The Provider of Blessings
A Guru Yoga Based on the Deathless Guru of Great Bliss

ན་མོ་གུ་རུ་ཡེ།
Namo guruye!1
རྡོ་རྗེ་ཐེག་པའི་ཉམས་ལེན་ཉེ་ལམ་མཐར་ཐུག་བླ་མའི་རྣལ་འབྱོར་གྱི་རིམ་པ་ཉམས་སུ་ལེན་པར་འདོད་པས།
Those who wish to take to heart the stages of the guru yoga, the ultimate swift-path practice of the Vajrayāna, should proceed as follows.
སྦྱོར་བ་ནི།
Preparation
ངེས་འབྱུང་དང་དད་མོས་ཀྱིས་རྒྱུད་བསྐུལ་ཏེ།
Inspired by an attitude of determination to be free, as well as faith and devotion, recite:
Taking Refuge
ན་མོ། བླ་མ་བདེ་གཤེགས་འདུས་པའི་སྐུ། །
namo, lama deshek düpé ku
Namo! Guru, in your perfect form, you embody all the sugatas;
དཀོན་མཆོག་གསུམ་གྱི་རང་བཞིན་ལ། །
könchok sum gyi rangzhin la
Your nature is that of the Three Jewels—Buddha, Dharma and Saṅgha.
བདག་དང་འགྲོ་དྲུག་སེམས་ཅན་རྣམས། །
dak dang dro druk semchen nam
Until I and all beings of the six realms attain enlightenment,
བྱང་ཆུབ་བར་དུ་སྐྱབས་སུ་མཆི། །
changchub bardu kyab su chi
We take refuge in you!
ཞེས་ལན་གསུམ་གྱིས་སྐྱབས་འགྲོ་དང་།
Take refuge by repeating this three times.
Generating Bodhicitta
སེམས་བསྐྱེད་འགྲོ་བ་ཀུན་དོན་དུ། །
semkyé drowa kün döndu
I arouse the awakened mind of bodhicitta, and, for the sake of all beings,
བླ་མ་སངས་རྒྱས་བསྒྲུབས་ནས་ནི། །
lama sangye drub né ni
When I have accomplished the enlightened state of the Guru,
གང་ལ་གང་འདུལ་ཕྲིན་ལས་ཀྱིས། །
gang la gang dul trinlé kyi
I vow to liberate them all, through the enlightened actions
འགྲོ་བ་བསྒྲལ་བར་དམ་བཅའོ། །
drowa dralwar damcha o
Of teaching each and every one according to their needs.
ཞེས་ལན་གསུམ་གྱིས་སེམས་བསྐྱེད།
Generate bodhicitta by repeating this three times.

དངོས་གཞི་ལ། མདུན་རྟེན་བསྐྱེད་པ་ནི།
Front Visualization
ཨ། སྣོད་བཅུད་པདྨ་འོད་ཀྱི་ཞིང་། །
a, nöchü pema ö kyi zhing
A. The environment and inhabitants are those of Lotus Light,
ངོ་མཚར་མཆོད་སྤྲིན་འཁྲིགས་པའི་དབུས། །
ngotsar chötrin trikpé ü
Where, amidst billowing clouds of wondrous offerings,
མདུན་མཁར་པདྨ་ཉི་ཟླའི་སྟེང་། །
dün khar pema nyidé teng
There appears in the sky before me, upon lotus, sun and moon,
སངས་རྒྱས་ཀུན་འདུས་བདེ་བ་ཆེ། །
sangye kündü dewa ché
The Great Blissful One, who embodies all the buddhas,
གུ་རུ་པདྨ་སམྦྷ་ནི། །
guru pema sambha ni
Guru Padmasambhava,
བདེ་སྟོང་དབྱེར་མེད་དཀར་དམར་མདངས། །
detong yermé kar mar dang
Glowing whitish red—bliss and emptiness indivisible.
གཞོན་ནུ་མཚན་དཔའི་ལང་ཚོ་འབར། །
zhönnu tsen pé langtso bar
He is youthful, resplendent with the signs and marks.
ཐིག་ལེ་ཉག་གཅིག་འཛུམ་ཞལ། །
tiklé nyakchik dzum zhal
His smiling face is the single, all-encompassing sphere.
སྤྱན་ཟུང་ལྟ་སྟངས་དབྱིངས་ལ་གཟིགས། །
chen zung tatang ying la zik
His two eyes gaze into all-pervading space.
ཐབས་ཤེས་ཕྱག་གཉིས་མཉམ་གཞག་སྟེང་། །
tabshé chak nyi nyam zhak teng
In his two hands, method and wisdom, which are in the gesture of equanimity,
དབྱིངས་ཡེ་ཟུང་འཇུག་ཀ་པཱ་ལར། །
ying yé zungjuk kapalar
He holds the kapāla of the union of space and primordial wisdom,
འཆི་མེད་བདུད་རྩིའི་བཅུད་ཀྱིས་གཏམས། །
chimé dütsi chü kyi tam
Which is filled with the nectar of immortality.
ཞབས་གཉིས་རྡོ་རྗེའི་སྐྱིལ་ཀྲུང་བཞུགས། །
zhab nyi dorjé kyiltrung zhuk
He is seated with his two legs crossed in vajra posture
པཎ་ཞུ་རྡོ་རྗེའི་གསང་གོས་དང་། །
pen zhu dorjé sang gö dang
And wears a paṇḍita’s hat, secret garment,
ཟ་འོག་བེར་སྨུག་བརྗིད་པར་གསོལ། །
zaok ber muk jipar sol
And splendid dark red cloak of shining brocade.
རང་བྱུང་འཇའ་ཟེར་འོད་ལྔའི་ཀློང་། །
rangjung jazer ö ngé long
In an expanse of naturally arisen rainbow lights and five-coloured rays,
འཕྲོ་འདུའི་གཟི་བྱིན་ལམ་མེ་བ། །
trodü zijin lammewa
All shooting to and fro, he possesses a majestic splendour
མངོན་སུམ་བཞིན་དུ་བཞུགས་པར་གྱུར། །
ngönsum zhindu zhukpar gyur
And is vividly present, as if in reality.
ཅེས་གསལ་བཏབ་ལ།
ཚོགས་བསགས་པ་ནི།
Gathering the Accumulations
རྒྱལ་ཀུན་ངོ་བོ་བླ་མ་ལ། །
gyal kün ngowo lama la
To the guru, essence and embodiment of all the victors,
སྒོ་གསུམ་གུས་པས་ཕྱག་འཚལ་ལོ། །
go sum güpé chaktsal lo
I prostrate, as devotion fills my body, speech and mind.
ཕྱི་ནང་མཆོད་སྤྲིན་རྒྱ་མཚོས་མཆོད། །
chinang chötrin gyatsö chö
I offer vast ocean-like clouds of outer and inner offerings.
ཐོག་མེད་ནས་བསགས་སྡིག་ལྟུང་བཤགས། །
tokmé né sak diktung shak
I confess my misdeeds and downfalls from throughout beginningless time.
རྣམ་དཀར་ཚོགས་ལ་རྗེས་ཡི་རང་། །
namkar tsok la jé yi rang
I rejoice in all the accumulations of positive, virtuous deeds.
ཟབ་རྒྱའི་ཆོས་འཁོར་བསྐོར་བཞིན་དུ། །
zab gyé chökhor kor zhindu
I implore you to turn the wheel of Dharma, profound and vast,
མྱ་ངན་མི་འདའ་བཞུགས་གསོལ་འདེབས། །
nya ngen mi da zhuk soldeb
And to remain without passing into parinirvāṇa.
དགེ་བ་སེམས་ཅན་ཡོངས་ལ་བསྔོ། །
gewa semchen yong la ngo
I dedicate my virtuous deeds towards all sentient beings.
བླ་མེད་གོ་འཕང་མཆོག་ཐོབ་ཤོག །
lamé gopang chok tob shok
May we all attain the sublime and unsurpassable state.
ཅེས་ཅི་ནུས་བྱ།
Repeat these lines as many times as possible.
མོས་གུས་གདུང་བ་དྲག་པོའི་སྒོ་ནས།
Then, recite the following with intense, fervent devotion:
ཀྱཻ། དུས་གསུམ་སངས་རྒྱས་ཐམས་ཅད་ཀྱི། །
kyé, dü sum sangye tamché kyi
Kyé. Precious guru, glorious embodiment
སྤྱི་དཔལ་བླ་མ་རིན་པོ་ཆེ། །
chi pal lama rinpoche
Of all the buddhas of the three times,
ཁྱེད་ལ་གུས་པས་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །
khyé la güpé solwa deb
In devotion, I pray to you.
བཀའ་དྲིན་མཉམ་མེད་གུ་རུ་རྗེ། །
kadrin nyammé guru jé
Noble guru of incomparable kindness,
བདག་ལ་རེ་ས་གཞན་ན་མེད། །
dak la resa zhen namé
I have no other source of hope but you.
རྟག་ཏུ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་བརྩེར་དགོངས་ལ། །
taktu tukjé tser gong la
Always look upon me with loving compassion.
སྨིན་གྲོལ་དབང་བསྐུར་བྱིན་ཆེན་ཕོབ། །
mindrol wangkur jin chen pob
Shower down great blessings, confer empowerments that ripen and liberate,
བསམ་དོན་འགྲུབ་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
samdön drubpar jingyi lob
And bless me with the fulfilment of all my hopes and aspirations.
ཞེས་ཐུགས་དམ་བསྐུལ་བའི་གསོལ་འདེབས་དང་།
Recite this prayer for invoking the guru’s wisdom mind and repeat the mantra:
ཨོཾ་ཨཱཿཧཱུྃ་བཛྲ་གུ་རུ་པདྨ་སིདྡྷི་ཧཱུྃ།
om ah hung benza guru pema siddhi hung
oṃ āḥ hūṃ vajra guru padma siddhi hūṃ
ཞེས་བཟླས་པ་ཅི་འགྲུབ་བྱ།
Recite this as many times as possible.
Tsok Offering
ཚོགས་ཀྱི་མཆོད་པ་བྱ་བར་སྤྲོ་ན། བཟའ་བཏུང་གི་རིགས་གང་འབྱོར་བཤམ་ལ། ཆབ་ཀྱིས་བྲན་ཅིང་།
If you wish to practise tsok offering, arrange as many varieties of food and drink as you can afford, then sprinkle them with water and recite:
ཨ། རང་བྱུང་བདེ་སྐྱོང་སྣོད་ནང་དུ། །
ah, rangjung dekyong nö nang du
A. In the naturally arisen, bliss-sustaining vessel
བཟའ་བཏུང་ལོངས་སྤྱོད་དམ་ཚིག་རྫས། །
zatung longchö damtsik dzé
Are the samaya substances, delicious foods and drinks,
འདོད་ཡོན་རྒྱ་མཚོའི་སྤྲིན་ཕུང་འཕྲོ། །
döyön gyatsö trinpung tro
Which emanate cloud-banks of oceanic sensory delights
ཟག་མེད་ཡེ་ཤེས་བདུད་རྩིར་གྱུར། །
zakmé yeshe dütsir gyur
That transform into immaculate wisdom nectar.
ཨོཾ་ཨཱཿཧཱུྃ།
om ah hung
oṃ āḥ hūṃ
ཧཱུྃ། ཨོ་རྒྱན་ཡུལ་གྱི་ནུབ་བྱང་མཚམས། །
hung, orgyen yul gyi nubjang tsam
Hūṃ. In the north-west of the land of Oḍḍiyāna
པདྨ་གེ་སར་སྡོང་པོ་ལ། །
pema gesar dongpo la
In the heart of a lotus flower,
ཡ་མཚན་མཆོག་གི་དངོས་གྲུབ་བརྙེས། །
yatsen chok gi ngödrub nyé
Endowed with the most marvellous attainments,
པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་ཞེས་སུ་གྲགས། །
pema jungné zhé su drak
You are renowned as the ‘Lotus-born’,
འཁོར་དུ་མཁའ་འགྲོ་མང་པོས་བསྐོར། །
khor du khandro mangpö kor
Surrounded by many hosts of ḍākinīs
ཁྱེད་ཀྱི་རྗེས་སུ་བདག་སྒྲུབ་ཀྱི། །
khyé kyi jesu dak drub kyi
Following in your footsteps,
བྱིན་གྱིས་བརླབ་ཕྱིར་གཤེགས་སུ་གསོལ། །
jingyi lab chir shek su sol
I pray to you: Come, inspire me with your blessing!
ཧྲཱིཿ གུ་རུ་ཡིད་བཞིན་ནོར་བུ་ཆེ། །
hrih, guru yizhin norbu ché
Hrīḥ. To the Guru, great wish-fulfilling jewel,
རྩ་གསུམ་དམ་ཅན་ཚོགས་རྣམས་ལ། །
tsa sum damchen tsok nam la
The Three Roots and hosts of oath-bound guardians,
འདོད་ཡོན་ཚོགས་ཀྱི་མཆོད་པ་འབུལ། །
döyön tsok kyi chöpa bul
I present these feast offerings of sensory delights.
ཐུགས་དམ་གཉན་པོ་དབྱིངས་སུ་བསྐང་། །
tukdam nyenpo ying su kang
Let solemn pledges be fulfilled in all-pervading space.
དམ་ཚིག་ཉམས་ཆག་མཐོལ་ལོ་བཤགས། །
damtsik nyamchak tol lo shak
I confess impairments and breakages of samaya.
གཟུང་འཛིན་དགྲ་བགེགས་ཞལ་དུ་བསྟབ། །
zungdzin dragek zhal du tab
I serve up enemies and obstructors—my own dualistic perception.
བར་ཆད་ཀུན་སོལ་བསམ་དོན་སྒྲུབས། །
barché kün sol samdön drub
Dispel all obstacles, fulfil all aims and aspirations,
མཆོག་ཐུན་དངོས་གྲུབ་སྩལ་དུ་གསོལ། །
choktün ngödrub tsal du sol
And grant the attainments, ordinary and supreme.
སརྦ་ག་ཎ་ཙཀྲ་ལ་ཁཱ་ཧི།
sarva gana tsatra la khahi
sarva gaṇacakra [la] khāhi
Remainder
དེ་ནས་ཚོགས་ཀྱི་དམ་རྫས་ནང་གི་སྲེག་བླུགས་ཀྱིས་ལོངས་སྤྱད་པའི་ལྷག་མར་བདུད་རྩིས་བྲན་ལ།
Sprinkle nectar on whatever remains of the substances consumed through the inner fire offering of the gaṇacakra and recite:
ཨོཾ་ཨཱཿཧཱུྃ། ཕེཾ།
om ah hung pem
oṃ āḥ hūṃ. pheṃ.
ཚོགས་དང་བཀའ་ཉན་ལྷག་སྡུད་རྣམས། །
tsok dang kanyen lhak dü nam
Attendant guests who gather to receive the remainder,
ལྷག་མའི་འདོད་ཡོན་འདི་བཞེས་ལ། །
lhakmé döyön di zhé la
Accept these sensory delights of the remainder offering.
སྔོན་ཚེ་དཔལ་ཆེན་སྤྱན་སྔ་རུ། །
ngöntsé palchen chen nga ru
And carry out your activities just as you pledged
ཞལ་བཞེས་ཇི་བཞིན་ཕྲིན་ལས་མཛོད། །
zhalzhé jizhin trinlé dzö
In the past in the presence of the great awesome one.
ཨུཙྪིཥྚ་བ་ལིཾ་ཏ་ཁཱ་ཧི།
utsita balingta khahi
oṃ ucchiṣṭa baliṅte khāhi
ཞེས་ཕྱི་རོལ་དུ་འབུལ།
With this, make the offering outside.
ཧེ་རུ་ཀ་དཔལ་གྲོང་ཁྱེར་དུ། །
heruka pal drongkhyer du
By making this feast offering,
ཚོགས་ཀྱི་འཁོར་ལོ་བསྐོར་བ་ཡིས། །
tsok kyi khorlo korwa yi
To the city of Glorious Herukas,
བདག་གཞན་འགྲོ་བ་མ་ལུས་པ །
dakzhen drowa malüpa
May I and others, every single sentient being,
དཀྱིལ་འཁོར་གཅིག་ཏུ་འགྲུབ་པར་ཤོག །
kyilkhor chik tu drubpar shok
Attain realization within the same maṇḍala!
ཅེས་རྡོ་རྗེའི་རིགས་གཅིག་ཏུ་སྨོན་ལམ་གདབ།
With this, aspire towards the single vajra family.
Receiving the Four Empowerments
མཐར་དབང་བཞི་བླང་བ་ནི།
Finally, receive the four empowerments by reciting:
བླ་མ་བདེ་བ་ཆེན་པོ་ཡི། །
lama dewa chenpo yi
From the three vajra syllables of the three secrets
གསང་གསུམ་རྡོ་རྗེའི་འབྲུ་གསུམ་ལས། །
sang sum dorjé dru sum lé
Of the Great Bliss Guru, Dewa Chenpo,
འོད་ཟེར་རིམ་དང་གཅིག་ཆར་འཕྲོས། །
özer rim dang chikchar trö
Rays of light stream forth, in stages and all at once.
རང་གི་གནས་གསུམ་ལ་ཐིམ་པས། །
rang gi né sum la timpé
As they dissolve into my own three centres,
དབང་བཞི་ཐོབ་ཅིང་སྒྲིབ་བཞི་དག །
wang zhi tob ching drib zhi dak
I receive the four empowerments, purify the four obscurations,
འབྲས་བུ་སྐུ་བཞིའི་གསོས་ཐེབ་གྱུར། །
drebu ku zhi sö teb gyur
And activate the potential of the resultant four kāyas.
གུ་རུ་དགྱེས་པ་ཆེན་པོའི་ངང་། །
guru gyepa chenpö ngang
The Guru, who is in a state of intense delight,
འོད་དུ་ཞུ་ནས་རང་ལ་ཐིམ། །
ö du zhu né rang la tim
Melts into light and dissolves into me.
བླ་མའི་ཐུགས་དང་རང་གི་སེམས། །
lamé tuk dang rang gi sem
In the inseparability of the Guru’s wisdom and my own mind,
དབྱེར་མེད་འོད་གསལ་ཆོས་ཀྱི་སྐུ། །
yermé ösal chö kyi ku
There is the luminous dharmakāya,
རྩོལ་བྲལ་བློ་འདས་གདོད་མའི་གཤིས། །
tsoldral lodé dömé shi
The original nature, effortless and beyond the intellect,
ཀ་དག་རྫོགས་པ་ཆེན་པོའོ། །
kadak dzogpachenpo’o
Primordial purity, the Great Perfection.
ཞེས་གནས་ལུགས་ཀྱི་རང་ཞལ་ཅི་གནས་སུ་བསྐྱང་།
Sustain for as long as possible this experience of your own true face and fundamental nature.
Conclusion
རྗེས་ཐུན་ལས་ལྡང་བ་ན།
When you rise from the session, recite:
དགེ་བ་འདི་ཡིས་མྱུར་དུ་བདག །
gewa di yi nyurdu dak
Through the positivity and merit of this, may I swiftly
དཔལ་ལྡན་བླ་མ་འགྲུབ་གྱུར་ནས། །
palden lama drub gyur né
Attain the realization of the glorious Guru, and thereby
འགྲོ་བ་གཅིག་ཀྱང་མ་ལུས་པ། །
drowa chik kyang malüpa
Every single sentient being
དེ་ཡི་ས་ལ་འགོད་པར་ཤོག །
dé yi sa la göpar shok
Reach his state of perfection too.
སོགས་བསྔོ་སྨོན་དང་ཤིས་བརྗོད་ཀྱི་མཚམས་སྦྱར་ཏེ་སྣང་གྲགས་རྟོག་ཚོགས་བླ་མའི་གསང་བ་གསུམ་གྱི་རོལ་པར་བལྟས་ལ་མོས་གུས་ཀྱི་ལམ་ཁྱེར་དང་མ་བྲལ་བའི་ངང་ནས་སྤྱོད་ལམ་ཐམས་ཅད་དོན་ཡོད་པར་བྱའོ། །
Conclude with other such prayers of dedication and aspiration as well as verses of auspiciousness. Then, make all your daily activities purposeful by considering all sights, sounds and thoughts to be expressions of the Guru’s three secrets, and never separating from the integrated path of devotion.
ཞེས་པའང་རྣམ་པར་དགེ་བའི་བློ་གསལ་བ་ཐུབ་བསྟན་ཤེས་རབ་གོ་ཆ་དང་དགེ་སློང་བསམ་གཏན་རྒྱ་མཚོ་སོགས་མོས་ལྡན་འགའ་ཞིག་གིས་བསྐུལ་བའི་ངོར། ཁྱབ་བདག་མཚོ་སྐྱེས་བླ་མའི་བཀའ་འབངས་འཇིགས་བྲལ་ཡེ་ཤེས་རྡོ་རྗེས་ས་སྤྱོད་སྤྲུལ་པའི་ཞིང་ཁམས་ཀུན་འདུས་རྡོར་སེམས་ཕོ་བྲང་གི་མགུལ་དུ་སྦྱར་བ་དགེ་ལེགས་མཆོག་གི་རྒྱུར་གྱུར་ཅིག །སརྦ་མངྒ་ལཾ།། །།
Thus, in response to requests from several devoted students, including Tubten Sherab Gocha, who possesses a clear, wholly virtuous mind, and the monk Samten Gyatso, I, Jigdral Yeshe Dorje, a subject of the sovereign Lake-Born Guru, composed this on the slopes of the All-Embodying Palace of Vajrasattva in the emanated pure realm.2May it become a cause of supreme virtue and excellence! Sarva maṅgalam.
