A Prayer to the Twenty-Five Founders of Buddha's Teachings in Tibet

རྩ་གསུམ་ཀུན་འདུས་སློབ་དཔོན་པདྨ་འབྱུང༌། །
tsa sum kün dü loppön pema jung
Padmasambhava, embodiment of all Gurus, Devas and Ḍākinīs,
མཁན་ཆེན་ཞི་འཚོ་ཆོས་རྒྱལ་ཁྲི་སྲོང་ཞབས། །
khenchen zhi tso chö gyal tri song zhap
Great Khenpo Śāntarakṣita, and the Dharma-king Tri Songdetsen,
གནུབས་ཆེན་སངས་རྒྱས་ཉང་སྟོན་ཉི་མ་འོད། །
nupchen sangyé nyang tön nyima ö
Nubchen Sangyé Yeshé and Nyangrel Nyima Özer:
བཀའ་གཏེར་ཤིང་རྟ་ལྔ་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

To you, the five pioneers of the kama and terma, we pray!
རྡོ་རྗེ་འཆང་དངོས་བླ་ཆེན་སྙིང་པོའི་ཞབས། །
dorjé chang ngö la chen nyingpö zhap
Sachen Kunga Nyingpo, who is Vajradhara in person,
བསོད་ནམས་རྩེ་མོ་གྲགས་པ་རྒྱལ་མཚན་དང༌། །
sönam tsé mo drakpa gyaltsen dang
Sönam Tsemo and Drakpa Gyaltsen,
ས་སྐྱ་པཎ་ཆེན་འཕགས་པ་རིན་པོ་ཆེ། །
sakya penchen pakpa rinpoché
Sakya Paṇḍita and Chögyal Phakpa.
རྗེ་བཙུན་གོང་མ་ལྔ་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །
jetsün gong ma nga la solwa dep
To you, the five founders of the Sakya order, we pray!
དགྱེས་མཛད་རྡོ་རྗེ་མར་སྟོན་བློ་གྲོས་ཞབས། །
gyé dzé dorjé mar tön lodrö zhap
Marpa Lodrö, who is one with Hevajra,
མི་ལ་རས་ཆེན་མཉམ་མེད་སྒམ་པོ་པ། །
milaré chen nyam mé gampopa
Great Milarepa, peerless Gampopa,
དུས་གསུམ་མཁྱེན་པ་འགྲོ་མགོན་བསོད་ནམས་གྲགས། །
dü sum khyen pa dro gön sönam drak
Karmapa Düsum Khyenpa and Sönam Drakpa, protector of beings:
བཀའ་བརྒྱུད་གོང་མ་ལྔ་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །
kagyü gong ma nga la solwa dep
To you, the five founders of the Kagyü tradition, we pray!
འོད་དཔག་མེད་མགོན་དཔལ་ལྡན་མར་མེ་མཛད། །
ö pak mé gön palden marmé dzé
Glorious Atisha, the same as Buddha Amitābha,
རྒྱལ་བའི་འབྱུང་གནས་སྤྱན་སྔ་ཚུལ་ཁྲིམས་འབར། །
gyalwé jung né chen nga tsultrim bar
Dromtön Gyalwé Jungné, and Chengawa Tsultrim Bar,
རིན་ཆེན་གསལ་དང་གཞོན་ནུ་རྒྱལ་མཚན་ཞབས། །
rinchen sal dang zhön nu gyaltsen zhap
Potowa Rinchen Sel and Phuchungwa Shyönnu Gyaltsen:
བཀའ་གདམས་བཤེས་གཉེན་ལྔ་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །
kadam shé nyen nga la solwa dep
To you, the Kadampas' five great spiritual guides, we pray!
བརྟན་པའི་འཁོར་ལོ་རྗེ་བཙུན་ཙོང་ཁ་པ། །
tenpé khorlo jétsün tsongkhapa
Venerable Tsongkhapa, who turns the wheel of Buddha's teaching,
རྒྱལ་ཚབ་ཆོས་རྗེ་མཁས་གྲུབ་དགེ་ལེགས་དཔལ། །
gyaltsap chö jé khé drup gé lek pal
Gyaltsab, Lord of Dharma, and Khedrup Gelek Pal,
དགེ་འདུན་གྲུབ་པ་པཎ་ཆེན་ཆོས་ཀྱི་རྒྱལ། །
géndün drupa penchen chö kyi gyal
Gendün Drubpa and Panchen Chökyi Gyaltsen:
འཇམ་མགོན་ཡབ་སྲས་ལྔ་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །
jamgön yap sé nga la solwa dep
To you five, the emanation of Mañjuśrī and his heirs, we pray!
དེ་ལྟར་གསོལ་བ་བཏབ་པའི་བྱིན་རླབས་ཀྱིས། །
dé tar solwa tap pé jin lap kyi
Through the blessing of our reciting this prayer,
བདག་སོགས་ཚེ་རིང་ནད་མེད་ཆོས་བཞིན་སྤྱོད། །
dak sok tsering né mé chö zhin chö
May we and all others enjoy a long life, without illness, and may our lives be meaningful and one with the Dharma!
ཡོངས་འཛིན་བཤེས་གཉེན་མཆོག་གིས་རྗེས་བཟུང་ནས། །
yong dzin shé nyen chok gi jé zung né
By following these supreme spiritual guides, masters of all traditions,
མྱུར་དུ་བྱང་ཆུབ་གོ་འཕང་ཐོབ་པར་ཤོག །
nyur du changchup go pang top par shok
May we quickly attain the perfect state of enlightenment!
རིས་མེད་ཐུབ་བསྟན་འཛིན་པའི་དམ་པ་རྣམས། །
rimé tupten dzinpé dampa nam
May those noble ones who uphold the non-partisan teaching of Buddha
བསྐལ་བརྒྱར་ཞབས་བརྟན་འཕྲིན་ལས་ཕྱོགས་བཅུར་འཕེལ། །
kal gyar zhapten trin lé chok chur pel
Live for hundreds of aeons, and may their activities increase in all directions!
དགེ་འདུན་སྡེ་དང་བཤད་སྒྲུབ་བསྟན་པ་རྒྱས། །
géndün dé dang shédrup tenpa gyé
May the Saṅgha increase and may the study and practice of Buddha's teaching spread and grow!
ས་གསུམ་བཀྲ་ཤིས་སྣང་བས་ཁྱབ་གྱུར་ཅིག །
sa sum tashi nangwé khyap gyur chik
May the whole universe and its three worlds be flooded with the sun-light of auspiciousness!
ཅེས་རྨི་ལམ་གྱི་སྣང་ཚུལ་ཅུང་ཟད་ཅིག་ལ་བརྟེན་ནས་ཐུབ་བསྟན་རིས་སུ་མ་ཆད་པ་ལ་གུས་པའི་བྱ་བྲལ་མཉྫུ་གྷོ་ཥས་བྲིས་པ་དགེ། །།
Inspired by a vision he had in a dream, the yogi Mañjughoṣa (Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo), one who is completely devoted to the non-sectarian (Rimé) teaching of Buddha, composed this. May virtue abound!
