ཨོཾ་སྭསྟི།

om swati

Oṃ svasti.

གདོད་མའི་མགོན་པོ་ཐུབ་དབང་ཤཱཀྱའི་ཏོག །

dömé gönpo tubwang shakyé tok

Our very first protector Munīndra Śākyamuni,

ཚེ་འོད་མཐའ་ཡས་རྔ་སྒྲའི་༧རྒྱལ་པོ་སོགས། །

tsé ö tayé ngadré gyalpo sok

Amitāyus, Amitābha, “King of the Sound of the Drum”,¹

རབ་འབྱམས་ཚེ་ལྷ་མཆོག་གསུམ་རྒྱ་མཚོ་ཡིས། །

rabjam tselha chok sum gyatso yi

Infinite deities of longevity, along with ‘the three supreme ones’,

དེང་འདིར་ཤིས་པའི་དགེ་ལེགས་སྩལ་དུ་གསོལ། །

dengdir shipé gelek tsal du sol

Grant us auspiciousness, goodness and well-being, here and now!

ལྔ་བདོའི་འགྲོ་ལ་ཐུགས་བསྐྱེད་སྐྱ་རེངས་ཀྱིས། །

nga dö dro la tukkyé kya reng kyi

In the holy land of India, you were the great mahāsiddha named Punya.

ཉེར་བསུས་འཕགས་པའི་ཡུལ་གྱི་གྲུབ་ཆེན་ཕུལ། །

nyer sü pakpé yul gyi drubchen pul

The brilliant sunrise of your bodhicitta and love for beings in this age of five degenerations

པུཎྱེའི་མཚན་ཅན་བསམ་བཞིན་སྤྲུལ་པའི་སྐུ། །

punyé tsenchen samzhin trulpé ku

Moved you to be born intentionally now

ཉིན་མོར་བྱེད་གང་མི་ནུབ་འཚོ་གཞེས་གསོལ།

nyinmor jé gang mi nub tsozhé sol

To light up this world like a sun that never sets: may your life be long!

ཕྱི་རུ་ཉན་ཐོས་སྤྱོད་པས་ཞི་དུལ་ལྡན། །

chi ru nyentö chöpé zhi dulden

Outwardly, you are peaceful and gentle, upholding the conduct of the śrāvakas.

ནང་དུ་བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་མཆོག་རིག་པ་འཛིན། །

nang du changchub sem chok rigpa dzin

Inwardly, you are a sublime bodhisattva and vidyādhara.

གསང་བ་འོད་གསལ་སྙིང་པོའི་མངའ་བདག་ཆེ། །

sangwa ösal nyingpö ngadak ché

Secretly, you are a great master of the Clear Light Essence:

༧ཞབས་ཟུང་ཆོས་བདུན་ངོ་བོར་རྟག་བརྟན་གསོལ། །

zhabzung chödün ngowor takten sol

May your life be as steadfast and firm as the seven indestructible qualities!²

བརྟན་མཁས་ངུར་སྨྲིག་འཛིན་པའི་མཚན་དཔེའི་སྐུ། །

ten khé ngurmik dzinpé tsenpé ku

Stable and knowledgeable,³ upholding the monastic vows of the saffron robed, your body bears the major and minor marks.

ལྗགས་འདབ་པད་མས་ཆོས་སྒྲ་ཐོགས་མེད་གསུང་། །

jak dab pemé chö dra tokmé sung

Your speech, flowing from the lotus petals of your tongue, is the sound of Dharma, unimpeded.

ཤེས་བྱ་ཀུན་མངའ་བསྟན་འཛིན་རྡོ་རྗེའི་ཐུགས། །

sheja kün nga tendzin dorjé tuk

You hold the teachings, as your vajra mind masters all that there is to know.

གསང་གསུམ་ཚེ་མཐའ་ཡས་ངོར་རྟག་བརྟན་གསོལ། །

sang sum tsé tayé ngor takten sol

With these three secrets, may you remain forever, endowed with limitless life!

མདོར་ན་རིས་བྲལ་ལྟ་སྤྱོད་གཙང་མའི་རྒྱན། །

dorna ridral tachö tsangmé gyen

With your view free of any bias and your conduct immaculate,

ཐུབ་བསྟན་སྤྱི་དང་སྔ་འགྱུར་རིང་ལུགས་ཀྱི། །

tubten chi dang ngagyur ringluk kyi

You serve like a doctor for beings and for Buddha’s entire teaching,

བསྟན་འགྲོར་སྨན་པའི་བཞེད་པ་ཇི་སྙེད་ཀུན། །

ten dror menpé zhepa jinyé kün

Especially the long tradition of the Early Translations.

མཁའ་ལྟར་ཀུན་ཁྱབ་ཕྲིན་ལས་མཐར་ཕྱིན་ཤོག །

kha tar künkhyab trinlé tarchin shok

May your enlightened activity find ultimate perfection and pervade the universe!

དེ་ལྟར་གསོལ་བཏབ་སྨོན་པའི་རེ་འབྲས་ཅན། །

detar soltab mönpé ré drechen

May this prayer and aspiration of ours be fulfilled,

ཆོས་ཅན་ཆོས་ཉིད་ལྷག་བསམ་བདེན་སྟོབས་ལ། །

chöchen chönyi lhaksam den tob la

And through the power of truth of all phenomena and of their nature, along with our exceptional pure motivation,

ཡེ་ཤེས་སྤྱན་ལྡན་སྲུང་མས་གྲོགས་མཛད་དེ། །

yeshe chenden sungmé drok dzé dé

May the protectors, who possess the eye of wisdom, be our allies,

གེགས་མེད་ལྷུན་གྲུབ་བཀྲ་ཤིས་དཔལ་འབར་ཤོག །

gekmé lhündrub tashi palbar shok

May our wishes be unhindered and spontaneously come to be, and may everything blaze in splendour and auspiciousness!

ཅེས་སྔ་འགྱུར་བསྟན་པའི་སྣང་བྱེད་སྤྲུལ་སྐུ་རིན་པོ་ཆེ་རིག་འཛིན་པདྨ་བསྟན་འཛིན་རྡོ་རྗེའི་བརྟན་བཞུགས་གསོལ་འདེབས་འཆི་མེད་རྔ་སྒྲ་ཞེས་པ་འདི་ནི་གང་གི་སློབ་འབངས་གྲྭ་ཨོ་རྒྱན་སོགས་ནས་ལྷ་རྫས་རྟེན་དང་། ཁྱད་པར་ཆོས་གོས་ཀྱི་གོང་རྟགས་བཟང་གོས་འཁོར་ལོའི་རི་མོ་ཅན་དང་བཅས་ནན་ཏན་ཆེན་པོས་བསྐུལ་བ་དང་། རང་ཉིད་ཀྱང་གང་ལས་ཆོས་ཀྱི་བདུད་རྩིའི་འབྲེལ་པ་ཐོགས་པའི་བཀའ་དྲིན་དྲན་བཞིན་པ་དང་བཅས་དང་བས་ཀུན་ནས་བླངས་ཏེ། ཤཱཀྱའི་དགེ་སྦྱོང་འཁྲུལ་ཞིག་ངག་དབང་ཆོས་ཀྱི་བློ་གྲོས་སུ་འབོད་པས་རྟེན་འབྱུང་སླད་ཚེ་བྲག་མཱ་ར་ཏི་ཀའི་འཆི་མེད་རྟགས་བསྟན་ཆོས་གླིང་དུ། ཤིང་སྤྲེལ་སྣོན་ཟླའི་དཀར་ཕྱོགས་དགའ་བ་གསུམ་པའི་ཉིན་བྲིས་ཏེ་ཕུལ་ཛཡནྟུ།། །།

This prayer for the long life of Tulku Rinpoche Rigdzin Pema Tendzin Dorje, the illuminator of the Teachings of the Early Translation school, called The Sound of the Drum of Immortality, was written by me, the Buddhist monk Trulshik Ngawang Chökyi Lodrö, at the fervent request of his students, the monks Orgyen and others, accompanied by offerings of divine substances, and in particular some excellent Dharma robes with patterns of wheels on them. As for myself as well, I remember fondly my connection to him and his kindness of granting me the nectar of the Dharma. Therefore, while I was residing at the monastery of Chimé Takten Chöling at the Māratika Longevity Cave, I wrote and presented this text with pure intention on the 11th day of the Jyeṣṭha (fifth) month of the Wood Monkey year.⁴ Jayantu!
