༄༅། །སྐྱེ་ཕྲེང་གསོལ་འདེབས།

Prayer to the Succession of Rebirths

རྒྱལ་ཀུན་ཡེ་ཤེས་གཅིག་བསྡུས་མཁྱེན་པའི་གཏེར། །

gyal kün yeshe chikdü khyenpé ter

Knowledge treasury, concentration of all the victors’ wisdom,

འཇམ་དཔལ་བཤེས་གཉེན་ཆོས་རྒྱལ་ཁྲི་སྲོང་ཞབས། །

jampal shenyen chögyal trisong zhab

Mañjuśrīmitra, and noble dharma-king Tri Songdetsen—

གང་དེའི་སྐུ་གསུང་ཐུགས་ཡོན་ཕྲིན་ལས་ཀྱི། །

gang dé ku sung tuk yön trinlé kyi

To the manifold emanations of your enlightened body,

རྣམ་འཕྲུལ་དུ་མར་སྣང་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

namtrul dumar nang la solwa deb

Speech, mind, qualities and activity, I pray.

འཇའ་ལུས་འཆི་མེད་སྐུ་བརྙེས་བཱི་མ་ལ། །

jalü chimé ku nyé bima la

Vimalamitra who attained the rainbow body’s deathless kāya,

རྗེ་བཙུན་གྲགས་པ་རས་ཆུང་རྡོ་རྗེ་གྲགས། །

jetsün drakpa ré chung dorjé drak

Jetsün Drakpa Gyaltsen and Rechung Dorje Drak,

ནགས་ཀྱི་རིན་ཆེན་བརྩོན་འགྲུས་བཟང་པོ་སོགས། །

nak kyi rinchen tsöndrü zangpo sok

Vanaratna, Tsöndru Zangpo¹ and the rest—

ངོ་མཚར་སྤྲུལ་པའི་ཕྲེང་བར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

ngotsar trulpé trengwar solwa deb

To the succession of wondrous manifestations, I pray.

ཀུན་མཁྱེན་ཆོས་ཀྱི་རྒྱལ་པོ་ཀློང་ཆེན་པ། །

künkhyen chö kyi gyalpo longchenpa

All-knowing sovereign of Dharma, Longchenpa,

མཁྱེན་བརྩེའི་དབང་ཕྱུག་ནམ་མཁའི་མཚན་ཅན་སོགས། །

khyentsé wangchuk namkhé tsenchen sok

Khyentse Wangchuk, the one called Namkha,² and the rest—

གང་འདུལ་སྒྱུ་འཕྲུལ་དྲྭ་བའི་རོལ་པ་ཡིས། །

gang dul gyutrul drawé rolpa yi

To those displays of the web of magical manifestation

རིས་མེད་བསྟན་པ་སྤེལ་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

rimé tenpa pel la solwa deb

Who furthered the non-sectarian teachings, I pray.

དེང་འདིར་མཁས་གྲུབ་དམ་པའི་རིགས་སུ་འཁྲུངས། །

dengdir khedrub dampé rik su trung

Here and now, you were born into a noble family of learned adepts,

མཁྱེན་རབ་མཐའ་ཡས་ངེས་འབྱུང་བྱང་སེམས་འབྱོངས། །

khyen rab tayé ngejung changsem jong

And with boundless acuity mastered renunciation and bodhicitta.

ཚུལ་ཁྲིམས་དག་ཅིང་གསན་བསམ་སྒོམ་གསུམ་རྫོགས། །

tsultrim dak ching sen sam gom sum dzok

Pure in discipline, you perfected study, contemplation and meditation.

ཀུན་གྱི་དམ་པར་བསྔགས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

kün gyi dampar ngak la solwa deb

To the one who is celebrated as the most noble of all, I pray.

བླ་མ་ལྷག་པའི་ལྷ་ཡིས་རྗེས་སུ་བཟུང་། །

lama lhakpé lha yi jesu zung

You are guided and cared for by gurus and supreme deities,

འཁོར་ལོ་གསུམ་གྱི་ཕྲིན་ལས་རྨད་དུ་བྱུང་། །

khorlo sum gyi trinlé mé du jung

And your activity in the three spheres is a wonder to behold—

འཇམ་པའི་དབྱངས་དངོས་མཁྱེན་བརྩེའི་དབང་པོ་ཡི། །

jampé yang ngö khyentsé wangpo yi

Khyentse Wangpo, gentled-voiced Mañjughoṣa in person,

རྣམ་ཐར་དྲན་བཞིན་སྙིང་ནས་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

namtar dren zhin nying né solwa deb

Recalling your life of liberation, I pray to you wholeheartedly.

གསང་གསུམ་མི་ཤིགས་རྡོ་རྗེའི་ཆོས་སུ་བརྟན། །

sang sum mishik dorjé chö su ten

May your three secrets remain as stable as the indestructible vajra qualities.

ཟབ་རྒྱས་ཆོས་འཁོར་རྒྱུན་ཆད་མེད་པར་བསྐོར། །

zabgyé chökhor gyünché mepar kor

May you continuously turn the wheel of Dharma, profound and vast.

ཕན་བདེའི་ལེགས་མཛད་ནམ་མཁའི་མཐའ་ཁྱབ་པས། །

pendé lek dzé namkhé ta khyabpé

And through your excellent, far-reaching deeds to bring benefit and happiness,

བསྟན་འགྲོའི་དགེ་མཚན་རྒྱས་པར་མཛད་དུ་གསོལ། །

ten drö getsen gyepar dzé du sol

May the teachings and beings flourish with ever greater auspiciousness.

ནམ་ཞིག་མགོན་ཁྱོད་བྱང་ཆུབ་ཤིང་དྲུང་དུ། །

namzhik gön khyö changchub shingdrung du

In time, when you, O protector, display the manner

མངོན་པར་རྫོགས་སངས་རྒྱས་པའི་ཚུལ་བསྟན་ཚེ། །

ngönpar dzoksang gyepé tsul ten tsé

Of attaining complete awakening beneath the bodhi tree,

བདག་སོགས་འཁོར་གྱི་ཐོག་མར་སྐྱེས་ནས་ཀྱང་། །

dak sok khor gyi tokmar kyé né kyang

May I and others be reborn as the first members of your retinue

དོན་གཉིས་ལྷུན་གྱིས་གྲུབ་པའི་བཀྲ་ཤིས་ཤོག །

dön nyi lhün gyi drubpé tashi shok

And all be auspicious for the spontaneous fulfilment of the twofold aim!

ཅེས་པའང་རང་ངོས་ནས་ད་ལྟ་བའི་སྤྱོད་པ་མངོན་གྱུར་ཕལ་ཆེར་ཀྱང་བརྗེད་ངེས་ཀྱི་དྲན་པའི་མཐུ་ཆུང་ན། ལྐོག་གྱུར་གྱི་སྐྱེ་ཕྲེང་ཤེས་པའི་རེ་བ་མ་མཆིས་མོད། ཟབ་གཏེར་གྱི་ལུང་དང་དམ་པ་རྣམས་ཀྱི་རྗེས་སུ་གནང་བ་བཞིན་བླ་མ་དགེ་བའི་བཤེས་གཉེན་ཀུན་དགའ་རྒྱ་མཚོས་ནན་དུ་བསྐུལ་བ་ལྟར་བྱ་བྲལ་བ་འཇམ་དབྱངས་མཁྱེན་བརྩེའི་དབང་པོ་རང་ཉིད་ཀྱིས་ལྷག་བསམ་དག་པའི་སེམས་ཀྱིས་སྨྲས་པ་དགེ་ལེགས་སུ་གྱུར་ཅིག །མངྒལཾ།། །།དགེའོ། །

From my side, although my present activity is mostly self-evident, still my memory is weak and prone to forgetfulness, so I have no hope of fathoming my series of incarnations, which are hidden phenomena. Nevertheless, by following the prophetic statements of profound termas and the pronouncements of sublime beings, and in response to an insistent request from the lama and spiritual guide Kunga Gyatso, I, the carefree Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo, spoke these words myself with a pure intention. May they bring virtue and excellence! Maṅgalam. Let it be virtuous!
