gi trulpa chenrezig

Is Avalokiteśvara, emanation of the buddhas’ wisdom speech,

སྟེང་འོག་ཕྱོགས་བཞིར་གསུང་གིས་འགྲོ་དོན་མཛད༔

tengok chok zhir sung gi dro dön dzé

Bringing benefit to beings in the four directions, above and below, with his speech,

གསུང་གི་བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་དཔའི་འཁོར་གྱིས་བསྐོར༔

sung gi changchub sempé khor gyi kor

Surrounded by his entourage of bodhisattvas of wisdom speech:

སྤྱན་རས་གཟིགས་ཀྱི་ལྷ་ཚོགས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

chenrezig kyi lhatsok la solwa deb

To you, Avalokiteśvara and all your deities, we pray!

གནས་མཆོག་ལྕང་ལོ་ཅན་གྱི་ཕོ་བྲང་དུ༔

né chok changlochen gyi podrang du

At the supreme place of power, the palace of Alakāvatī,

སངས་རྒྱས་ཐུགས་ཀྱི་སྤྲུལ་པ་རྡོ་རྗེ་འཛིན༔

sangye tuk kyi trulpa dorjé dzin

Is Vajrapāṇi, emanation of the buddhas’ wisdom mind,

སྟེང་འོག་ཕྱོགས་བཞིར་ཐུགས་ཀྱིས་འགྲོ་དོན་མཛད༔

tengok chok zhir tuk kyi dro dön dzé

Benefitting beings in the four directions, above and below, with his mind,

ཐུགས་ཀྱི་བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་དཔའི་འཁོར་གྱིས་བསྐོར༔

tuk kyi changchub sempé khor gyi kor

Surrounded by his entourage of bodhisattvas of wisdom mind:

ཕྱག་ན་རྡོ་རྗེའི་ལྷ་ཚོགས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

chaknadorjé lhatsok la solwa deb

To you, Vajrapāṇi and all your deities, we pray!

སྟེང་ཕྱོགས་རྣམ་པར་རྒྱལ་བའི་ཁང་བཟང་དུ༔

tengchok nampar gyalwé khang zang du

Above, in the exquisite palace of Complete Victory,

འཕགས་པ་འཇམ་དཔལ་ཐུགས་ཀྱི་དགོངས་པ་ཡིས༔

pakpa jampal tuk kyi gongpa yi

Through the vision of Mañjuśrī’s wisdom mind,

ལྷ་དབང་བརྒྱ་བྱིན་གནས་སུ་གསང་སྔགས་བྱོན༔

lhawang gyajin né su sang ngak jön

The secret mantra teachings appeared in the realm of Indra, king of the gods,

ཚོམ་བུ་འབུམ་དང་བཅས་ཏེ་མངོན་སངས་རྒྱས༔

tsombu bum dangché té ngön sangye

And one hundred thousand attained true enlightenment:

ལྷ་ཡི་རིག་འཛིན་རྣམས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

lha yi rigdzin nam la solwa deb

To you, the vidyādharas among the gods, we pray!

ཨོ་རྒྱན་པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

To the Lotus-born Guru of Orgyen, we pray!

 

འོག་ཕྱོགས་རྒྱ་མཚོ་ཆེན་པོའི་གཏིང་རུམ་དུ༔

ochok gyatso chenpö ting rum du

Below, in the depths of the great ocean,

སྤྱན་རས་གཟིགས་དབང་ཐུགས་ཀྱི་དགོངས་པ་ཡིས༔

chenrezig wang tuk kyi gongpa yi

Through the vision of Lord Avalokiteśvara’s wisdom mind,

ཀླུ་རྒྱལ་འཇོག་པོའི་གནས་སུ་གསང་སྔགས་བྱོན༔

lugyal jokpö né su sang ngak jön

The secret mantra teachings appeared in the realm of Takṣaka, king of the nāgas,

ཚོམ་བུ་འབུམ་དང་བཅས་ཏེ་མངོན་སངས་རྒྱས༔

tsombu bum dangché té ngön sangye

And one hundred thousand attained true enlightenment:

ཀླུ་ཡི་རིག་འཛིན་རྣམས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

lu yi rigdzin nam la solwa deb

To you, the vidyādharas among the nāgas, we pray!

ཨོ་རྒྱན་པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

To the Lotus-born Guru of Orgyen, we pray!

 

རི་རྒྱལ་མེ་རི་འབར་བའི་རྩེ་མོ་རུ༔

ri gyal meri barwé tsemo ru

On the summit of the Blazing Fiery Volcano, king of mountains,

ཕྱག་ན་རྡོ་རྗེའི་ཐུགས་ཀྱི་དགོངས་པ་ཡིས༔

chaknadorjé tuk kyi gongpa yi

Through the vision of Vajrapāṇi’s wisdom mind,

རྒྱལ་པོ་ཛཿཡི་གནས་སུ་གསང་སྔགས་བྱོན༔

gyalpo dza yi né su sang ngak jön

The secret mantra teachings appeared in the realm of King Ja,

གང་ཟག་ལས་ཅན་མ་ལུས་བྱང་ཆུབ་ཐོབ༔

gangzak lechen malü changchub tob

And every single individual with the karmic destiny attained enlightenment:

མི་ཡི་རིག་འཛིན་རྣམས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

mi yi rigdzin nam la solwa deb

To you, the vidyādharas among humans, we pray!

ཨོ་རྒྱན་པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

orgyen pemajungné la solwa deb

To the Lotus-born Guru of Orgyen, we pray!

 

ནུབ་ཕྱོགས་ཨོ་རྒྱན་དབང་གི་ཕོ་བྲང་དུ༔

nubchok orgyen wang gi podrang du

In the powerful palace of Orgyen, in the west,

བདེ་གཤེགས་སྐུ་གསུང་ཐུགས་ཀྱི་སྤྲུལ་པ་སྟེ༔

deshek ku sung tuk kyi trulpa té

Is the emanation of the sugatas’ body, speech and mind,

འཛམ་བུ་གླིང་དུ་འགྲོ་བའི་དོན་ལ་བྱོན༔

dzambuling du drowé dön la jön

Who came to this world of ours to benefit beings.

རིག་འཛིན་མཁའ་འགྲོ་མང་པོའི་འཁོར་གྱིས་བསྐོར༔

rigdzin khandro mangpö khor gyi kor

Surrounded by his entourage of countless vidyādharas and ḍākinīs,

པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་ཀྱི་ལྷ་ཚོགས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

pemajungné kyi lhatsok la solwa deb

To you, Padmakāra and all your deities, we pray!

ཨོ་རྒྱན་པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

orgyen pemajungné la solwa deb

To the Lotus-born Guru of Orgyen, we pray!

 

ཆོས་སྐུ་ལོངས་སྐུ་སྤྲུལ་སྐུ་ཡང་སྤྲུལ་དང་༔

chöku longku tulku yangtrul dang

To the dharmakāya, saṃbhogakāya, nirmāṇakāya, with your further emanations, and

འདས་དང་མ་བྱོན་ད་ལྟ་དུས་གསུམ་གྱི༔

dé dang majön danta dü sum gyi

To all the buddhas, vidyādharas and bodhisattvas throughout the whole of time,

ཕྱོགས་བཅུའི་སངས་རྒྱས་རིག་འཛིན་བྱང་སེམས་ལ༔

chok chü sangye rigdzin changsem la

And through all dimensions of space:

བདག་ཅག་ལུས་ངག་ཡིད་གསུམ་གུས་པ་ཡིས༔

dakchak lü ngak yi sum güpa yi

With devotion and longing filling our body, speech and mind,

ཡིད་གཉིས་ཐེ་ཚོམ་མེད་པར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

yinyi tetsom mepar solwa deb

With no trace of hesitation or doubt, to you we pray!

ཨོ་རྒྱན་པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

orgyen pemajungné la solwa deb

To the Lotus-born Guru of Orgyen, we pray!

ཞེས་གསུངས་སོ༔

This is what he said.

རྒྱལ་པོ་ཆེན་པོ་ཚེ་འདིའི་ཁེ་གྲགས་དང་འདུ་འཛིའི་དབང་དུ་མ་བཏང་བར་དུས་རྒྱུན་དུ་གསོལ་བ་ཐོབ༔ གསང་སྔགས་ཀྱི་རྩ་བ་དམ་ཚིག་ཡིན༔ དམ་ཚིག་གི་རྩ་བ་མོས་གུས་དང་བརྩོན་འགྲུས་ཡིན༔ དེ་གཉིས་ཀྱི་རྩ་བ་བླ་མ་དང་ཡི་དམ་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས་པ་ཡིན་པས༔ བརྩོན་འགྲུས་ཅན་གྱིས་ཉམས་སུ་བླངས་ན༔ ཚེ་འདིར་ཕྱག་རྒྱ་ཆེན་པོ་མཆོག་གི་དངོས་གྲུབ་ཐོབ་པར་འགྱུར་ཞེས་གསུངས་སོ༔

“O Great King, do not let yourself fall under the power of the fame and distractions of this life, but pray continuously! The root of the secret mantra path is to keep the samaya. The roots of the samaya are devotion and diligence. And the root of these two is to pray to your master and your yidam deity. Someone who is diligent and puts this into practice will obtain the supreme siddhi of mahāmudrā in this very lifetime.”

So he spoke.
