Prayer for the Long Life of the Sixteenth Karmapa¹

om swasti

Oṃ svasti!

བསྐལ་པ་བཟང་པོའི་རྣམ་འདྲེན་དྲུག་པ་དང་། །

kalpa zangpö namdren drukpa dang

The sixth guide of this Fortunate Aeon²

གྲུབ་ཆེན་ས་ར་ཧ་ཡི་སྤྲུལ་པའི་སྐུ། །

drubchen sara ha yi trulpé ku

And nirmāṇakāya emanation of the mahāsiddha Saraha,

དུས་གསུམ་མཁྱེན་པའི་སྐྱེ་ཕྲེང་བཅུ་དྲུག་པ། །

dü sum khyenpé kyé treng chudrukpa

Sixteenth in the garland of rebirths of Düsum Khyenpa,

རིག་པའི་རྡོ་རྗེའི་ཞབས་པད་བརྟན་གྱུར་ཅིག །

rigpé dorjé zhabpé ten gyur chik

Rigpé Dorje, may your lotus feet remain secure!

མཁྱེན་པས་ཆོས་ཀྱི་དེ་ཉིད་ཇི་བཞིན་གཟིགས། །

khyenpé chö kyi denyi jizhin zik

With knowledge, you see the nature of phenomena just as it is,

བརྩེ་བས་འགྲོ་བ་ཀུན་གྱི་སྐྱབས་མཛད་ཅིང་། །

tsewé drowa kün gyi kyab dzé ching

With love, you provide protection to all wandering beings,

ནུས་པས་བདུད་ལས་རྒྱལ་བའི་ཀརྨ་པ། །

nüpé dü lé gyalwé karma pa

And with power, you are the Karmapa, victorious over māras—

རིག་པའི་རྡོ་རྗེའི་ཞབས་པད་བརྟན་གྱུར་ཅིག །

rigpé dorjé zhabpé ten gyur chik

Rigpé Dorje, may your lotus feet remain secure!

ཚོགས་གཉིས་དཀྱིལ་འཁོར་རྒྱས་པ་ལས་བྱུང་བའི། །

tsok nyi kyilkhor gyepa lé jungwé

With the light of activity sprung from the full maṇḍala of twofold accumulation,

ཕྲིན་ལས་འོད་ཀྱིས་རྒྱལ་བསྟན་ཀུནྡའི་ཚལ། །

trinlé ö kyi gyalten kundé tsal

You cause the jasmine grove of the Victorious One’s teachings to grow,

སྤེལ་མཛད་དམ་ཆོས་སྨྲ་བའི་ཟླ་བ་མཆོག །

pel dzé damchö mawé dawa chok

You who are a sublime moon among exponents of sacred Dharma—

རིག་པའི་རྡོ་རྗེའི་ཞབས་པད་བརྟན་གྱུར་ཅིག །

rigpé dorjé zhabpé ten gyur chik

Rigpé Dorje, may your lotus feet remain secure!

རྣམ་མང་ཁྲིམས་ལྡན་འབུམ་གྱི་མཁན་པོ་སྟེ། །

nam mang trimden bum gyi khenpo té

Preceptor of a hundred thousand possessors of multifaceted ethics,

རྒྱལ་སྲས་བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་དཔའ་བྱེ་བའི་ཡབ། །

gyalsé changchub sempa jewé yab

Father of ten million bodhisattva heirs to the victors,

བསྒྲང་ཡས་རིག་པ་འཛིན་པའི་སློབ་དཔོན་ཆེ། །

drang yé rigpa dzinpé lobpön ché

Great master of vidyādharas beyond count—

རིག་པའི་རྡོ་རྗེའི་ཞབས་པད་བརྟན་གྱུར་ཅིག །

rigpé dorjé zhabpé ten gyur chik

Rigpé Dorje, may your lotus feet remain secure!

བསྟན་པའི་རྒྱལ་མཚན་འཛམ་བུའི་གླིང་དུ་བཙུགས། །

tenpé gyaltsen dzambüling du tsuk

You have planted the victory banner of the teachings in this world,

གྲགས་པའི་བ་དན་ཕྱོགས་རྣམས་ཀུན་ཏུ་གཡོ། །

drakpé baden chok nam küntu yo

The flag of your renown now flutters in each and every direction,

རྒྱལ་བའི་ཕྲིན་ལས་མངའ་བ་ཀརྨ་པ། །

gyalwé trinlé ngawa karma pa

And you uphold the activity of the victorious ones—Karmapa,

རིག་པའི་རྡོ་རྗེའི་ཞབས་པད་བརྟན་གྱུར་ཅིག །

rigpé dorjé zhabpé ten gyur chik

Rigpé Dorje, may your lotus feet remain secure!

ཐུབ་པའི་དབང་པོའི་བསྟན་པ་སྤེལ་བ་དང་། །

tubpé wangpö tenpa pelwa dang

A propagator of the teachings of the Lord of Sages,

སྙིགས་དུས་འགྲོ་བ་རྣམས་ཀྱི་མགོན་ཉིད་དུ། །

nyikdü drowa nam kyi gön nyi du

And a guardian of beings in this degenerate age,

འཇིག་རྟེན་དབང་ཕྱུག་རྣམ་འཕྲུལ་ཀརྨ་པ། །

jikten wangchuk namtrul karma pa

You are the Karmapa, emanation of Lokeśvara—

རིག་པའི་རྡོ་རྗེའི་ཞབས་པད་བརྟན་གྱུར་ཅིག །

rigpé dorjé zhabpé ten gyur chik

Rigpé Dorje, may your lotus feet remain secure!

བསླུ་མེད་དཀོན་མཆོག་གསུམ་གྱི་བདེན་པ་དང་། །

lumé könchok sum gyi denpa dang

Through the truth of unfailing Three Jewels

ཁྱད་པར་འཆི་བ་མེད་པའི་མཆོག་སྦྱིན་པའི། །

khyepar chiwa mepé chok jinpé

And through the blessings of the hosts of long-life deities

ཚེ་ཡི་ལྷ་ཚོགས་རྣམས་ཀྱི་བྱིན་རླབས་ཀྱིས། །

tsé yi lhatsok nam kyi jinlab kyi

Who grant the supreme boon of immortality in particular,

ཇི་ལྟར་སྨོན་པའི་དོན་འདི་འགྲུབ་གྱུར་ཅིག །

jitar mönpé dön di drub gyur chik

May this prayer be fulfilled according to our aspirations!

ཅེས་པ་འདི་ནི་མཛོད་པ་དམ་ཆོས་ཡོངས་འདུ་ནས་རྟེན་བཅས་བསྐུལ་ངོར་ས་སྐྱ་ཁྲི་འཛིན་ངག་དབང་ཀུན་དགས་རྩེ་གཅིག་ཏུ་སྨོན་པ་དགེ། །།
