Prayer to Gyurme Tsewang Gyatso1

by Jamyang Khyentse Chökyi Lodrö

döné gyurmé dechen dorjé kham

I pray to the lord of the maṇḍala, seated amidst an ocean

pogyur dralwé tsewang rigpa dzin

Of absolute perfection, the purified dependent nature,

zhenwang dakpa yongdrub gyatsö ling

A vidyādhara with power over unchanging longevity,

zhuk dzé khorlö gönpor solwa deb

In primordially immutable and vajra-like great bliss.2

jamyang lamé jin gyi labpa lé

Through the blessings of the Mañjughoṣa Guru,3

zabgyé chö tsul norbü dzö chang shing

You came to hold a treasury of Dharma jewels, profound and vast,

pomé tiklé umar rab chingpa

And perfectly bound the bindu within the central channel—

tsultrim tsenden lamar solwa deb

Guru of genuine discipline, to you I pray.

lo tsa chenpo nampar nang dzé kyi

Dance-like emanation, magical embodiment of the wisdom

sang sum yeshe drawé gyutrul gar

Of the three secrets of the great translator Vairotsana,

nyikdü drowa dulwé trinlé chen

Your activity to train the beings of this degenerate age—

chimé nang dzé dorjé solwa deb

Chimé Nangdzé Dorje,4 to you I pray.

  1. The original is untitled; this title has been added by the translator. This text appears three times in the 2012 edition of Jamyang Khyentse Chökyi Lodrö’s collected writings, twice on its own and once as part of a longer prayer for the master’s swift rebirth: https://www.lotsawahouse.org/tibetan-masters/jamyang-khyentse-chokyi-lodro/gyurme-tsewang-gyatso-swift-rebirth
  2. The lines of this verse incorporate the syllables of the name Gyurme Tsewang Gyatso.
  3. A reference to Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo (1820–1892), Gyurme Tsewang Gyatso's main teacher.
  4. This is Gyurme Tsewang Gyatso's secret name, which he received when Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo conferred the empowerment of Chimé Pakmé Nyingtik ('chi med 'phags ma'i snying thig), 'The Heart-Essence of the Sublime Lady of Immortality'.
