Invoking the Blessings of the Kagyü Lineage—‘Dorjechang Thungma’

རྡོ་རྗེ་འཆང་ཆེན་ཏཻ་ལོ་ནཱ་རོ་དང་། །

dorjé chang chen telo naro dang

Great Vajradhara, Tilopa and Nāropa,

མར་པ་མི་ལ་ཆོས་རྗེ་སྒམ་པོ་པ། །

marpa mila chöjé gampopa

Marpa, Milarepa, and Gampopa, lord of Dharma,

དུས་གསུམ་ཤེས་བྱ་ཀུན་མཁྱེན་ཀརྨ་པ། །

dü sum sheja künkhyen karmapa

You who know all past, present and future—the Karmapa,

ཆེ་བཞི་ཆུང་བརྒྱད་བརྒྱུད་པར་འཛིན་རྣམས་དང་། །

che zhi chung gyé gyüpar dzin nam dang

Holders of the four earlier and eight later lineages,

འབྲི་སྟག་ཚལ་གསུམ་དཔལ་ལྡན་འབྲུག་པ་སོགས། །

dri tak tsal sum palden drukpa sok

Drikung, Taklung, Tsalpa, the glorious Drukpa and the rest,

ཟབ་ལམ་ཕྱག་རྒྱ་ཆེ་ལ་མངའ་བརྙེས་པའི། །

zablam chakgya ché la nganyepé

Masters of the profound path of Mahāmudrā,

མཉམ་མེད་འགྲོ་མགོན་དྭགས་པོ་བཀའ་བརྒྱུད་ལ། །

nyammé dro gön dakpo kagyü la

Unequalled protectors of beings, the Dakpo Kagyü,

གསོལ་བ་འདེབས་སོ་བཀའ་བརྒྱུད་བླ་མ་རྣམས། །

solwa deb so kagyü lama nam

To all of you, the Kagyü lamas, I pray: inspire me

བརྒྱུད་པ་འཛིན་ནོ་རྣམ་ཐར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །

gyüpa dzin no namtar jingyi lob

With your blessing to uphold this lineage, and follow you to liberation.

 

ཞེན་ལོག་སྒོམ་གྱི་རྐང་པར་གསུངས་པ་བཞིན། །

zhenlok gom gyi kangpar sungpa zhin

Revulsion for saṃsāra is the feet of meditation; so it is taught.

ཟས་ནོར་ཀུན་ལ་ཆགས་ཞེན་མེད་པ་དང་། །

zé nor kün la chak zhen mepa dang

Free of craving and attachment to things like food and wealth,

ཚེ་འདིའི་གདོས་ཐག་ཆོད་པའི་སྒོམ་ཆེན་ལ། །

tsé di dö takchöpé gomchen la

Having severed the ties to this life, inspire this meditator

རྙེད་བཀུར་ཞེན་པ་མེད་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །

nyekur zhenpa mepar jingyi lob

With your blessing, to be rid of addiction to possessions and fame.

 

མོས་གུས་སྒོམ་གྱི་མགོ་བོར་གསུངས་པ་བཞིན། །

mögü gom gyi gowor sungpa zhin

Devotion is the head of meditation; so it is taught.

མན་ངག་གཏེར་སྒོ་འབྱེད་པའི་བླ་མ་ལ། །

mengak tergo jepé lama la

The lama opens the door to the treasure of the pith instructions;

རྒྱུན་དུ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས་པའི་སྒོམ་ཆེན་ལ། །

gyündu solwa debpé gomchen la

Praying constantly to him, inspire this meditator

བཅོས་མིན་མོས་གུས་སྐྱེ་བར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །

chömin mögü kyewar jingyi lob

With your blessing, so that uncontrived devotion is born within me.

 

ཡེངས་མེད་སྒོམ་གྱི་དངོས་གཞིར་གསུངས་པ་བཞིན། །

yengmé gom gyi ngözhir sungpa zhin

Non-distraction is the main body of meditation; so it is taught.

གང་ཤར་རྟོག་པའི་ངོ་བོ་སོ་མ་དེ། །

gangshar tokpé ngowo soma dé

Whatever arises, in that very essence of thought, fresh, natural,

མ་བཅོས་དེ་ཀར་འཇོག་པའི་སྒོམ་ཆེན་ལ། །

machö dekar jokpé gomchen la

Unaltered—leaving it just there, inspire this meditator

བསྒོམ་བྱ་བློ་དང་བྲལ་བར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །

gomja lo dangdral bar jingyi lob

With your blessing, so my meditation is free from conceptual mind.

 

རྣམ་རྟོག་ངོ་བོ་ཆོས་སྐུར་གསུངས་པ་བཞིན། །

namtok ngowo chökur sungpa zhin

The nature of thoughts is dharmakāya; so it is taught.

ཅི་ཡང་མ་ཡིན་ཅིར་ཡང་འཆར་བ་ལ། །

chiyang mayin chiryang charwa la

They are nothing whatsoever, yet appear as anything at all,

མ་འགགས་རོལ་པ་འཆར་བའི་སྒོམ་ཆེན་ལ། །

magak rolpa charwé gomchen la

Arising as an unceasing display; inspire this meditator

འཁོར་འདས་དབྱེར་མེད་རྟོགས་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །

khordé yermé tokpar jingyi lob

With your blessing, to realize that saṃsāra and nirvāṇa are not separate.

 

སྐྱེ་བ་ཀུན་ཏུ་ཡང་དག་བླ་མ་དང་། །

kyewa küntu yangdak lama dang

In all my lives, may I never be separate

འབྲལ་མེད་ཆོས་ཀྱི་དཔལ་ལ་ལོངས་སྤྱོད་ཅིང་། །

dralmé chö kyi pal la longchö ching

From the perfect lama, and so enjoy the splendour of Dharma;

ས་དང་ལམ་གྱི་ཡོན་ཏན་རབ་རྫོགས་ནས། །

sa dang lam gyi yönten rabdzok né

Mastering completely the qualities of the path and stages,

རྡོ་རྗེ་འཆང་གི་གོ་འཕང་མྱུར་ཐོབ་ཤོག །

dorjé chang gi gopang nyur tob shok

May I swiftly attain the sublime state of Vajradhara.

 

ཅེས་པའང་བན་སྒར་བ་འཇམ་དཔལ་བཟང་པོས་མཛད་པའོ། །
