The Sweet Song of Immortality: A Long-Life Prayer

ཨོཾ་སྭསྟི།

om svasti

Oṃ svasti.

རྒྱལ་ཀུན་ཡེ་ཤེས་གཅིག་བསྡུས་མཁྱེན༵་པའི་གཏེར། །

gyal kün yeshe chikdü khyenpé ter

Treasury of knowledge embodying the wisdom of all the victors,¹

བརྩེ༵་ཆེན་སྤྱན་རས་གཟིགས་དང་རྣམ་དབྱེར་མེད། །

tsé chen chenrezik dang namyer mé

Indivisible from great and loving Avalokiteśvara,

ནུས་པ་གསང་བ་འཛིན་པའི་དབ༵ང་པོ༵་དང་། །

nüpa sangwa dzinpé wangpo dang

And from the mighty lord, the bearer of secrets,²

དབྱེར་མེད་དཔལ་ལྡན་བླ་མར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

yermé palden lamar solwa deb

Glorious guru, to you I pray.³

འཇ༵མ་དཔལ་དབྱང༵ས་དངོས་བླ་མའི་བྱིན་རླབས་ལས། །

jampal yang ngö lamé jinlab lé

Through the blessings of the guru, Mañjughoṣa in reality,

སྙིགས་དུས་འགྲོ་བ་འདུལ་བའི་ཕྲིན་ལས་ཅན། །

nyikdü drowa dulwé trinlé chen

May the one whose activity tames beings of this degenerate age,

བློ༵་གྲོས༵་ཐོས་བསམ་རྒྱ༵་མཚོའི༵་འབྱུང་གནས་མཆོག །

lodrö tö sam gyatsö jungné chok

The supreme source of an ocean of intelligent study and reflection,

བཤད་སྒྲུབ་བསྟན་པའི་མགོན་དུ་ཞབས་བརྟན་གསོལ། །

shedrub tenpé gön du zhabten sol

Live long as a guardian of the teachings in exposition and practice.⁴

སྐུ་ཚེ་འཆི་མེད་གྲུབ་པའི་ལང་ཚོ་རྒྱས། །

kutsé chimé drubpé langtso gyé

May the youthfulness that is the accomplishment of immortal life flourish,

གསུང་གི་ཆོས་སྒྲས་ས་གསུམ་ཀུན་ཏུ་ཁྱབ། །

sung gi chö dré sa sum küntu khyab

The sound of Dharma wholly pervade the three planes of existence,

མཁྱེན་བརྩེའི་ཡེ་ཤེས་ཉི་ཟླའི་འོད་སྣང་གིས། །

khyentsé yeshe nyidé ö nang gi

And the brilliant light of the sun and moon—wisdom of knowledge and love—

འཛམ་གླིང་བཀྲ་ཤིས་དགེ་ལེགས་དཔལ་འབར་ཤོག །

dzamling tashi gelek palbar shok

Blaze in splendour, bringing auspiciousness and excellence to the world.

ཅེས་པའང་སྔ་འགྱུར་བསྟན་པའི་གསལ་བྱེད་ཆེན་པོ་ཁྱུང་པོ་པཱ་ཏཱྃ་མཆོག་སྤྲུལ་རིན་པོ་ཆེའི་ཉེ་གནས་ཤེས་རབ་འོད་ཟེར་གྱིས་གསུང་བསྐུལ་གནང་ངོར་ཆོས་ཀྱི་བློ་གྲོས་པས་སྨོན་པ་དོན་དང་ལྡན་པར་གྱུར་ཅིག །

Thus, in response to a request from Sherab Özer, attendant to Khyungpo Patam Choktrul Rinpoche, a great illuminator of the Ancient Translation teachings, Chökyi Lodrö made this aspiration. May it prove significant!
