༄༅། །ཀུན་མཁྱེན་གོ་རམས་པ་བསོད་ནམས་སེང་གེ་ལ་བསྟོད་པ་དབྱངས་ཀྱི་འབྲུག་སྒྲ་ཞེས་བྱ་བ་བཞུགས།

Thunderous Melody

In Praise of the Omniscient Gorampa Sonam Senge

ན་མོ་གུ་རུ་སརྦ་ཛྙཱ་པུཎྱེ་སེང་ཧ་ཡེ།

Namo guru sarvajñā-punye-siṃhāya¹

 

བདེ་བར་གཤེགས་པའི་བསྟན་པའི་མཛོད་འཛིན་པ། །

dewar shekpé tenpé dzö dzinpa

Holder of the treasury of the sugatas’ teachings,

ཡེ་ཤེས་གཏེར་ཆེན་དབང་ཕྱུག་བརྒྱད་ལྡན་དཔལ། །

yeshe terchen wangchuk gyé den pal

Great mine of wisdom, splendid in eightfold mastery,

སྨྲ་བའི་སེང་གེ་མཉམ་མེད་ཆེན་པོ་ལ། །

mawé sengé nyammé chenpo la

Magnificent and incomparable lion of speech—

རབ་དང་ཡིད་ཀྱི་གུས་པས་བསྟོད་པར་བགྱི། །

rab dang yi kyi güpé töpar gyi

In utmost inspiration and devotion, I praise you!

 

བསྐལ་པ་རྒྱ་མཚོར་བྱང་ཆུབ་སྤྱོད་པ་ཡི། །

kalpa gyatsor changchub chöpa yi

Throughout the course of oceanic aeons, you travelled to the distant shore

ཕ་མཐར་སོན་པས་སྒྲིབ་གཉིས་མུན་པ་སངས། །

patar sönpé drib nyi münpa sang

Of enlightened action, dispelled the darkness of the two obscurations,

རྟོགས་པའི་ཡོན་ཏན་འོད་ཟེར་སྟོང་གིས་མཛེས། །

tokpé yönten özer tong gi dzé

And gained the radiant splendour of the qualities of realization.

འཇམ་པའི་དཔལ་དང་གཉིས་སུ་མེད་པ་གང་། །

jampé pal dang nyisumepa gang

You who are inseparable from Mañjuśrī,

གཞོན་ནུའི་དུས་ནས་ཡོན་ཏན་ཐམས་ཅད་རྫོགས། །

zhönnü dü né yönten tamché dzok

Beginning in your youth, you perfected all the qualities,

མཁས་པའི་གྲྭར་ཞུགས་ཆོས་ཀྱི་ལུས་སྟོབས་རྒྱས། །

khepé drar zhuk chö kyi lü tob gyé

And, entering the ranks of the learned, developed Dharma’s strength.

ལུང་དང་རིགས་པའི་རྒྱན་ཆས་རྣམ་པར་སྒེག །

lung dang rikpé gyenché nampar gek

Captivating with your adornments of scripture and reasoning,

སྡེ་སྣོད་གསུམ་གྱི་གླེགས་བམ་ཕུང་པོ་ཆེ། །

denö sum gyi lekbam pungpo ché

You mastered an abundance of texts from the three collections,

ཀུན་མཁྱེན་ཀུན་ལ་དབང་བསྒྱུར་རབ་འབྱམས་པ། །

künkhyen kün la wanggyur rabjam pa

And became a scholar of vast learning and universal knowledge.

ཁྲོ་རྒྱལ་མི་གཡོ་མགོན་དང་དབྱེར་མི་ཕྱེད། །

trogyal miyo gön dang yer miché

Inseparable from Acala, king of the wrathful,

འཇམ་པའི་དབྱངས་ཀྱིས་ཕྱག་གི་རལ་གྲི་ནི། །

jampé yang kyi chak gi raldri ni

You brandished the sword of Mañjughoṣa,

འཕྱར་བས་མཁའ་དབྱིངས་ཁྱབ་པའི་འོད་ཀྱིས་བཀང་། །

charwé khaying khyabpé ö kyi kang

Filling the entire expanse of space with light.

རྒྱལ་བས་ལུང་ཐོབ་ཀུན་དགའི་མཚན་ཅན་གྱི། །

gyalwé lung tob kün gé tsenchen gyi

You received the buddhas’ prophecy and became a heart-son

ཐུགས་ཀྱི་སྲས་གྱུར་ཨེ་ཝཾ་ཁྲིར་བཞུགས་ཤིང་། །

tuk kyi sé gyur ewam trir zhuk shing

Of the one named Kunga,² and then you sat upon the Evaṃ throne.³

ཐུབ་བསྟན་རྣམ་པར་རྒྱལ་བའི་ཆོས་གྲྭ་ཆེ། །

tubten nampar gyalwé chö dra ché

Your great dharma centre of Tubten Namgyal⁴

ངོ་མཚར་སུམ་རྩེན་གནས་ལ་ཅོ་འདྲི་བ། །

ngotsar sum tsen né la cho driwa

Was a wonder to rival the heavenly palace of the three great devas,

མཁས་མང་འདུས་པ་རྒྱ་མཚོས་ཡོངས་སུ་གཏམས། །

khé mang düpa gyatsö yongsu tam

A place where vast crowds of learned scholars thronged.

ཐུབ་དབང་གཉིས་པའི་བརྟུལ་ཞུགས་འཆང་བ་པོ། །

tubwang nyipé tulzhuk changwa po

Upholder of the discipline of the second Lord of Sages,

ས་སྐྱའི་རྗེ་བཙུན་གོང་མའི་བཞེད་གཞུང་རྣམས། །

sakyé jetsün gongmé zhé zhung nam

When the approach and exegesis of the Sakya patriarchs

སྣ་ཚོགས་བློ་ཡིས་རྙོགས་པར་གྱུར་པ་ན། །

natsok lo yi nyokpar gyurpa na

Had become sullied by assorted opinions and assertions,

བགྲུང་བྱེད་ཆུ་དྭངས་ནོར་བུ་ཁྱེད་གཅིག་པུ། །

drung jé chu dang norbu khyé chikpu

You alone functioned as a cleansing jewel to bring purity.

བསྟན་པའི་མཆོད་སྡོང་སྲིད་ཞིའི་བླ་ན་མཐོ། །

tenpé chö dong sizhi lana to

An offering pillar of the teachings, pre-eminent in existence and peace.

མ་རྟོག་པ་དང་ལོག་རྟོག་ཕྱོགས་རྟོག་གིས། །

matokpa dang loktok chok tok gi

When your own and others’ sides were unsettled

བློ་ཡིད་འཁྲུག་པར་གྱུར་པའི་རང་གཞན་སྡེ། །

lo yi trukpar gyurpé rangzhen dé

By incomprehension, misunderstanding and partial knowledge,

མཁྱེན་རབ་དཔྱོད་ཤེས་ནོར་བུའི་གློག་ཕྲེང་གིས། །

khyenrab chö shé norbü lok treng gi

You brought clarity through your gem-like wisdom and analysis,

གསལ་བར་མཛད་ནས་ཡང་དག་འོད་སྣང་བརྡལ། །

salwar dzé né yangdak ö nang dal

And the light of genuine understanding shone.

མདོ་དང་སྔགས་ཀྱི་ལེགས་བཤད་ནོར་བུའི་སྒྲོམ། །

do dang ngak kyi lekshé norbü drom

The jewel-casket of your superb explanations of sūtra and mantra

སྙིགས་དུས་མཁས་པ་རྣམས་ཀྱི་སྙིང་གི་གཏེར། །

nyikdü khepa nam kyi nying gi ter

Is a heart treasure of the learned in this degenerate age.

བླ་མ་འཇམ་པའི་དབྱངས་ཀྱི་རྗེས་སུ་བཟུང་། །

lama jampé yang kyi jesu zung

You were cared for by the guru Mañjughoṣa,

ཡི་དམ་ལྷ་ཡི་བསྐྱེད་རྫོགས་གྲུབ་པ་བརྙེས། །

yidam lha yi kyedzok drubpa nyé

And gained accomplishment through generation and completion of the yidam deity.

མཁའ་འགྲོ་ཆོས་སྐྱོང་པདྨའི་ཚལ་དུ་ནི། །

khandro chökyong pemé tsal du ni

You attracted ḍākinīs and dharmapālas, who gathered like bees in a lotus garden,

བུང་བ་བཞིན་དུ་རྟག་པར་འདུ་ཞིང་འཁོར། །

bungwa zhindu takpar du zhing khor

And became your constant companions.

མཁས་པ་མཁས་པའི་ཁྱུ་མཆོག་གོ་རམས་པ། །

khepa khepé khyuchok gorampa

Learned—you were supreme among the learned, Gorampa,

བཙུན་པ་བཙུན་པའི་དཔལ་གྱིས་མངོན་པར་མཐོ། །

tsünpa tsünpé pal gyi ngönpar to

Dignified—you were exalted with the splendour of dignity,

བཟང་པོ་བཟང་པོའི་ཕྲིན་ལས་ཕྱོགས་བརྒྱར་སྤེལ། །

zangpo zangpö trinlé chok gyar pel

Noble—your noble activity spread in a hundred directions—

ཀུན་མཁྱེན་བསོད་ནམས་སེང་གེར་གྲགས་ལ་བསྟོད། །

künkhyen sönam sengér drak la tö

To the one renowned as omniscient Sonam Senge, I offer praise!

 

བདག་ནི་ཁྱེད་ལ་གསོལ་བ་བཏབ་པའི་མཐུས། །

dak ni khyé la solwa tabpé tü

Through the force of these, my prayers to you,

འཇིགས་མེད་བློ་གྲོས་སྤོབས་པའི་རྩལ་ཆེན་རྫོགས། །

jikme lodrö pobpé tsal chen dzok

May I perfect the great strength of intellectual confidence and fearlessness,

ཟབ་རྒྱས་གནས་ལ་ཆགས་ཐོགས་མེད་པ་ཡི། །

zabgyé né la chaktok mepa yi

And may the light of twofold wisdom blaze,

མཁྱེན་གཉིས་ཡེ་ཤེས་སྣང་བ་འབར་གྱུར་ཅིག །

khyen nyi yeshe nangwa bar gyur chik

Unimpeded in realization of the profound and vast!

 

ཅེས་པའང་ས་ཁྱི་ཟླ་གཉིས་ཚེས་ཉི་ཤུ་ལ་རྗེ་དེ་ཉིད་ཡུལ་དུ་ལྷང་ངེར་འཆར་བའི་རྐྱེན་གྱིས་དད་པའི་རྦ་རླབས་དབང་མེད་དུ་གཡོས་པ་ལས་བྱུང་བའི་བསྟོད་ཚིག་གི་ཕྲེང་བ་འདི་ཡང་གཙུག་ལག་ལུང་རིགས་ཉི་མས་འབྲས་ལྗོངས་སུ་བྲིས་པའོ།། །།

This garland of praise was written in Sikkim on the twentieth day of the second month of the Earth Dog year (1958) by Tsuklak Lungrik Nyima, when the thought of this master sprung vividly to mind, bringing an uncontrollable surge of devotion.
