Amoghapāśa Dhāraṇī Recitation Method

༄༅། །སྤྱན་རས་གཟིགས་དོན་ཡོད་ཞགས་པའི་གཟུངས་བཀླག་ཐབས་བཞུགས།  །

A Method for Reciting the Dhāraṇī of Amoghapāśa

སངས་རྒྱས་ཆོས་ཚོགས་སོགས་སྐྱབས་སེམས་དང་།

Take refuge and generate bodhicitta with:

སངས་རྒྱས་ཆོས་དང་ཚོགས་ཀྱི་མཆོག་རྣམས་ལ། །

sangye chö dang tsok kyi chok nam la

In the Buddha, the Dharma and the Supreme Assembly

བྱང་ཆུབ་བར་དུ་བདག་ནི་སྐྱབས་སུ་མཆི། །

changchub bardu dak ni kyab su chi

I take refuge until I attain enlightenment.

བདག་གི་སྦྱིན་སོགས་བགྱིས་པའི་བསོད་ནམས་ཀྱིས། །

dak gi jin sok gyipé sönam kyi

Through the merit of practising generosity and so on,

འགྲོ་ལ་ཕན་ཕྱིར་སངས་རྒྱས་འགྲུབ་པར་ཤོག །

dro la pen chir sangye drubpar shok

May I attain buddhahood for the benefit of all beings.

སེམས་ཅན་ཐམས་ཅད་བདེ་བ་དང་སོགས་ཚད་མེད་བཞི་བསྒོམ།

And cultivate the four immeasurables:

སེམས་ཅན་ཐམས་ཅད་བདེ་བ་དང་བདེ་བའི་རྒྱུ་དང་ལྡན་པར་གྱུར་ཅིག

semchen tamché dewa dang dewé gyu dang denpar gyur chik

May all sentient beings enjoy happiness and the causes of happiness!

སྡུག་བསྔལ་དང་སྡུག་བསྔལ་གྱི་རྒྱུ་དང་བྲལ་བར་གྱུར་ཅིག

dukngal dang dukngal gyi gyu dang dralwar gyur chik

May they be free from suffering and the causes of suffering!

སྡུག་བསྔལ་མེད་པའི་བདེ་བ་དང་མི་འབྲལ་བར་གྱུར་ཅིག

dukngal mepé dewa dang mindralwar gyur chik

May they never be separated from the sacred happiness devoid of suffering!

ཉེ་རིང་ཆགས་སྡང་གཉིས་དང་བྲལ་བའི་བཏང་སྙོམ་ཚད་མེད་པ་ལ་གནས་པར་གྱུར་ཅིག

nyering chakdang nyi dang dralwé tang nyom tsemepa la nepar gyur chik

And may they dwell in boundless equanimity that is free from attachment and aversion!

རང་གཞན་སེམས་ཅན་ཐམས་ཅད་ཀྱི་སྤྱི་བོར་པདྨ་དམར་པོ་འདབ་མ་རྒྱས་པའི་སྟེང་དུ་བླ་མ་འཕགས་པ་སྤྱན་རས་གཟིགས་དོན་ཡོད་ཞགས་པ་སྐུ་མདོག་དམར་པོ་ཞལ་གཅིག་ཕྱག་བཞི་པ།

rangzhen semchen tamché kyi chiwor pema marpo dab magyepé tengdu lama pakpa chenrezik dön yö zhakpa kudok marpo zhal chik chakzhipa

Above my own and others’ crowns, upon a red lotus, is the guru noble Avalokiteśvara Amoghapāśa, red in colour, with one face and four hands.

གཡས་གཉིས་ན་ཞགས་པ་དང་རྡོ་རྗེ།

yé nyi na zhakpa dang dorjé

His two right hands hold a lasso and vajra,

གཡོན་གཉིས་ན་ལྕག་ཀྱུ་དང་འཕྲེང་བ་འཛིན་པ།

yön nyi na chak kyu dang trengwa dzinpa

And the two left hands hold a hook and rosary.

རྒྱན་དམར་པོ་དང་སྟོད་གཡོག་གསོལ་བ།

gyen marpo dang tö yok solwa

He wears red ornaments and an upper garment.

ཞབས་གཉིས་མཉམ་པར་བཞེངས་པར་གསལ་བའི་ཐུགས་ཀར་ཟླ་དཀྱིལ་སྟེང་དུ་ཧྲཱིཿཡིག་གི་མཐར་གཟུངས་སྔགས་ཀྱི་ཕྲེང་བས་བསྐོར་བ་ལས་བདུད་རྩིའི་རྒྱུན་བབས་རང་གཞན་སེམས་ཅན་ཐམས་ཅད་ཀྱི་སྤྱི་གཙུག་ནས་ཞུགས་པས།  ལས་ཉོན་སྡིག་སྒྲིབ།  ནད་གདོན་བར་བཅོད་ཐམས་ཅད་བསྐྲུས་ཤིང་དག་པ་དང་།  སངས་རྒྱས་ཐམས་ཅད་ཀྱི་བྱིན་རླབས་དང་དངོས་གྲུབ་ཐམས་ཅད་ཐོབ་པར་གྱུར་པར་བསམ།

zhab nyi nyampar zhengpar salwé tukkar da kyil tengdu hrih yik gi tar zung ngak kyi trengwé korwa lé dütsi gyün bab rangzhen semchen tamché kyi chitsuk né zhukpé lé nyön dikdrib nedön bar chö tamché trü shing dakpa dang sangye tamché kyi jinlab dang ngödrub tamché tobpar gyurpar sam

He stands with his two feet evenly poised, and at his heart upon a moon-disc is a syllable hrīḥ, around which the mantra-garland revolves, creating a flow of nectar, which enters my own and all other beings’ crowns, cleansing and purifying all karma, afflictive emotions, misdeeds and obscurations, as well as sickness, harmful influences and obstacles, and bringing all the blessings and attainments of all the buddhas.

གཟུངས་རིང་ཚར་གང་འགྲོ་དང་།  གཟུངས་ཐུང་གྲངས་ཅི་ནུས་ཟླ།  མཐར།

Recite the longer dhāraṇī and the shorter dhāraṇī as many times as possible. Then at the end, continue with:

བླ་མ་ཐུགས་རྗེ་ཆེན་པོ་དོན་ཡོད་ཞགས་པས་བདག་དང་སེམས་ཅན་ཐམས་ཅད་ཀྱི་སྡིག་པ་དང་སྒྲིབ་པ་ཐམས་ཅད་བྱང་ཞིང་དག་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་བརླབ་ཏུ་གསོལ།

lama tukjé chenpo dön yö zhakpé dak dang semchen tamché kyi dikpa dang dribpa tamché jang zhing dakpar jingyi lab tu sol

Guru, Great Compassionate One, Amoghapāśa, bless me and all sentient beings that all our misdeeds and obscurations may be cleansed and purified.

ཞེས་གསོལ་བ་བཏབ་པས་བླ་མ་དོན་ཡོད་ཞགས་པ་འོད་དུ་ཞུ་ནས་རང་ལ་ཐིམ་པར་གྱུར་པར་བསམ་ལ་གནས་ལུགས་ཀྱི་ངང་དུ་མཉམ་པར་བཞག་གོ།

zhé solwa tabpé lama dön yö zhakpa ö du zhu né rang la timpar gyur

Through this prayer, the Guru Amoghapāśa melts into light and dissolves into me.

Consider this and rest evenly in an experience of the natural state.

མཐར་དགེ་བ་བསྔོ་བ་སོགས་དཀྱུས་ལྟར་བྱའོ།  །

Finally dedicate the merit and so on in the usual way.

ཞེས་པའང་དགེ་རྟགས་མཆོག་སྤྲུལ་ནས་བསྐུལ་ངོར་ཆོས་ཀྱི་བློ་གྲོས་པས་སོ།།   །།
