Prayer to Behold Amitābha in Dreams

ཆོས་སྐུ་སྣང་བ་མཐའ་ཡས་ངོ་མཚར་ཅན༔

chöku nangwa tayé ngotsar chen

Wondrous dharmakāya Amitābha—'Limitless Light',

སྤྱན་རས་གཟིགས་དབང་མཐུ་ཆེན་ཐོབ་རྣམས་ལ༔

chenrezik wang tuchen tob nam la

Avalokiteśvara and Mahāsthāmaprāpta,1

བདག་གི་རྩེ་གཅིག་ཡིད་ཀྱིས་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས༔

dak gi tsechik yi kyi solwa deb

I pray to you with single-pointed intention:

རྨི་ལམ་ཡུལ་གྱིས་བདེ་ཆེན་ཞིང་བགྲོད་ནས༔

milam yul gyi dechen zhing drö né

Inspire me with your blessings, so that I may travel in my dreams

སྣང་བ་མཐའ་ཡས་མཇལ་བར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས༔

nangwa tayé jalwar jingyi lob

To the Land of Great Bliss and there encounter Amitābha.

  1. Mahāsthāmaprāpta (Tib. mthu chen thob), whose name means 'The One Who Gained Great Power', is one of the two main bodhisattvas who appear in Sukhāvatī together with Amitābha. In Tibetan Buddhism, he came to be identified with Vajrapāṇī, although they are separate bodhisattvas in the sūtras and in other forms of Buddhism.
