Brief Prayer to the Earlier and Later Terma Lineages

from the Compendium of Sādhanas

 

ཧཱུྃ༔ ཨོ་རྒྱན་ཡུལ་གྱི་ནུབ་བྱང་མཚམས༔

hung, orgyen yul gyi nubjang tsam

Hūṃ! In the north-west of the land of Oḍḍiyāna

པདྨ་གེ་སར་སྡོང་པོ་ལ༔

pema gesar dongpo la

In the heart of a lotus flower,

ཡ་མཚན་མཆོག་གི་དངོས་གྲུབ་བརྙེས༔

yatsen chok gi ngödrub nyé

Endowed with the most marvellous attainments,

པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་ཞེས་སུ་གྲགས༔

pema jungné zhé su drak

You are renowned as the ‘Lotus-born’,

འཁོར་དུ་མཁའ་འགྲོ་མང་པོས་བསྐོར༔

khor du khandro mangpö kor

Surrounded by many hosts of ḍākinīs.

ཁྱེད་ཀྱི་རྗེས་སུ་བདག་བསྒྲུབ་ཀྱི༔

khyé kyi jesu dak drub kyi

Following in your footsteps,

བྱིན་གྱིས་བརླབ་ཕྱིར་གཤེགས་སུ་གསོལ༔

jingyi lab chir shek su sol

I pray to you: Come, inspire me with your blessing!

གུ་རུ་པདྨ་སིདྡྷི་ཧཱུྃ༔

guru pema siddhi hung

guru padma siddhi hūṃ

 

དཔལ་ལྡན་རྩ་བའི་བླ་མ་རིན་པོ་ཆེ། །

palden tsawé lama rinpoche

Glorious root guru, precious one,

བདག་གི་སྤྱི་བོར་པདྨའི་གདན་བཞུགས་ལ།

dak gi chiwor pemé den zhuk la

Dwell on the lotus-seat on the crown of my head,

བཀའ་དྲིན་ཆེན་པོའི་སྒོ་ནས་རྗེས་བཟུང་སྟེ། །

kadrin chenpö goné jezung té

Look upon me with the grace of your great compassion,

སྐུ་གསུང་ཐུགས་ཀྱི་དངོས་གྲུབ་སྩལ་དུ་གསོལ། །

ku sung tuk kyi ngödrub tsal du sol

Grant me the attainments of body, speech and mind!

 

ཨེ་མ་ཧོཿ སྤྲོས་བྲལ་ཆོས་ཀྱི་དབྱིངས་ཀྱི་ཞིང་ཁམས་སུ༔

emaho, trödral chö kyi ying kyi zhingkham su

Emaho! In the pure realm of the dharmadhātu, of natural simplicity,

ཆོས་ཉིད་དུས་གསུམ་སྐྱེ་འགག་མེད་པའི་ངང་༔

chönyi dü sum kye gak mepé ngang

Within the intrinsic nature of reality, forever unborn, unceasing throughout the whole of time,

བྱ་བྲལ་ལྷུན་རྫོགས་བདེ་བ་ཆེན་པོའི་སྐུ༔

jadral lhün dzok dewa chenpö ku

You dwell, as the body of great bliss, free from activity, spontaneously perfect,

ནམ་མཁའ་བཞིན་དུ་ཐུགས་རྗེ་ཕྱོགས་རིས་མེད༔

namkha zhindu tukjé chokri mé

Your compassion impartial and unbiased, like the sky:

བླ་མ་ཆོས་ཀྱི་སྐུ་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

lama chö kyi ku la solwa deb

Dharmakāya Lama, to you we pray!

ཨོ་རྒྱན་པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

orgyen pema jungné la solwa deb

To the Lotus-born Guru of Orgyen, we pray!

 

བདེ་ཆེན་ལྷུན་གྱིས་གྲུབ་པའི་ཞིང་ཁམས་སུ༔

dechen lhün gyi drubpé zhingkham su

In the pure realm of Great Bliss, spontaneously present,

སྐུ་གསུང་ཐུགས་དང་ཡོན་ཏན་ཕྲིན་ལས་ཀྱི༔

ku sung tuk dang yönten trinlé kyi

Dwells the embodiment of all sugatas, with the five wisdoms

ཡེ་ཤེས་ལྔ་ལྡན་བདེ་བར་གཤེགས་པའི་སྐུ༔

yeshe ngaden dewar shekpé ku

Of body, speech, mind, qualities, and enlightened action,

ཐུགས་རྗེའི་བྱེ་བྲག་སྣ་ཚོགས་སོ་སོར་སྟོན༔

tukjé jedrak natsok sosor tön

Appearing to different beings in all kinds of compassionate forms,

བླ་མ་ལོངས་སྤྱོད་རྫོགས་སྐུ་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

lama longchö dzok ku la solwa deb

Saṃbhogakāya Lama, to you we pray!

ཨོ་རྒྱན་པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

orgyen pema jungné la solwa deb

To the Lotus-born Guru of Orgyen, we pray!

 

མི་མཇེད་འཇིག་རྟེན་དག་པའི་ཞིང་ཁམས་སུ༔

mijé jikten dakpé zhingkham su

Into this pure realm of our world of Endurance,

ཐུགས་རྗེ་ཆེན་པོས་འགྲོ་བའི་དོན་ལ་བྱོན༔

tukjé chenpö drowé dön la jön

Out of your great compassion, you have come, to bring benefit to beings,

གང་ལ་གང་འདུལ་ཐབས་ཀྱིས་འགྲོ་དོན་མཛད༔

gang la gang dul tab kyi dro dön dzé

Skilfully helping them by taming each according to their needs,

འདས་དང་མ་བྱོན་ད་ལྟ་དུས་གསུམ་གྱི༔

dé dang majön danta dü sum gyi

Throughout the whole span of past, future, and present,

བླ་མ་སྤྲུལ་པའི་སྐུ་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

lama trulpé ku la solwa deb

Nirmāṇakāya Lama, to you we pray!

ཨོ་རྒྱན་པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

orgyen pema jungné la solwa deb

To the Lotus-born Guru of Orgyen, we pray!

 

ཀུན་བཟང་རྡོར་སེམས་དགའ་རབ་ཤྲཱི་སིང༌། །

kunzang dorsem garab shiri sing

Samantabhadra, Vajrasattva, Garab Dorje, Śrī Siṃha,

པདྨཱ་ཀ་ར་རྗེ་འབངས་ཉི་ཤུ་ལྔ། །

pema kara jebang nyishu nga

Padmākara and the twenty-five disciples—king and subjects,

སོ་ཟུར་གནུབས་དང་གཏེར་སྟོན་བརྒྱ་རྩ་སོགས། །

so zur nub dang tertön gyatsa sok

So, Zur, Nub, the hundred treasure-revealers and all the rest—

བཀའ་གཏེར་བླ་མ་རྣམས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

kater lama nam la solwa deb

Gurus of Kama and Terma, I pray to you.

 

མངའ་བདག་སྐུ་སྤྲུལ་ལྷོ་བྲག་གཏམ་ཤུལ་འཁྲུངས། །

ngadak ku trul lhodrak tam shul trung

Body emanation of King Trisong Detsen, born in Lhodrak Tamshul,

སྲིན་སྦར་མཁོ་མཐིང་ཐུགས་ཆེན་བདེར་འདུས་སོགས། །

sinbar kho ting tukchen der dü sok

From Sinbar and Khoting you revealed the Great Compassionate One, Embodiment of Sugatas

ཟབ་ཆོས་མཛོད་འཆང་གཏེར་འབྱེད་སྤྱི་མེས་མཆོག །

zab chö dzö chang ter jé chimé chok

And other treasures of profound Dharma, supreme forefather,

གོང་མ་ཉི་མ་འོད་ཟེར་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

gongma nyima özer la solwa deb

Nyangrel Nyima Özer, master of earlier times, to you I pray!

 

དེ་འོག་ཞིང་དེར་སྤང་སྟོན་གྲུབ་པའི་སྲས། །

dé ok zhing der pang tön drubpé sé

Following him came the son of the adapt Pangtön

བོད་ཡུལ་གཏེར་གཅིག་གནམ་སྐས་མཁར་ཆུ་སོགས། །

böyul ter chik nam ké khar chu sok

Guru Chöwang, sole treasure of the land of Tibet,

བཅོ་བརྒྱད་སྒོ་འབྱེད་གུ་རུ་ཆོས་དབང་ཞེས། །

chobgyé gojé guru chö wang zhé

And revealer of eighteen major treasures from Namkhé, Kharchu and elsewhere—

འབྲེལ་ཚད་དོན་ལྡན་ཆེན་པོ་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

dreltsé dönden chenpo la solwa deb

Great master who benefitted all with a connection, to you I pray.

 

འགྲོ་བའི་མགོན་པོ་པདྨ་དབང་ཆེན་དང་། །

drowé gönpo pema wangchen dang

Protector of beings, Pema Wangchen,

མྱོས་སྟོན་ཞིག་པོ་མི་བསྐྱོད་རྡོ་རྗེ་སོགས། །

nyö tön zhikpo mikyö dorjé sok

Teacher of Nyö, Zhikpo, Mikyö Dorje and the rest—

སྲས་དང་སློབ་མ་རིམ་པར་བྱོན་པ་ཡི། །

sé dang lobma rimpar jönpa yi

Successive spiritual heirs and disciples,

བརྒྱུད་པའི་བླ་མ་རྣམས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

gyüpé lama nam la solwa deb

Gurus of the lineage, to you I pray.

 

འོག་མིན་ཆོས་ཀྱི་དབྱིངས་ཀྱི་ཕོ་བྲང་དུ། །

womin chö kyi ying kyi podrang du

In the heavenly palace of the dharmadhātu

དུས་གསུམ་སངས་རྒྱས་ཀུན་གྱི་ངོ་བོ་ཉིད། །

dü sum sangye kün gyi ngowo nyi

Dwells the embodiment of all buddhas, past, present and future.

རང་སེམས་ཆོས་སྐུ་མངོན་དུ་སྟོན་མཛད་པའི། །

rangsem chöku ngön du tön dzepé

You who have shown me the dharmakāya nature of my mind,

རྩ་བའི་བླ་མའི་ཞབས་ལ་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

tsawé lamé zhab la solwa deb

Root guru, at your feet I pray.

 

བླ་མ་སྐུ་ཁམས་བཟང་བར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

lama kukham zangwar solwa deb

I pray that the guru may remain in the finest health.

མཆོག་ཏུ་སྐུ་ཚེ་རིང་བར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

chok tu kutsé ringwar solwa deb

I pray that the guru’s life may be supremely long.

ཕྲིན་ལས་དར་ཞིང་རྒྱས་པར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

trinlé dar zhing gyepar solwa deb

I pray that the guru’s activity may flourish and spread.

བླ་མ་དང་འབྲལ་བ་མེད་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །

lama dang dralwa mepar jingyi lob

Bless me, that I may never be apart from the guru.

 

སྐྱེ་བ་ཀུན་ཏུ་ཡང་དག་བླ་མ་དང་། །

kyewa küntu yangdak lama dang

In all my lives, may I never be separated from the perfect guru,

འབྲལ་མེད་ཆོས་ཀྱི་དཔལ་ལ་ལོངས་སྤྱོད་དེ། །

dralmé chö kyi pal la longchö dé

And having benefited fully from the splendour of the Dharma,

ས་དང་ལམ་གྱི་ཡོན་ཏན་རབ་རྫོགས་ནས། །

sa dang lam gyi yönten rabdzok né

May I perfect the qualities of the five paths and ten stages,

རྡོ་རྗེ་འཆང་གི་གོ་འཕང་མྱུར་ཐོབ་ཤོག །

dorjé chang gi gopang nyur tob shok

And swiftly attain the sublime level of Vajradhara.

 

ཁྱེད་རྣམས་བསྟོད་ཅིང་གསོལ་བ་བཏབ་པའི་མཐུས། །

khyé nam tö ching solwa tabpé tü

Through the power of our praising and praying to you,

བདག་སོགས་གང་དུ་གནས་པའི་ས་ཕྱོགས་སུ། །

dak sok gangdu nepé sachok su

In whatever lands we dwell,

ནད་གདོན་དབུལ་ཕོངས་འཐབ་རྩོད་ཞི་བ་དང་། །

nedön ulpong tabtsö zhiwa dang

May illness, negativity, poverty, and conflict be quelled,

ཆོས་དང་བཀྲ་ཤིས་འཕེལ་བར་མཛད་དུ་གསོལ། །

chö dang tashi pelwar dzé du sol

And Dharma and auspiciousness increase and spread.

 

ཅེས་པ་གཏེར་ཁ་གོང་འོག་གི་བརྒྱུད་འདེབས་མདོར་བསྡུས་རིག་འཛིན་བརྒྱུད་པའི་གསུང་རྒྱུན་ལས་བྱུང་བ་ལྟར་བྲིས་པ་དགེ།།
