A Prayer to the Sacred Vajra Sanctuary of Māratika1

by Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche

dorjé lama pema sam bhawa

Vajra Guru Padmasambhava

dorjé kyechi mepé kurzhengpé

Manifested the deathless vajra form

dorjé né chok chiwa tar jé ché

At the sacred vajra sanctuary of Māratika.

dorjé tsé yi kyilkhor solwa deb

To this maṇḍala of immortal vajra life, I pray.

chitar ri drak men shing jön tsal dzé

Outwardly, a rocky hill adorned with medicinal plants and forests.

nangtar dorjé pungpö tsitté yib

Inwardly, the vajra aggregates, shaped like a heart.

dön la chimé dorjé köpé tsal

In essence, the grove of the Deathless Vajra Array.

rangnang pema drawar solwa deb

To this natural manifestation of the Lotus Net, I pray.

yeshe kuchen lha dang daki zhuk

Here, deities and ḍākinīs dwell in wisdom forms,

tsé dang yeshe yönten tayé zhing

Where life, wisdom, and boundless qualities flourish.

chimé dorjé drongkhyer chenpo la

To this great city of the deathless vajra,

miché dé mögü pé solwa deb

With unwavering faith and devotion, I pray.

küntak tsenmé kyechi trulpa dak

Here, the imputed reality shaped by the illusions of birth and death is purified.

yongdrub pomé dorjé sok tu shar

The immaculate nature, the unchanging vajra life force, dawns.

dakpé zhenwang tiklé chenpö sok

The pure dependent nature radiates as the life force of the great bindu.2

pema tsé tayepa ngöngyur chik

May the state of the Lotus of Boundless Life3 be fully realized.

In response to the offering and request of the devoted practitioner Puṇya Lakṣmi, the wandering monk Maṅgala, while residing at Māratika, composed this prayer for supreme life. May it serve as a cause for all beings to attain the citadel of great bliss, the Blazing Lotus Light.
