Prayer for the Long Life of the Paṇchen Lama

༄༅། །གཙང་པཎ་ཆེན་ཐམས་ཅད་མཁྱེན་པར་ཞབས་བརྟན་དུ་གསོལ་བ་བཀྲ་ཤིས་སྐྱེ་ལྔའི་སྒྲ་དབྱངས་ཞེས་བྱ་བ་བཞུགས་སོ།    །

A Prayer for the Long Life of the All-Knowing Paṇchen Rinpoche of Tsang

ཨོཾ་སྭསྟི།

om swasti

Oṃ svasti!

བདེ་ལྡན་ཞིང་གི་མགོན་པོ་འོད་མཐའ་ཡས།    །

deden zhing gi gönpo ö tayé

Lord Amitābha, 'Boundless Light', of the blissful realm of Sukhāvatī

དེང་འདིར་ལྔ་བརྒྱའི་འགྲོ་རྣམས་སྐྱོབས་པའི་མགོན།    །

dengdir ngabgyé dro nam kyobpé gön

Manifest here and now in an emanated form garbed in saffron robes,

ངུར་སྨྲིག་གར་གྱི་གཟུགས་སུ་སྟོན་མཛད་པ།    །

ngurmik gargyi zuk su tön dzepa

A protector for the beings of this five-hundred-year dark age—

པཎ་ཆེན་ཐམས་ཅད་མཁྱེན་པར་ཞབས་བརྟན་གསོལ།    །

penchen tamché khyenpar zhabten sol

All-knowing Paṇchen Lama, may your life may remain secure.

སྐལ་བཟང་ཐར་པ་འདོད་པའི་བློ་གྲོས་ཀྱི།    །

kalzang tarpa döpé lodrö kyi

Sovereign of Dharma, sole friend of the blossoming water lily

ཀུ་མུད་བཞད་པའི་གཉེན་གཅིག་ཆོས༵་ཀྱི༵་རྒྱལ།    །

kumü zhepé nyen chik chö kyi gyal

Of intelligence in those fortunate beings who seek liberation,

དབ༵ང་བཅུའི་དཔལ་གྱིས་ཕྱུག༵་པའི་འདྲེན་པ་མཆོག  །

wang chü pal gyi chukpé drenpa chok

Supreme guide, rich with the splendour of the ten powers—²

ཞབས་པད་རྡོ་རྗེའི་ཁྲི་ལ་རྟག་བརྟན་གསོལ།    །

zhabpé dorjé tri la takten sol

May your lotus feet remain forever secure upon the vajra throne.

འཆད་པས་མཁས་མང་བྱེ་བའི་ཡི་ག་འཕྲོག  །

chepé khé mang jewé yiga trok

In exposition, you captivate the minds of many million scholars,

རྩོད་པས་ལོག་རྟོག་བྲག་རི་ཕྱེ་མར་འཐགས།    །

tsöpé loktok drakri chemar tak

In debate, you reduce to dust the mountains of erroneous views,

རྩོམ་པས་ཐུབ་བསྟན་མཆོད་སྡོང་མཛེས་པར་བྱས།    །

tsompé tubten chö dong dzepar jé

In composition, you embellish the shrine of the Sage’s teachings—

ཀུན་མཁྱེན་རྒྱལ་བ་གཉིས་པར་ཞབས་བརྟན་གསོལ།    །

künkhyen gyalwa nyipar zhabten sol

Second all-knowing Victorious One, may your life remain secure.

ཀུན་གཟིགས་མཁྱེན་བརྩེ་ནུས་པའི་གཏེར་ཆེན་པོ།    །

künzik khyen tsé nüpé ter chenpo

All-seeing one, great treasury of knowledge, love and spiritual capacity,

གངས་ཅན་བསྟན་འགྲོའི་སྐྱབས་གཅིག་དབང་གི་རྒྱལ།    །

gangchen ten drö kyab chik wang gi gyal

Mighty king, sole refuge of the teachings and beings in this Land of Snows,

དགོས་འདོད་རེ་སྐོང་ཡིད་བཞིན་རིན་པོ་ཆེ།    །

gödö rekong yizhin rinpoche

Wish-granting jewel to fulfil our hopes and furnish our needs and desires—

སྒྲིབ་མེད་རྡོ་རྗེའི་ཁྲི་ལ་བརྟན་བཞུགས་གསོལ།    །

dribmé dorjé tri la tenzhuk sol

I pray that you may remain securely without obstacle upon the vajra throne.

སྐུ་མཆོག་མཚན་དཔེའི་དཀྱིལ་འཁོར་ཉི་བཞིན་གསལ།    །

ku chok tsenpé kyilkhor nyi zhin sal

With your supreme form, a maṇḍala of signs and marks, as radiant as the sun,

གསུང་གི་སྒྲ་དབྱངས་ཚངས་པའི་གདངས་ལྟར་སྙན།    །

sung gi drayang tsangpé dang tar nyen

With the sound of your speech as sweetly harmonious as the voice of Brahma,

ཐུགས་ཀྱི་གསང་བ་ཟབ་ཅིང་གཏིང་དཔག་དཀའ།    །

tuk kyi sangwa zab ching ting pak ka

And with the secret of your mind profound and difficult to fathom—

རྒྱལ་ཀུན་འདུས་པའི་ངོ་བོར་ཞབས་བརྟན་གསོལ།    །

gyal kün düpé ngowor zhabten sol

Essential embodiment of all the victorious ones, may your life remain secure.

དེ་ལྟར་གསོལ་བ་བཏབ་པའི་དོན་འབྲས་བཟང་།    །

detar solwa tabpé dön dré zang

May the excellent goal of this prayer be fulfilled without obstacle

གེགས་མེད་འགྲུབ་པར་སྲས་བཅས་རྒྱལ་བ་ཡི།    །

gekmé drubpar sé ché gyalwa yi

Through the truth and blessings of the victorious ones and their heirs,

བདེན་པས་བྱིན་བརླབ་འཇམ་མགོན་ཙོང་ཁ་པའི།    །

denpé jin lab jamgön tsongkhapé

And may the teachings of the gentle lord Tsongkhapa

བསྟན་པ་ཉམས་མེད་དར་རྒྱས་ཡུན་གནས་ཤོག  །

tenpa nyammé dargyé yün né shok

Never decline but flourish and endure long into the future!

ཅེས་པའང་དཔལ་ས་སྐྱ་ཕུན་ཕོའི་བདག་ཆེན་རིན་པོ་ཆེ་ངག་དབང་ཀུན་དགའ་བསོད་ནམས་ཀྱི་བཀའ་སྩལ་སྤྱི་བོས་མཆོད་དེ།  རིས་བྲལ་བསྟན་པ་ཡོངས་ལ་དད་གུས་མི་ཕྱེད་པའི་བློ་ཅན་འཇམ་དབྱངས་མཁྱེན་བརྩེའི་སྤྲུལ་མིང་འཛིན་པ་ཆོས་ཀྱི་བློ་གྲོས་པས་ཕུལ་བ་དགེ་ལེགས་སུ་གྱུར་ཅིག  །སརྦ་མངྒ་ལཾ།།    །།

Thus, honouring at my crown the command of Dagchen Rinpoche, Ngawang Kunga Sonam, of glorious Sakya’s Puntsok Palace, I, Chökyi Lodrö, who holds the name of a tulku of Jamyang Khyentse and who has a mind of unshakeable faith and devotion for all teachings without sectarian bias, offered this prayer. May it bring virtue and goodness! Sarva maṅgalaṃ.
