Translations by Sergio Orrao

Sergio Orrao (born in 1963 in Italy) met his teacher Geshe Champa Lodrö in 1994 in a small village near Ventimiglia, in Liguria, in the western corner of Italy; after meeting him, he founded a Buddhist study centre in the town, the Kalachakra Study Centre. Following his guru’s Rimé instructions, he invited Tibetan masters—including renowned Gelug masters residing in northern Italy, such as Geshe Tenzin Gonpo, Thamthog Rinpoche, Geshe Yeshe Tobten and Geshe Champa Ghyatso, as well as others visiting Italy during their international tours, such as Kyabge Ribur Rinpoche. (The centre also hosts masters of the Kagyu tradition, as well as the Vietnamese, Cambodian, and Japanese Zen traditions.) A translator of nearly 125 published works, mostly concerning the Dharma, of all traditions in the world, Sergio is currently translating Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche’s commentaries on the masterpieces of the most renowned Nyingma practitioners (translated by his mentor and friend Matthieu Ricard from Tibetan into French and English) and books by Matthieu Ricard himself.

Sergio Orrao (nato nel 1963 in Italia) incontrò il suo maestro Geshe Champa Lodrö nel 1994 in un piccolo paese vicino a Ventimiglia, in Liguria, all’estremità occidentale dell’Italia; dopo averlo conosciuto, fondò nella città un centro di studi buddisti, il Centro Studi Kalachakra. Seguendo le istruzioni Rimé del suo guru, ha invitato maestri tibetani — tra cui i più rinomati maestri Gelug residenti nel nord Italia: Geshe Tenzin Gonpo, Thamthog Rinpoche, Geshe Yesce Tobten, Geshe Cianmpa Ghyatso — così come altri in visita in Italia durante i loro tour internazionali, come Kyabge Ribur Rinpoche. Ma il centro ha ospitato anche maestri della tradizione Kagyu, nonché delle tradizioni Zen vietnamita, cambogiana e giapponese. Traduttore di circa 125 opere pubblicate, per lo più riguardanti il Dharma, di tutte le tradizioni del mondo, Sergio sta attualmente traducendo i commenti di Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche sui capolavori dei più rinomati praticanti Nyingma (tradotti dal tibetano al francese e all’inglese dal suo mentore e amico Matthieu Ricard) e i libri dello stesso Matthieu Ricard.
