ན་མོ་ལོ་ཀེ་ཤྭ་རཱ་ཡ།

Namo lokeśvarāya!

སྐལ་བཟང་གང་ཞིག་བྱང་ཆུབ་ཆེན་པོའི་གོ་འཕང་མྱུར་དུ་ཐོབ་པར་འདོད་པས་སངས་རྒྱས་ཀུན་གྱི་བགྲོད་པ་གཅིག་པའི་ལམ་བླ་མའི་རྣལ་འབྱོར་ལ་བརྩོན་པར་བྱ་སྟེ།  ངེས་འབྱུང་བྱང་སེམས་ཐོག་མ་ཉིད་དུ་རྒྱུད་ལ་བསྐྱེད་ནས།

A fortunate one who wishes to swiftly attain the level of great awakening should strive to practice guru yoga, the single path traversed by all the buddhas. Begin by developing a determination to be free and generating bodhicitta, then continue with:

མདུན་མཁར་རྟེན་བསྐྱེད་པ་ནི།  །

Visualizing the Support in the Space in Front

ཨེ་མ་ཧོ།

དབྱིངས་སྣང་དག་པ་འཇའ་འོད་འཁྲིགས་པའི་ཀློང་།  །

ying nang dakpa ja ö trikpé long

In an expanse of iridescent light, the pure appearance of basic space,

པད་དཀར་ཟླ་བ་རྒྱས་པའི་གདན་སྟེང་དུ།  །

pekar dawa gyepé den tengdu

Upon a white lotus and full moon-disc seat

རྩ་བའི་བླ་མ་ཐུགས་རྗེ་ཆེན་པོའི་སྐུ།  །

tsawé lama tukjé chenpö ku

Is my own root guru in the form of the Great Compassionate One,

སེམས་ཉིད་ངལ་བསོ་གངས་རིའི་མདོག་ལྟར་དཀར།  །

semnyi ngalso gangri dok tar kar

Resting in the Nature of Mind (Semnyi Ngalso), white as a snow-capped mountain,

ཞི་འཛུམ་ཞལ་གཅིག་ཕྱག་གཉིས་གཡས་མཆོག་སྦྱིན།  །

zhi dzum zhal chik chak nyi yé chok jin

Smiling serenely, with one face and two hands, the right in the gesture of supreme generosity

གཡོན་པས་དཀུ་ཡི་སྟ་ཟུར་གདན་ལ་བཀབ།  །

yönpé ku yi ta zur den la kab

And the left placed on the seat at his hip.

མཐེབ་མཛུབ་བར་ནས་པད་དཀར་སྡོང་བུ་རྒྱས།  །

teb dzubwar né pekar dongbu gyé

Between his thumb and finger he clasps the stem of a white lotus,

སྙན་གཡོན་ཐད་ཀར་འདབ་རྒྱས་ཟེའུ་འབྲུ་རྒོད།  །

nyen yön tekar dab gyé zé'u dru gö

Which blossoms at the level of his left ear.

ལྷ་རྫས་དར་དང་རིན་ཆེན་རྒྱན་ཆ་དང་།  །

lhadzé dar dang rinchen gyencha dang

He wears divine silk garments and jewelled ornaments,

རི་དྭགས་ལྤགས་པས་ནུ་མ་གཡོན་པ་བཀབ།  །

ridak pakpé numa yönpa kab

And the hide of an antelope is draped over his left shoulder to the level of his breast.

དབུ་སྐྲ་ཐོར་ཅོག་སྤྱི་བོར་བཅིངས་པའི་རྩེར།  །

utra tor chok chiwor chingpé tser

His hair is partly tied up at his crown,

ནོར་བུ་རིན་ཆེན་ཏོག་གིས་སྤྲས་པ་དང་།  །

norbu rinchen tok gi trepa dang

With the crest of a precious jewel adorning its peak,

ལྷག་མ་སིལ་བུར་གྲོལ་ཞིང་གནག་སྣུམ་མཛེས།  །

lhakma silbur drol zhing nak num dzé

While the rest hangs loosely, all glossy and black.

ཞབས་གཉིས་རྟ་བབ་སྐྱིལ་མོ་ཀྲུང་གིས་བཞུགས།  །

zhab nyi ta bab kyilmo trung gi zhuk

He seats in a relaxed posture with his two legs crossed.

གནས་གསུམ་ཡི་གེ་གསུམ་ལས་འོད་འཕྲོས་པས།  །

né sum yigé sum lé ö tröpé

Light emanates from the three syllables at his three centres

རང་བཞིན་གནས་ནས་སྤྱན་དྲངས་གཉིས་མེད་གྱུར།  །

rangzhin né né chendrang nyimé gyur

Inviting the wisdom deities from their natural realm, who then merge in non-duality.

སྐྱབས་ཀུན་འདུས་པའི་བདག་ཉིད་ཆེན་པོར་གསལ།  །

kyab kündüpé daknyi chenpor sal

He is the great embodiment of all sources of refuge, clearly visualized.

Seven-Branch Practice

རྒྱས་པར་བཟང་སྤྱོད་ཀྱི་ཡན་ལག་བདུན་པ་སྦྱར།  །

For a more elaborate practice, add the seven branches from the Aspiration to Good Actions (Zangchö Mönlam).1

ཕྲ་རབ་རྡུལ་གྱི་གྲངས་སྙེད་ལུས་སྤྲུལ་ཏེ།  །

tra rab dul gyi drang nyé lü trul té

Emanating bodies as numerous as atoms,

སྒོ་གསུམ་གུས་པས་རྟག་ཏུ་ཕྱག་འཚལ་ལོ།  །

go sum güpé taktu chaktsal lo

I prostrate continuously with devoted body, speech and mind.

དངོས་སུ་འབྱོར་དང་ཡིད་ལས་བྱུང་བ་ཡི།  །

ngö su jor dang yi lé jungwa yi

Vast clouds of gifts, both real and imagined,

མཆོད་པའི་སྤྲིན་ཆེན་མཁའ་དབྱིངས་ཁྱབ་པར་མཆོད།  །

chöpé trin chen khaying khyabpar chö

And filling the whole expanse of space, I offer.

ཐོག་མེད་བསགས་པའི་སྡིག་སྒྲིབ་ཉེས་ལྟུང་ཀུན།  །

tokmé sakpé dikdrib nyetung kün

All my misdeeds, obscurations, faults and downfalls accumulated throughout beginningless time,

གནོང་འགྱོད་དྲག་པོས་མཐོལ་ཞིང་བཤགས་པར་བགྱི།  །

nonggyö drakpö tol zhing shakpar gyi

I openly admit and confess with intense sorrow and remorse.

འཁོར་འདས་ལམ་གྱིས་བསྡུས་པའི་དགེ་རྩ་ལ།  །

khordé lam gyi düpé getsa la

In all sources of virtue belonging to saṃsāra, nirvāṇa and the path,

དགའ་ཞིང་ཕྲག་དོག་མེད་པར་རྗེས་ཡི་རང་།  །

ga zhing trakdok mepar jé yi rang

I rejoice and take delight without envy.

གདུལ་བྱ་རྣམས་ཀྱི་བློ་དང་འཚམ་པ་ཡི།  །

dulja nam kyi lo dang tsampa yi

In accordance with the temperaments of beings to be trained,

ཟབ་ཅིང་རྒྱ་ཆེའི་ཆོས་འཁོར་བསྐོར་བར་བསྐུལ།  །

zab ching gyaché chökhor korwar kul

Turn the Wheel of Dharma, profound and vast, I implore you.

གང་དག་མྱ་ངན་འདའ་བར་བཞེད་རྣམས་ལ།  །

gangdak nya ngen dawar zhé nam la

To all those who intend to pass into parinirvāṇa,

འགྲོ་སྒྲོལ་སླད་དུ་རྟག་པར་བཞུགས་གསོལ་འདེབས།  །

dro drol ledu takpar zhuk soldeb

I pray: remain forever in order to liberate beings.

དུས་གསུམ་བསགས་པའི་དགེ་བའི་རྩ་བ་ཀུན།  །

dü sum sakpé gewé tsawa kün

All sources of virtue accumulated throughout the three times,

མཁའ་མཉམ་འགྲོ་རྣམས་རྣམ་མཁྱེན་ཐོབ་ཕྱིར་བསྔོ།  །

khanyam dro nam namkhyen tob chir ngo

I dedicate towards infinite beings’ attainment of omniscience.

སྤྲོ་ན་མཎྜལ་རྒྱས་བསྡུས་ཀྱང་སྦྱར།

If you wish, you may add a maṇḍala offering of suitable length.

བདེ་ལྡན་ཞིང་ན་ཆོས་སྐུ་སྣང་མཐའ་ཡས།  །

deden zhing na chöku nang tayé

Dharmakāya Amitābha in the realm of Sukhāvatī,

གྲུ་འཛིན་རི་བོར་ལོངས་སྐུ་སྤྱན་རས་གཟིགས།  །

dru dzin riwor longku chenrezik

Sambhogakāya Avalokiteśvara on Mount Potalaka,

རྔ་ཡབ་དཔལ་རིར་སྤྲུལ་སྐུ་པད་མ་འབྱུང་།  །

ngayab palrir tulku pema jung

Nirmāṇakāya Padmasambhava on Cāmara’s Mountain of Glory,

དབྱེར་མེད་བླ་མ་སེམས་ཉིད་ངལ་བསོ་ལ།  །

yermé lama semnyi ngalso la

Indivisible from the guru, Resting in the Nature of Mind,

སྙིང་ནས་གསོལ་འདེབས་བདག་ལ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་གཟིགས།  །

nying né soldeb dak la tukjé zik

To you I pray from the depths of my heart: look on me with compassion!

བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་གཉིས་འབྱོངས་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས།  །

changchub sem nyi jongpar jingyi lob

Inspire me to master the two kinds of bodhicitta!

ཨོཾ་ཨཱཿམ་ཧཱ་གུ་རུ་ལོ་ཀི་ཤྭ་ར་ཁ་སར་པ་ཎི་སརྦ་སིདྡྷི་ཧཱུྃ།

om ah maha guru lokishwara khasar pani sarwa siddhi hung

oṃ āḥ mahāguru lokeśvara khasarpaṇi sarva siddhi hūṃ

ཞེས་དང་།  མ་ཎི་ཅི་ནུས་བཟླ།  །

Recite this and the maṇi mantra as many times as possible.

བླ་མའི་གནས་གསུམ་རྡོ་རྗེ་གསུམ་མཆོག་ལས།  །

lamé né sum dorjé sum chok lé

From the three supreme vajras at the guru’s three centres,

སྐུ་དང་སྔགས་ཕྲེང་འོད་ཟེར་བདུད་རྩིའི་རྒྱུན།  །

ku dang ngak treng özer dütsi gyün

Forms, mantra garlands, rays of light and flowing nectar

རང་གི་གནས་གསུམ་རིམ་དང་ཅིག་ཅར་ཞུགས།  །

rang gi né sum rim dang chikchar zhuk

Flow into my own three centres, gradually and all at once.

སྒྲིབ་དག་དབང་དང་བྱིན་རླབས་དངོས་གྲུབ་ཐོབ།  །

drib dak wang dang jinlab ngödrub tob

Obscurations are purified, and I receive empowerment, blessings and attainments.

བླ་མའི་སྐུ་ལས་འོད་ཟེར་མཁའ་ཁྱབ་འཕྲོས།  །

lamé ku lé özer khakhyab trö

Rays of light shine from the guru’s form and flood the whole of space.

ཞིང་ཁམས་རབ་འབྱམས་རྒྱ་མཚོ་གསལ་བར་བྱས།  །

zhingkham rabjam gyatso salwar jé

They illuminate the infinite ocean of realms,

འཕགས་མཆོད་བྱིན་བསྡུས་རིགས་དྲུག་སྡུག་བསྔལ་སྦྱངས།  །

pak chö jin dü rik druk dukngal jang

Make offerings to the noble ones, gather their blessings, and purify the sufferings of the six classes of beings.

སྣོད་བཅུད་འཕགས་པའི་ཞིང་དང་སྐུ་རུ་གྱུར།  །

nöchü pakpé zhing dang ku ru gyur

The whole world—environment and inhabitants—becomes the realm and kāya of Noble Avalokiteśvara,

དེ་དག་ཀུན་གྱིས་སྔགས་ཀྱི་སྒྲ་ཆེན་པོ།  །

dedak kün gyi ngak kyi dra chenpo

In which everyone exclaims the great sound of the mantra

བར་མེད་སྒྲོགས་ཤིང་ཐ་མལ་སྒོ་གསུམ་རྣམས།  །

barmé drok shing tamal go sum nam

Continuously without interruption, so that ordinary body, speech and mind

འཕགས་པའི་སྐུ་གསུང་ཐུགས་དང་དབྱེར་མེད་གྱུར།  །

pakpé ku sung tuk dang yermé gyur

Become inseparable from Noble Avalokiteśvara’s body, speech and mind.

ཡི་གེ་དྲུག་པ་ཅི་ནུས་བཟླ།

Recite the six-syllable mantra as many times as possible.

མཐར་ནི་བླ་མ་རང་ཐིམ་དབྱེར་མེད་ངང་།  །

tar ni lama rang tim yermé ngang

At the end, the guru dissolves into me in an experience of indivisibility.

རང་ཉིད་འཕགས་པའི་སྐུ་རུ་གསལ་བ་ཡི།  །

rangnyi pakpé ku ru salwa yi

I appear clearly in the form of Noble Avalokiteśvara,

ཐུགས་ཀར་ཟླ་སྟེང་ཧྲཱིཿམཐར་སྔགས་ཕྲེང་བསྐོར།  །

tukkar da teng hrih tar ngak treng kor

At whose heart, upon a moon, is Hrīḥ, surrounded by the mantra garland,

དེ་ལས་འོད་འཕྲོས་ལུས་ཁེངས་སྡིག་སྒྲིབ་སྦྱངས།  །

dé lé ö trö lü kheng dikdrib jang

From which light streams forth, filling my body and purifying misdeeds and obscurations.

རང་ལུས་བ་སྤུའི་བུ་ག་ཐམས་ཅད་དུ།  །

rang lüwa pü buga tamché du

In every pore of my body,

སངས་རྒྱས་སྲས་དང་བཅས་པ་རབ་བཞུགས་ཏེ།  །

sangye sé dang chepa rab zhuk té

Appear buddhas and their bodhisattva heirs,

མཁའ་ཁྱབ་འགྲོ་བའི་དོན་ཀུན་བྱེད་པར་བསམས།  །

khakhyab drowé dön kün jepar gyur

Accomplishing the welfare of beings throughout the whole of space.

ཡི་གེ་བདུན་མ་བཟླ་བར་བྱའོ།  །

Recite the seven-syllable mantra.2

མཐར་ནི་ལྷར་སྣང་རྟེན་དང་བརྟེན་པར་བཅས།  །

tar ni lhar nang ten dang tenpar ché

Finally, all appearance as the deity, support and supported,

འོད་གསལ་དབྱིངས་ཐིམ་ཆོས་སྐུའི་རང་ཞལ་བལྟ།  །

ösal ying tim chökü rang zhal ta

Dissolves into the space of clear light, and I see the very face of dharmakāya.

སླར་ཡང་འགྲོ་འདུལ་ཐུགས་རྗེའི་སྐུ་རུ་ལྡང་།  །

lar yang drodul tukjé ku ru dang

Then, once again, I arise in the form of the Compassionate Tamer of Beings,

གང་སྣང་སྒྱུ་མ་ལྟ་བུའི་ངང་ནས་སྤྱོད།  །

gang nang gyuma tabü ngang né chö

And act out of an experience of the illusoriness of all that appears,

ཨོཾ་ཨཱཿཧཱུྃ་གིས་གནས་གསུམ་སྲུངས།  །

om ah hung gi né sum sung

My three centres protected by the syllables oṃ, āḥ and hūṃ.

བཟང་སྤྱོད་སྨོན་ལམ་སོགས་བསྔོ་སྨོན་རྒྱས་བསྡུས་ཅི་རིགས་བྱའོ།  །

Recite prayers of dedication and aspiration of an appropriate length, such as the Aspiration to Good Actions (Zangchö Mönlam).

 

ཞེས་པའང་ཨ་མདོ་དྷཱི་ཕུ་ཆོས་རྗེའི་གསོལ་དཔོན་རྒན་པ་ཀླུ་སྒྲུབ་ནས་བསྐུལ་ངོར་འཇམ་དབྱངས་ཆོས་ཀྱི་བློ་གྲོས་པས་གང་ཤར་བྲིས་པ་འདིས་ཀྱང་ཕན་བདེ་བླ་ན་མེད་པའི་རྒྱུར་གྱུར་ཅིག  །སརྦ་དཱ་མངྒ་ལཾ།།    །།

Thus, in response to a request from Ludrup, the elderly steward of Amdo Dhiphu Chöje, Jamyang Chökyi Lodrö wrote down whatever came to mind. May this become a cause for unsurpassable benefit and happiness. Sarvadā maṅgalam!
