A Prayer for the Long Life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama

ཨོཾ་སྭ་སྟི།

om svasti

Oṃ svasti!

ངག་ལ་དབང་བསྒྱུར་ཤེས་བྱ་ཐམས་ཅད་མཁྱེན། །

ngak la wanggyur sheja tamché khyen

Powerful in speech, you know all that is to be known,

བློ་བཟང་རྒྱལ་བའི་རིང་ལུགས་ཉིན་མོར་བྱེད། །

lo zang gyalwé ringluk nyinmor jé

And, like the sun, light up the victorious Lobzang Drakpa’s tradition,

གངས་ཅན་བསྟན་འཛིན་རྒྱ་མཚོའི་གཙུག་རྒྱན་མཆོག །

gangchen tendzin gyatsö tsukgyen chok

Supreme crown jewel amidst all the infinite holders of the teachings in this snowy land—

ཞབས་པད་སྲིད་མཐའི་བར་དུ་བཞུགས་གསོལ་འདེབས། །

zhabpé si té bardu zhuk soldeb

I pray that your life may be secure until the very end of existence!

དམ་པའི་ཚུལ་དགུས་ཡོན་ཏན་དབང་འབྱོར་ཞིང༌། །

dampé tsul gü yönten wangjor zhing

Master of virtuous qualities and the nine ways of the saintly,

འཕགས་ནོར་རིན་ཆེན་བདུན་གྱིས་མངོན་པར་མཐོ། །

pak nor rinchen dün gyi ngönpar to

Pre-eminent through the seven riches of the noble ones,

ཆོས་ཀྱི་རྒྱལ་པོ་སྲིད་གསུམ་དབང་བསྒྱུར་བ། །

chö kyi gyalpo si sum wang gyurwa

King of Dharma, with authority over the three planes of existence,

འཛམ་གླིང་བསྟན་པའི་བདག་པོ་ཞབས་བརྟན་གསོལ། །

dzamling tenpé dakpo zhabten sol

Master of all that is taught in this world—I pray that your life may be secure!

འགྲོ་བའི་བླ་མ་མཚུངས་པ་མེད་པའི་མགོན། །

drowé lama tsungpa mepé gön

Guide to all wandering beings, protector without equal,

མཆོག་གི་གསང་གསུམ་གཟི་བརྗིད་རབ་འཕྲོ་བས། །

chok gi sang sum ziji rab trowé

Through the radiant splendour of your supreme secret body, speech and mind,

ཆོས་ནོར་འདོད་ཐར་སྡེ་བཞིའི་དཔལ་ཡོན་རྒྱས། །

chö nor dö tar dé zhi palyön gyé

May the glory of the four aspects of well-being—worldly values, wealth, pleasure and liberation—increase,

བསྟན་པ་རིན་ཆེན་དར་ཞིང་རྒྱས་པར་ཤོག །

tenpa rinchen dar zhing gyepar shok

And may the precious teachings flourish and spread far and wide!

ཅེས་པའང་སྒྲུབ་གནས་གཡའ་མ་ལུང་དུ་འཆི་མེད་རིག་འཛིན་འདུས་པའི་ཚེ་སྒྲུབ་བདུད་རྩི་བུམ་བཅུད་ཀྱི་དཀྱིལ་འཁོར་གྱི་ཆོ་ག་དང་འབྲེལ་བར་མཆོད་ཚོགས་རྒྱས་པར་སྤྲོ་ཏེ་ཞབས་བརྟན་ཚེ་སྒྲུབ་སྐབས་༧རྒྱལ་མཆོག་ཆེན་པོའི་ཐུགས་རྗེའི་གྲིབ་བསིལ་དུ་འཁོད་པ་འཇམ་དབྱངས་ཆོས་ཀྱི་བློ་གྲོས་པས་གསོལ་བ་བཏབ་བཞིན་བྲིས་པ་དེ་བཞིན་འགྲུབ་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་བརླབ་ཏུ་གསོལ།། སརྦ་དཱ་མངྒ་ལཾ།།

While performing an elaborate offering as part of the maṇḍala ritual for the long-life practice of Rigdzin Düpa, The Vase Nectar of Deathless Elixir, in the sacred place of Yamalung, this was written by Jamyang Chökyi Lodrö, who lives in the cooling compassionate shade of this great and victorious master. May it be blessed so that it comes true, just as I have prayed! Sarvadā maṅgalaṃ!
