༄༅། །སྦོམ་ལྟུང་ཡན་ལག་བརྒྱད་པ།

Confession of the Eight Branch Infractions and Downfalls

based on the writings of Mañjuśrīkīrti

རབ་དུ་བདེ་བ་འཕྲོག་པར་བྱེད། །

The following rob you of all happiness.¹

དམ་ཚིག་དག་དང་མི་ལྡན་པར། །

damtsik dak dang mi denpar

Experiencing pleasure with a consort

རིག་མ་བསྟེན་པར་དགའ་བ་ནི། །

rik matenpar gawa ni

Who lacks samaya commitments

ཡན་ལག་ཉེས་པ་དང་པོ་ཡིན། །

yenlak nyepa dangpo yin

Is the first branch downfall.

དང་པོ་ཕོག་པ་མཐོལ་ལོ་བཤགས། །

dangpo pokpa tol lo shak

I openly admit and confess breaches of this first kind.

ཚོགས་ཀྱི་འཁོར་ལོར་བརྩོད་པ་ནི། །

tsok kyi khorlor tsöpa ni

To quarrel in the gaṇacakra

ཡན་ལག་ཉེས་པ་གཉིས་པ་ཡིན། །

yenlak nyepa nyipa yin

Is the second branch downfall.

གཉིས་པ་ཕོག་པ་མཐོལ་ལོ་བཤགས། །

nyipa pokpa tol lo shak

I openly admit and confess breaches of this second kind.

མ་གསུངས་པ་ཡི་རིག་མ་ལས། །

masungpa yi rik ma lé

For a mantrin to obtain the nectar

སྔགས་པས་བདུད་རྩི་འཐོབ་བྱེད་པ། །

ngakpé dütsi tob jepa

From an unqualified consort

ཡན་ལག་ཉེ་པ་གསུམ་པ་ཡིན། །

yenlak nyepa sumpa yin

Is the third branch downfall.

གསུམ་པ་ཕོག་པ་མཐོལ་ལོ་བཤགས། །

sumpa pokpa tol lo shak

I openly admit and confess breaches of this third kind.

གསང་ཆོས་ཡན་ལག་ཤེས་གྱུར་ཀྱང་། །

sang chö yenlak shé gyur kyang

While knowledgable about the elements of secret Dharma,

གཞན་ལ་མི་སྟོན་ཤེས་རབ་ངན། །

zhen la mi tön sherab ngen

To refrain from teaching it to others is a failure of wisdom.

ཡན་ལག་ཉེས་པ་བཞི་པ་ཡིན། །

yenlak nyepa zhipa yin

It is the fourth branch downfall.

བཞི་པ་ཕོག་པ་མཐོལ་ལོ་བཤགས། །

zhipa pokpa tol lo shak

I openly admit and confess breaches of this fourth kind.

དད་པས་སེམས་ཅན་ཆོས་ཀྱི་རྒྱུ། །

depé semchen chö kyi gyu

To mislead sincere students seeking the Dharma

གཞན་གྱི་གཏམ་བྱེད་བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས། །

zhen gyi tam jé changchub sem

By discussing topics other than bodhicitta

ཡན་ལག་ཉེས་པ་ལྔ་པ་ཡིན། །

yenlak nyepa ngapa yin

Is the fifth branch downfall.

ལྔ་པ་ཕོག་པ་མཐོལ་ལོ་བཤགས། །

ngapa pokpa tol lo shak

I openly admit and confess breaches of this fifth kind.

ཉན་ཐོས་ནང་དུ་ཞག་བདུན་འདས། །

nyentö nang du zhakdün dé

To stay more than seven days among śrāvakas

ཡན་ལག་ཉེས་པ་དྲུག་པ་ཡིན། །

yenlak nyepa drukpa yin

Is the sixth branch downfall.

དྲུག་པ་ཕོག་པ་མཐོལ་ལོ་བཤགས། །

drukpa pokpa tol lo shak

I openly admit and confess breaches of this sixth kind.

རྣལ་འབྱོར་ཡེ་ཤེས་མི་ཤེས་པར། །

naljor yeshe mishepar

While not knowing the primordial wisdom of yoga,

ང་ནི་སྔགས་པ་ཡིན་ཟེར་བ། །

nga ni ngakpa yin zerwa

To proclaim oneself a mantrin

ཡན་ལག་ཉེས་པ་བདུན་པ་ཡིན། །

yenlak nyepa dünpa yin

Is the seventh branch downfall.

བདུན་པ་ཕོག་པ་མཐོལ་ལོ་བཤགས། །

dünpa pokpa tol lo shak

I openly admit and confess breaches of this seventh kind.

སྣོད་མིན་སེམས་ཅན་ཐམས་ཅད་ལ། །

nömin semchen tamché la

To explain the secret meaning

ཕྱི་ཡི་ཆོས་བཤད་ཡིན་པ་ལ། །

chi yi chö shé yinpa la

While teaching the outer Dharma,

གསང་བའི་དོན་རྣམས་འཆད་པ་ནི། །

sangwé dön nam chepa ni

To anyone who is not a suitable recipient—

ཡན་ལག་ཉེས་པ་བརྒྱད་པ་ཡིན། །

yenlak nyepa gyepa yin

This is the eighth branch downfall.

བརྒྱད་པ་ཕོག་པ་མཐོལ་ལོ་བཤགས། །

gyepa pokpa tol lo shak

I openly admit and confess breaches of this eighth kind.

ཞེས་པ་ནི་རྒྱུད་ལས་སོ། །དགེའོ།།
