The Magical Wish-Fulfilling Tree

A Prayer for the Long Life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama

ཨོཾ་སྭསྟི།

om swasti

Oṃ svasti.

ལྷ་དང་བཅས་པའི་འགྲོ་བ་མཐའ་དག་གིས།    །

lha dang chepé drowa tadak gi

All living beings, even up to and including the gods,

ཞབས་སེན་པདྨོར་གཙུག་གི་ནོར་བུས་བཏུད།    །

zhab sen pemor tsuk gi norbü tü

Bow down and touch the crowns of their heads at your lotus feet.

འཕགས་པ་འཇིག་རྟེན་དབང་ཕྱུག་སྤྲུལ་པའི་སྐུ།    །

pakpa jikten wangchuk trulpé ku

You who are a manifestation of the noble Lord of the World,

རྣམ་འདྲེན་རྒྱལ་བའི་དབང་པོར་ཞབས་བརྟན་གསོལ།    །

namdren gyalwé wangpor zhabten sol

Great guide, mighty conqueror, may your life remain secure.

ཕྱག་ན་པད་དཀར་འཆང་བའི་འོད་སྣང་གིས།    །

chak na pekar changwé ö nang gi

With the radiant light of the Holder of the White Lotus,

འཛམ་གླིང་བསྟན་འགྲོར་ཕན་བདེའི་དངོས་ཀུན་སྦྱིན།    །

dzamling ten dror pendé ngö kün jin

You bring benefit and happiness to the teachings and beings of this world,

དཔག་བསམ་ལྗོན་དང་བསམ་འཕེལ་ནོར་བུ་ལྟར།    །

paksam jön dang sampel norbu tar

And, as you spontaneously accomplish vast enlightened activity,

ཕྲིན་ལས་ལྷུན་གྲུབ་ཆེན་པོར་ཞབས་བརྟན་གསོལ།    །

trinlé lhündrub chenpor zhabten sol

Like a magical wish-granting tree or wish-fulfilling jewel, may your life remain secure.

གང་སྐུ་གསེར་གྱི་རི་བོ་བརྗིད་ལྡན་ཞིང་།    །

gang ku ser gyi riwo jiden zhing

You whose form is as resplendent as a mountain of gold,

ཚད་མེད་རྣམ་བཞིའི་བང་རིམ་མངོན་པར་མཐོ།    །

tsemé nam zhi bang rim ngönpar to

Lofty with the terraces of the four boundless qualities

ཕྱིན་དྲུག་བསྡུ་དངོས་རིན་ཆེན་ཕྱང་ཕྲུལ་མཛེས།    །

chin druk du ngö rinchen changtrul dzé

And adorned with the pendants of the perfections and means of gathering—

ངག་དབང་ལྷ་ཡི་ལྷར་གྱུར་ཞབས་བརྟན་གསོལ།    །

ngawang lha yi lhar gyur zhabten sol

Lord of speech, deity of deities, may your life remain secure.

དགྲ་བཅོམ་ཉེ་བ་འཁོར་གྱི་སྤྱོད་པ་བཞིན།    །

drachom nyewa khor gyi chöpa zhin

You whose conduct resembles that of the arhat Upāli;

བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་ཀྱི་བདུད་རྩིའི་བཅུད་ཀྱིས་གཏམས།    །

changchub sem kyi dütsi chü kyi tam

You who are overflowing with the nectar of bodhicitta,

རྡོ་རྗེ་ཐེག་པའི་རྒྱལ་ཐབས་རྩེ་མོར་འཛེག  །

dorjé tekpé gyaltab tsemor dzek

And have reached the summit of the vajra vehicle's sovereign methods—

བློ་བཟང་རྡོ་རྗེ་འཆང་དབང་ཞབས་བརྟན་གསོལ།    །

lobzang dorjé chang wang zhabten sol

Noble-minded Vajradhara, may your life remain secure.

འཆད་པས་མཁས་དབང་བྱེ་བའི་ཡི་ག་འཕྲོག  །

chepé khewang jewé yiga trok

As through exposition, you enthral millions upon millions of learned scholars,

རྩོད་པས་ལོག་རྟོག་བྲག་རི་རྣམ་པར་བསྙིལ།    །

tsöpé loktok drakri nampar nyil

Through debate, you bring down the rocky mountains of wrong views,

རྩོམ་པས་ཐུབ་བསྟན་གསལ་བའི་མཆོད་སྡོང་བསྐྲུན།    །

tsompé tubten salwé chö dong trün

And through composition, you forge sacred monuments to illuminate the teachings—

བསྟན་འཛིན་རྒྱ་མཚོ་བསྐལ་བརྒྱར་བརྟན་བཞུགས་གསོལ།    །

tendzin gyatso kal gyar tenzhuk sol

Tenzin Gyatso, may your life remain secure for a hundred aeons.

སྲིད་པ་གསུམ་ན་འགྲན་ཟླ་ཀུན་སྤངས་ཤིང་།    །

sipa sum na drenda künpang shing

You who are entirely unrivalled throughout the three planes of existence,

འཛམ་གླིང་ཆོས་ཀྱི་བདག་པོར་དབང་བསྒྱུར་མཆོག  །

dzamling chö kyi dakpor wanggyur chok

Supreme sovereign and master of Dharma in this world of Jambudvīpa,

མཚུངས་པ་མེད་པའི་ཕྱོགས་ལས་རྣམ་རྒྱལ་སྡེ།    །

tsungpa mepé chok lé namgyal dé

Perfectly and utterly victorious one beyond all compare,

ཞབས་པད་རྡོ་རྗེའི་ཁྲི་ལ་བརྟན་བཞུགས་གསོལ།    །

zhabpé dorjé tri la tenzhuk sol

May your lotus feet remain secure upon the vajra throne, I pray.

ཞེས་པའང་སྒང་ཐོག་ཡོད་པའི་བོད་མི་སྤྱི་ནས་འབྲས་ལྗོངས་ལྷ་ཡུམ་དང་ཡབ་གཞིས་ཕུན་ཁང་པ་བརྒྱུད་ལྷ་རྫས་དང་མཎྜལ་རྟེན་བཅས་བསྐུལ་ངོར།  མེ་བྱ་ཟླ་ ༡༡ ཚེས་ ༧ བཟང་པོར་ཐམས་ཅད་མཁྱེན་གཟིགས་ཆེན་པོའི་བཀའ་འབངས་ཀྱི་ཐ་ཆུང་འཇམ་དབྱངས་མཁྱེན་བརྩེའི་དབང་པོའི་སྤྲུལ་མིང་འཛིན་པ་འཇམ་དབྱངས་ཆོས་ཀྱི་བློ་གྲོས་རིས་མེད་བསྟན་པའི་རྒྱལ་མཚན་དུ་འབོད་པས་དད་ཅིང་གུས་པ་ཆེན་པོས་གསོལ་བ་བཏབ་པ་དགེ་ལེགས་སུ་གྱུར་ཅིག  །

Thus, in response to a request from all the Tibetan people of Gangtok, presented together with the support of a silk scarf and maṇḍala by the Queen Mother and Yabzhi Punkhangpa, the lowest among this great omniscient one's disciples, the one who holds the name of an incarnation of Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo and is known as Jamyang Chökyi Lodrö Rimé Tenpé Gyaltsen offered this prayer on an auspicious date, the seventh day of the eleventh month of the Fire Bird year (28 December 1957). May it bring virtue and goodness!
