Lineage Prayer for the Roaring Laughter of the Ḍākinīs, the Chöd Practice from the Heart-Essence of the Vast Expanse

ཕཊཿ ཧཱུྃ་ཧཱུྃ་ཧཱུྃ། གདོད་མའི་མགོན་པོ་ཀུན་བཟང་ལྷ་ཡི་ལྷ། །
pé, hung hung hung, dömé gönpo kunzang lha yi lha
Phaṭ. Hūṃ hūṃ hūṃ. Primordial protector Samantabhadra, deity of deities;
ཡུམ་ཆེན་ཤེར་ཕྱིན་རིགས་ལྔ་རྡོ་རྗེ་འཆང་། །
yumchen sherchin rik nga dorjé chang
Great Mother Prajñāpāramitā, Five Buddha families and Vajradhara—
ཐུབ་དབང་སྐུ་གསུམ་སྟོན་པའི་བླ་མ་ལ། །
tubwang ku sum tönpé lama la
To you, gurus who reveal the three kāyas, the mighty sages,
གསོལ་བ་འདེབས་སོ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
solwa deb so tukjé jingyi lob
I pray: bless me with your compassion!
ཧཱུྃ་ཧཱུྃ་ཧཱུྃ། ཟུང་འཇུག་འཕོ་ཆེན་ཡེ་ཤེས་དྭངས་མའི་སྐུ། །
hung hung hung, zungjuk po chen yeshe dangmé ku
Hūṃ hūṃ hūṃ. Your form is the radiance of the wisdom of union, the great transference:
དགའ་རབ་པད་འབྱུང་བི་མ་རྗེ་འབངས་གྲོགས། །
garab pejung bi ma jebang drok
Garab Dorje, Padmākara, Vimalamitra; the King, the Subject and Companion—
འོད་གསལ་རྫོགས་ཆེན་བརྒྱུད་པའི་བླ་མ་ལ། །
ösal dzogchen gyüpé lama la
To you, lineage gurus of the luminous Great Perfection,
གསོལ་བ་འདེབས་སོ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
solwa deb so tukjé jingyi lob
I pray: bless me with your compassion!
ཧཱུྃ་ཧཱུྃ་ཧཱུྃ། གཞི་དབྱིངས་ཁྱབ་བརྡལ་ལྷུན་འབྱམས་ས་ར་ཧ། །
hung hung hung, zhi ying khyabdal lhün jam sa ra ha
Hūṃ hūṃ hūṃ. Saraha, who realized the all-pervading ground-expanse, spontaneous and vast;
ཏེ་ལོ་ནཱ་རོ་མེ་ཏྲི་མར་མི་དྭགས། །
telo naro metri mar mi dak
Tilopa, Nāropa, Maitrīpa, Marpa and Milarepa—
ཟུང་འཇུག་ཕྱག་ཆེན་བརྒྱུད་པའི་བླ་མ་ལ། །
zungjuk chakchen gyüpé lama la
To you, lineage gurus of the Mahāmudrā of union,
གསོལ་བ་འདེབས་སོ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །

Hūṃ hūṃ hūṃ. Noble Nāgārjuna, who beheld the truth free from extremes,
འཛམ་གླིང་རྒྱན་དྲུག་ཟླ་གྲགས་ཨ་ཏི་ཤ །
dzamling gyen druk dadrak atisha
The Six Ornaments of Jambudvīpa, Candrakīrti and Atiśa—
ཟབ་ལམ་དབུ་མ་བརྒྱུད་པའི་བླ་མ་ལ། །
zablam uma gyüpé lama la
To the lineage gurus of the profound path of Madhyamaka,
གསོལ་བ་འདེབས་སོ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
solwa deb so tukjé jingyi lob
I pray: bless me with your compassion!
ཧཱུྃ་ཧཱུྃ་ཧཱུྃ། བརྟུལ་ཞུགས་གྲུབ་པའི་དྲང་སྲོང་ལཱུ་ཧི་པ། །
hung hung hung, tulzhuk drubpé drangsong luhipa
Hūṃ hūṃ hūṃ. Luipa, the sage who accomplished yogic conduct,
ནག་པོ་པ་དང་དྲིལ་བུ་བིཪྺ་པ། །
nakpo pa dang drilbu birwapa
Kṛṣṇācārya, Ghaṇṭāpāda, Virūpa,
ཌཱོཾ་བྷི་ལ་སོགས་གྲུབ་ཐོབ་རྒྱ་མཚོ་ལ། །
dombhi lasok drubtob gyatso la
Ḍombi Heruka, and the ocean of siddhas—
གསོལ་བ་འདེབས་སོ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
solwa deb so tukjé jingyi lob
To you I pray: bless me with your compassion!
ཧཱུྃ་ཧཱུྃ་ཧཱུྃ། འཇམ་དབྱངས་སྒྲོལ་མ་སུ་ཁ་སིདྡྷི་དང་། །
hung hung hung, jamyang drolma sukha siddhi dang
Hūṃ hūṃ hūṃ. Mañjuśrī, Tārā, Sukhāsiddhī,
ཨཱརྱ་དེ་ཝ་དམ་པ་ལབ་ཀྱི་སྒྲོན། །
aryadeva dampa lab kyi drön
Āryadeva, Dampa Sangye, and Machik Labdrön—
གཅོད་ཡུལ་བྱིན་རླབས་བརྒྱུད་པའི་བླ་མ་ལ། །
chö yul jinlab gyüpé lama la
To you, the blessed lineage gurus of Chöd,
གསོལ་བ་འདེབས་སོ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
solwa deb so tukjé jingyi lob
I pray: bless me with your compassion!
ཧཱུྃ་ཧཱུྃ་ཧཱུྃ། ཐེག་མཆོག་འཁོར་ལོས་བསྒྱུར་བ་ཀློང་ཆེན་པ། །
hung hung hung, tek chok khorlö gyurwa longchenpa
Hūṃ hūṃ hūṃ. Longchenpa, the universal sovereign of the Supreme Vehicle;
དོན་བརྒྱུད་འཕོ་བ་ཐོབ་པ་འཇིགས་མེད་གླིང་། །
dön gyü powa tobpa jikme ling
Jigme Lingpa, who realized the ultimate lineage,
གྲུབ་པའི་དབང་ཕྱུག་ཀུན་བཟང་གཞན་ཕན་ལ། །
drubpé wangchuk kunzang zhenpen la
And Kunzang Zhenpen,1 the lord of siddhas—
གསོལ་བ་འདེབས་སོ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
solwa deb so tukjé jingyi lob
To you I pray: bless me with your compassion!
ཧཱུྃ་ཧཱུྃ་ཧཱུྃ། དོན་གཉིས་མཐར་ཕྱིན་རྒྱལ་བའི་མྱུ་གུའི་ཞབས། །
hung hung hung, dön nyi tarchin gyalwé nyugü zhab
Hūṃ hūṃ hūṃ. The sublime Gyalwé Nyugu, who perfected the twofold benefit;
པདྨའི་ལུང་ཟིན་རྡོ་རྗེའི་མཚན་ལྡན་བཞི། །
pemé lung zin dorjé tsenden zhi
The four who were prophesied by Padmasambhava and bear the name Dorje;2
འཇིགས་མེད་རྣལ་འབྱོར་མཁྱེན་བརྩེའི་དབང་ཕྱུག་ལ། །
jikme naljor khyentsé wangchuk la
And the fearless yogin Jigme Khyentse Wangchuk—3
གསོལ་བ་འདེབས་སོ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
solwa deb so tukjé jingyi lob
To you I pray: bless me with your compassion!
ཧཱུྃ་ཧཱུྃ་ཧཱུྃ། འོད་གསལ་གཉུག་མའི་དོན་གཟིགས་ཆོས་ཀྱི་དབང་། །
hung hung hung, ösal nyukmé dön zik chö kyi wang
Hūṃ hūṃ hūṃ. Chökyi Wangpo, who beheld the meaning of innate luminosity;4
ཐེག་དགུའི་གསང་མཛོད་པདྨ་བཛྲ་པ། །
tek gü sangdzö pema benzapa
Pema Vajra, keeper of the nine vehicles’ secret treasury;5
བཀའ་བབས་བདུན་ལྡན་སྤྲུལ་པའི་རྡོ་རྗེ་ལ། །
kabab dünden trulpé dorjé la
And Trulpe Dorje, holder of the seven authentic transmissions—6
གསོལ་བ་འདེབས་སོ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
solwa deb so tukjé jingyi lob
To you I pray: bless me with your compassion!
ཧཱུྃ་ཧཱུྃ་ཧཱུྃ། ཕཊཿ རྩ་བ་བརྒྱུད་པའི་བླ་མ་ཐམས་ཅད་ལ། །
hung hung hung, pé, tsawa gyüpé lama tamché la
Hūṃ hūṃ hūṃ. Phaṭ. To all the root and lineage gurus,
མོས་གུས་གདུང་ཤུགས་དྲག་པོས་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །
mögü dungshuk drakpö solwa deb
I pray with fierce devotion and ardent longing—
གཟུང་འཛིན་སྙེམ་ཐག་ཆོད་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
zungdzin nyem takchöpar jingyi lob
Bless me that the rope of dualistic grasping and conceit be cut!
རང་སེམས་སྐྱེ་མེད་རྟོགས་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
rangsem kyemé tokpar jingyi lob
Bless me to realize my own mind as unborn!
གཉན་ས་རི་ཁྲོད་ཟིན་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
nyen sa ritrö zinpar jingyi lob
Bless me to embrace unsettling places and mountain wildernesses!
ཕུང་པོ་གཟན་དུ་མཐོང་བར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
pungpo zen du tongwar jingyi lob
Bless me to see the aggregates as food to be offered!
དགོས་མེད་རྒྱུད་ལ་སྐྱེ་བར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
gömé gyü la kyewar jingyi lob
Bless me that renunciation arise in my being!
ལྷ་འདྲེའི་འགྲོ་དོན་ནུས་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
lha dré dro dön nüpar jingyi lob
Bless me to benefit beings—gods and demons alike!
རྐྱེན་ངན་ལམ་དུ་ལོངས་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
kyen ngen lam du longpar jingyi lob
Bless me to take adverse conditions onto the path!
འགལ་རྐྱེན་གྲོགས་སུ་འཆར་བར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
galkyen drok su charwar jingyi lob
Bless me that obstacles arise as allies!
བདག་འཛིན་བློ་ཡིས་ཐོང་བར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
dakdzin lo yi tongwar jingyi lob
Bless me to mentally relinquish self-grasping!
བདག་མེད་གནས་ལུགས་རྟོགས་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
dakmé neluk tokpar jingyi lob
Bless me to realise selflessness, the natural state!
སྟོང་ཉིད་སྙིང་རྗེ་འབྱོངས་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
tongnyi nyingjé jongpar jingyi lob
Bless me to be skilled in emptiness and compassion!
རང་གཞན་དོན་གཉིས་འགྲུབ་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
rangzhen dön nyi drubpar jingyi lob
Bless me to accomplish the twofold benefit of self and others!
ད་ལྟ་མྱུར་བ་ཉིད་དུ་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
danta nyurwa nyi du jingyi lob
Bless me now, ever so swiftly!
འདུག་ས་སྟན་ཐོག་འདི་རུ་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས།
duk sa ten tok diru jingyi lob
Bless me right here, on this very seat!
ཕཊཿ ཕཊཿ ཕཊཿ
pé pé pé
phaṭ phaṭ phaṭ
ཅེས་པའང་སྒྲུབ་བརྒྱུད་བསྟན་པའི་ཤིང་རྟ་ཁམས་སྤྲུལ་རིན་པོ་ཆེ་བསྟན་པའི་ཉི་མའི་ཞལ་སྔ་ནས་མཚོ་སྐྱེས་རྗེའི་སྣང་བརྙན་ལྷ་རྫས་དང་བཅས་བཀའ་སྩལ་སྤྱི་བོར་ཕེབས་པ་དང་དུ་བླངས་ཏེ་སྤྲུལ་གཟུགས་ཀུན་ཏུ་རྒྱུ་བ་ཆོས་དཔལ་རྒྱ་མཚོ་པས་ཀུན་མཁྱེན་སྐྱབས་འོག་རྫོང་སར་བཀྲ་ཤིས་ལྷ་རྩེར་བྲིས་པ་དགེ། །།
Thus, when Khamtrul Rinpoche Tenpe Nyima, that charioteer of the practice lineage, presented me with a portrait of the Lake-born Lord and a silk scarf, and issued his command, I, the vagabond Chöpal Gyatso who merely keeps up the appearance of a tulku, wrote this at Dzongsar Tashi Lhatse while under the protection of the omniscient guru. May it be virtuous!
