A Prayer to the Garland of Glorious Karmapa Incarnations

རྒྱལ་བ་ཀུན་གྱི་ཕྲིན་ལས་སྤེལ། །

gyalwa kün gyi trinlé pel

You extended the activity of all the victorious ones,

རིགས་གསུམ་གཅིག་བསྡུས་ཀརྨ་པ། །

rik sum chikdü karma pa

The three buddha families in a single embodiment,

དུས་གསུམ་མཁྱེན་པ་མི་ཡི་རྗེ། །

dü sum khyenpa mi yi jé

Karmapa Düsum Khyenpa, lord among men,

འཇིག་རྟེན་འདྲེན་པར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

jikten drenpar solwa deb

Guide for all the world, to you I pray.

 

སྣང་སྲིད་ཡེ་ཤེས་ཕྱག་རྒྱས་ཐེབས། །

nangsi yeshe chakgyé teb

You applied the wisdom seal to appearance and existence,

བདེ་ཆེན་ཟུང་འཇུག་གྲུབ་པའི་གཙོ། །

dechen zungjuk drubpé tso

As the foremost adept of the unity of great bliss,

རྣལ་འབྱོར་དབང་ཕྱུག་ཧེ་རུ་ཀ །

naljor wangchuk heruka

Lord of yogis, heruka—

ཆོས་ཀྱི་བླ་མར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

chö kyi lamar solwa deb

Chökyi Lama, to you I pray.

 

སྤྱན་རས་གཟིགས་དབང་མི་ཡི་གཟུགས། །

chenrezik wang mi yi zuk

Lord Avalokiteśvara in human form,

བརྟན་པའི་འཁོར་ལོའི་མཁྱེན་རབ་ཅན། །

tenpé khorlö khyen rabchen

With the wisdom of Sthiracakra,¹

གསང་བ་རྒྱ་མཚོའི་མངའ་བདག་མཆོག །

sangwa gyatsö ngadak chok

Supreme sovereign of oceanic secrets²—

རང་བྱུང་རྡོ་རྗེར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

rangjung dorjér solwa deb

Rangjung Dorje, to you I pray.

 

རྒྱལ་སྲས་བྱང་ཆེན་སྤྱོད་པ་ལས། །

gyalsé jang chen chöpa lé

Through the great awakening activity of a bodhisattva,

སྙིང་སྟོབས་གོ་ཆ་བརྟན་པོ་བཞེས། །

nyingtob gocha tenpo zhé

You gained the secure armour of courage,

གཞན་ལ་ཕན་པའི་རྩ་ལག་མཆོག །

zhen la penpé tsalak chok

Supreme friend who strives to benefit others—

རོལ་པའི་རྡོ་རྗེར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

rolpé dorjér solwa deb

Rolpé Dorje, to you I pray.

 

ལྷར་བཅས་སྲིད་ཞིའི་གཙུག་གི་ནོར། །

lhar ché sizhi tsuk gi nor

Crown jewel of all existence and peace, including the heavens,

བརྟན་གཡོ་ཕྱག་རྒྱ་ཆེན་པོར་སྡོམ། །

tenyo chakgya chenpor dom

Who brings the animate and inanimate within the great seal, Mahāmudrā,

གངས་ལྗོངས་བསྟན་པ་ཡོངས་ཀྱི་བདག །

gangjong tenpa yong kyi dak

Master of all the teachings of the Land of Snows—

དེ་བཞིན་གཤེགས་པར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

dezhin shekpar solwa deb

Deshin Shekpa, to you I pray.

 

ཚུལ་ཁྲིམས་ཕུང་པོ་རབ་བརྗིད་ཅིང་། །

tsultrim pungpo rab ji ching

Utterly resplendent in your extensive ethical restraint,

ཏིང་འཛིན་མཆོག་ལས་མི་འདའ་ཞིང་། །

tingdzin chok lé mi da zhing

You never part from supreme meditative absorption,

ཤེས་རབ་ཟབ་མོའི་དཔལ་འཆང་བ། །

sherab zabmö pal changwa

And maintain the wonder of profound intelligence—

མཐོང་བ་དོན་ལྡན་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

tongwa dönden solwa deb

Tongwa Dönden, to you I pray.

 

ཚར་གཅོད་རྗེས་འཛིན་མཐུ་གྲུབ་ཅིང་། །

tsarchö jedzin tu drub ching

You gained the capacity to nurture and eliminate,

མཁས་དང་བཙུན་པའི་ཕུལ་དུ་གྱུར། །

khé dang tsünpé pul du gyur

Most excellent among the learned and venerable,

མཁྱེན་ནུས་བརྩེ་བའི་གཏེར་ཆེན་པོ། །

khyen nü tsewé ter chenpo

Great treasury of wisdom, power and love—

ཆོས་གྲགས་རྒྱ་མཚོར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

chödrak gyatsor solwa deb

Chödrak Gyatso, to you I pray.

 

མི་འཕྲོག་པ་ཡི་ཐུགས་མངའ་ཞིང་། །

mi trokpa yi tuk nga zhing

Possessor of an indomitable wisdom mind,

ཟབ་དོན་མན་ངག་རྒྱ་མཚོའི་མཛོད། །

zab dön mengak gyatsö dzö

Treasury of infinite profound pith instructions,

ཁམས་གསུམ་ཆོས་ཀྱི་རྒྱལ་པོ་མཆོག །

kham sum chökyi gyalpo chok

Supreme dharma sovereign of the three realms—

མི་བསྐྱོད་རྡོ་རྗེར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

mi kyö dorjér solwa deb

Mikyö Dorje, to you I pray.

 

འཕགས་ཆེན་ས་ལ་རབ་བཞུགས་ཤིང་། །

pak chen sa la rab zhuk shing

Well established on the noble stages,

ལུང་རིགས་ནོར་བུ་གྲམ་པ་བརྡལ། །

lung rik norbu drampa dal

Bestrewn with jewels of scripture and reasoning,

འཆད་རྩོད་རྩོམ་ལ་བསྙེངས་བྲལ་བ། །

ché tsö tsom la nyeng dralwa

And fearless in explanation, debate and composition—

དབང་ཕྱུག་རྡོ་རྗེར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

wangchuk dorjér solwa deb

Wangchuk Dorje, to you I pray.

 

ཆོས་བརྒྱད་སྒྱུ་མར་རྟག་ཏུ་གཟིགས། །

chö gyé gyumar taktu zik

Always seeing the illusion of the eight worldly concerns,

རོ་སྙོམས་བརྟུལ་ཞུགས་གྲུབ་པའི་གཙོ། །

ronyom tulzhuk drubpé tso

Foremost of adepts in the discipline of equal taste,

ལྷག་པའི་ལྷ་ཡིས་རྗེས་སུ་བཟུང་། །

lhakpé lha yi jesu zung

Cared for and guided by the supreme deity—

ཆོས་དབྱིངས་རྡོ་རྗེར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

chöying dorjér solwa deb

Chöying Dorje, to you I pray.

 

ལས་རླུང་དྷུ་ཏིའི་དབྱིངས་སུ་བཅིངས། །

lé lung dhuti ying su ching

Binding the karmic winds in the space of dhūti,³

ཀུན་ཏུ་རྟོག་པ་ཐམས་ཅད་ཟད། །

küntu tokpa tamché zé

You brought all conceptual thought to exhaustion,

འཕོ་མེད་ཟུང་འཇུག་ཕྱག་རྒྱའི་སྐུ། །

pomé zungjuk chakgyé ku

In the kāya of the seal of union beyond transference—

ཡེ་ཤེས་རྡོ་རྗེར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

yeshe dorjér solwa deb

Yeshe Dorje, to you I pray.

 

སྤངས་རྟོགས་ཡོན་ཏན་བྱེ་བའི་གཏེར། །

pang tok yönten jewé ter

Treasury of billionfold qualities of relinquishment and realization,

མདོ་སྔགས་ཆོས་ཚུལ་འབྱུང་གནས་ཆེ། །

do ngak chö tsul jungné ché

Great source of sūtra and mantra dharma systems,

སྐལ་ལྡན་སྐུ་བཞིར་བཀྲིར་མཛད་པ། །

kalden ku zhir trir dzepa

Guiding the fortunate to the four kāyas,

བྱང་ཆུབ་རྡོ་རྗེར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

changchub dorjér solwa deb

Changchub Dorje, to you I pray.

 

རྟག་པར་སེམས་ཅན་དོན་ལ་བརྩོན། །

takpar semchen dön la tsön

Forever striving for the sake of sentient beings,

ཐོས་བསམ་སྒོམ་པ་མཐར་སོན་ཅིང་། །

tö sam gompa tar sön ching

Having perfected study, reflection and meditation,

དོན་གཉིས་ལྷུན་གྲུབ་ཆོས་ཀྱི་རྗེ། །

dön nyi lhündrub chö kyi jé

Lord of Dharma, you spontaneously accomplish twofold benefit—

ཐེག་མཆོག་རྡོ་རྗེར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

tek chok dorjér solwa deb

Tekchok Dorje, to you I pray.

 

འཁོར་ལོ་སྡོམ་པ་མི་ཡི་གཟུགས། །

khorlo dompa mi yi zuk

Cakrasaṃvara in human form,

ཁྱབ་བདག་རྡོ་རྗེ་སེམས་དཔའི་སྐུ། །

khyabdak dorjé sempé ku

Embodiment of the all-pervading Vajrasattva,

རིགས་རྣམས་ཀུན་འདུས་དཀྱིལ་འཁོར་གཙོ། །

rik nam kündü kyilkhor tso

Sovereign of the maṇḍala of all buddha families—

མཁའ་ཁྱབ་རྡོ་རྗེར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

khakhyab dorjér solwa deb

Khakhyab Dorje, to you I pray.

 

སྲིད་འདི་ཇི་སྲིད་གནས་ཀྱི་བར། །

si di jisi né kyi bar

For as long as existence itself continues,

འཕགས་མཆོག་སྤྲུལ་པ་རྒྱུན་མི་ཆད། །

pakchok trulpa gyün mi ché

May these most exalted emanations appear,

ཕུལ་བྱུང་ངོ་མཚར་གཏམ་མང་གིས། །

puljung ngotsar tam mang gi

And fill the whole of this wealth-bearing world

ནོར་འཛིན་ཁྱོན་ཀུན་ཁྱབ་གྱུར་ཅིག །

nordzin khyön kün khyab gyur chik

With an abundance of excellent, wondrous advice.

 

བདག་ཀྱང་དེང་ནས་བྱང་ཆུབ་བར། །

dak kyang deng né changchub bar

May I too be guided by, and never apart from,

མགོན་པོས་འབྲལ་མེད་རྗེས་བཟུང་ཞིང་། །

gönpö dralmé jezung zhing

This protector from now until enlightenment,

རྒྱལ་བ་སེངྒེའི་ང་རོ་དང་། །

gyalwa sengé ngaro dang

And when I ultimately attain perfect awakening

དབྱེར་མེད་མངོན་པར་བྱང་ཆུབ་ཤོག །

yermé ngönpar changchub shok

May I be inseparable from the conqueror Lion’s Roar.⁴

 

ཅེས་པའང་ཆོས་ཀྱི་བློ་གྲོས་པས་གསོལ་བ་བཏབ་པ་སིདྡྷི་རསྟུ། དགེའོ།། །།

Chökyi Lodrö offered this prayer. Siddhirastu. May virtue abound!
