Empowerments of the Eight Symbols, Eight Substances and Seven Emblems¹

སྐྱབས་སུ་འགྲོ་བ་ནི།

Taking Refuge

དཀོན་མཆོག་གསུམ་ལ་བདག་སྐྱབས་མཆི།  །

könchok sum la dak kyab chi

I take refuge in the Three Jewels.

སྡིག་པ་ཐམས་ཅད་སོ་སོར་བཤགས།  །

dikpa tamché sosor shak

I confess each and every one of my misdeeds.

འགྲོ་བའི་དགེ་ལ་རྗེས་ཡི་རང་།  །

drowé gé la jé yi rang

I rejoice in the virtues of beings.

སངས་རྒྱས་བྱང་ཆུབ་ཡིད་ཀྱིས་བཟུང་།  །

sangye changchub yi kyi zung

I keep the buddhas and bodhisattvas in mind.

སངས་རྒྱས་ཆོས་དང་ཚོགས་མཆོག་ལ།  །

sangye chö dang tsok chok la

In the Buddha, the Dharma and the Supreme Assembly,

བྱང་ཆུབ་བར་དུ་སྐྱབས་སུ་མཆི།  །

changchub bardu kyab su chi

I take refuge until I attain awakening.

རང་གཞན་དོན་གཉིས་རབ་སྒྲུབ་ཕྱིར།  །

rangzhen dön nyi rab drub chir

To accomplish my own and others’ aims,

བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་ནི་བསྐྱེད་པར་བགྱི།  །

changchub sem ni kyepar gyi

I generate the mind of awakening.

བྱང་ཆུབ་མཆོག་གི་སེམས་ནི་བསྐྱེད་བགྱིས་ནས།  །

changchub chok gi sem ni kyé gyi né

Having generated this supreme mind of bodhicitta,

སེམས་ཅན་ཐམས་ཅད་བདག་གིས་མགྲོན་དུ་གཉེར།  །

semchen tamché dak gi drön du nyer

I shall treat all sentient beings as my guests,

བྱང་ཆུབ་སྤྱོད་མཆོག་ཡིད་འོང་སྤྱད་པར་བགྱི།  །

changchub chö chok yi ong chepar gyi

And undertake the sublime bodhisattva conduct.

འགྲོ་ལ་ཕན་ཕྱིར་སངས་རྒྱས་འགྲུབ་པར་ཤོག  །

dro la pen chir sangye drubpar shok

May I attain buddhahood in order to benefit beings.

ཅེས་པ་དང་དེ་ནས་རང་གཞུང་པ་འཇུག་པར་བྱའོ།  །

༁ྃ༔  རྟགས་བརྒྱད་ནི།

Eight Auspicious Symbols

ཧཱུྃ༔  སངས་རྒྱས་བསོད་ནམས་རྫོགས་པའི་མཚན་དཔེ་ལས༔

hung sangye sönam dzokpé tsenpé lé

Hūṃ. Through empowering this fortunate child here and now

ལེགས་པར་བྱུང་བའི་བཀྲ་ཤིས་རྟགས་བརྒྱད་ཀྱི༔

lekpar jungwé tashi tak gyé kyi

With the eight auspicious symbols that perfect arose

དེང་འདིར་སྐལ་ལྡན་བུ་ལ་དབང་བསྐུར་བས༔

dengdir kalden bu la wangkurwé

From the marks and signs of Buddha’s perfect merit,

བཀྲ་ཤིས་ཡོན་ཏན་ཕུན་སུམ་ཚོགས་པར་ཤོག༔

tashi yönten pünsum tsokpar shok

May you enjoy abundant qualities of auspiciousness!

ཨཊྚ་མངྒ་ལཾ་ཨ་བྷི་ཥིཉྩ་ཧཱུྃ༔

ata mangalam abhikintsa hung

aṣṭa-maṅgalam-abhiṣiñca hūṃ

རྫས་བརྒྱད་ནི༔

Eight Auspicious Substances

སྔོན་ཚེ་བཅོམ་ལྡན་ཐུབ་པའི་དབང་པོ་ལ༔

ngöntsé chomden tubpé wangpo la

With the supreme auspicious substances,

བསོད་ནམས་མཐུ་ལྡན་ཚངས་པ་ལ་སོགས་པས༔

sönam tuden tsangpa lasokpé

Which Brahmā and others with powerful merit

ཕུལ་བའི་ཡོན་ཏན་རྫས་མཆོག་བཀྲ་ཤིས་ཀྱི༔

pulwé yönten dzé chok tashi kyi

Offered to the blessed Lord of Sages in the past,

དེང་འདིར་སྐལ་ལྡན་བུ་ལ་དབང་བསྐུར་རོ༔

dengdir kalden bu la wangkur ro

This fortunate child is empowered here and now.

མངྒ་ལཾ་ཨ་བྷི་ཥིཉྩ་ཧཱུྃ༔

mangalam abhikintsa hung

maṅgalam-abhiṣiñca hūṃ

སྣ་བདུན་ནི༔

Seven Emblems of Royalty

འཁོར་ལོས་སྒྱུར་རྒྱལ་མཐུས་བྱུང་རྒྱལ་སྲིད་བདུན༔

khorlö gyur gyal tü junggyal si dün

Through investing this fortunate child here and now

དེང་འདིར་སྐལ་ལྡན་བུ་ལ་མངའ་གསོལ་བའི༔

dengdir kalden bu la ngasolwé

With the seven emblems that arose through the Cakravartin’s sovereign power,

དབང་མཆོག་བསྐུར་བའི་བསོད་ནམས་ཚོགས་རྫོགས་ཏེ༔

wang chok kurwé sönam tsok dzok té

May you perfect the accumulation of merit that supreme empowerment confers

འཁོར་ལོས་སྒྱུར་བའི་ཡོན་ཏན་ཐོབ་པར་ཤོག༔

khorlö gyurwé yönten tobpar shok

And gain the qualities of a universal monarch!

མ་ཎི་རཏྣ་ཨ་བྷི་ཥིཉྩ་ཧཱུྃ༔

mani ratna abhikintsa hung

Maṇi-ratna-abhiṣiñca hūṃ

གཏེར་གཞུང་ལས་སོ།  །

ཤིས་བརྗོད་བྱ་བ་ནི།

Verse of Auspiciousness

མི་འཁྲུགས་རྒྱལ་པོ་སྲིད་དང་གཏི་མུག་རྣམ་སྦྱོངས་བ།  །

mi truk gyalpo si dang timuk nam jongwa

Kingly Akṣobhya purifies conditioned existence and delusion.

མགོན་པོ་ཡོན་ཏན་ཐམས་ཅད་རྫོགས་པའི་བཀྲ་ཤིས་གང་ཡིན་དང་།  །

gönpo yönten tamché dzokpé tashi gang yin dang

The auspiciousness of this lord’s perfection of all qualities

དགེ་མཉམ་བསམ་སེམས་རྫོགས་པའི་བཀྲ་ཤིས་གང་ལགས་པ།  །

gé nyam sam sem dzokpé tashi gang lakpa

And the auspiciousness of a perfect mind of equal virtue—

བཀྲ་ཤིས་དེས་ཀྱང་དེང་འདིར་ཞི་བྱེད་ལེགས་གྱུར་ཅིག  །།།

tashi dé kyang dengdir zhijé lek gyur chik

Through this auspiciousness, may perfect peace prevail here and now!²

 

དྲི་མེད་ཞིང་གིས་བསྒྲིགས་པའི་མི་འཁྲུགས་པའི་ཆོ་ག་ལས་སོ།།   །།མངྒ་ལཾ།  །དགེ་ལེགས་འཕེལ།།   །།
