One-Syllable Prajñāpāramitā

༄༅། །དེ་བཞིན་གཤེགས་པ་ཐམས་ཅད་ཀྱི་ཡུམ་ཤེས་རབ་ཀྱི་ཕ་རོལ་ཏུ་ཕྱིན་མ་ཡི་གེ་གཅིག་མ་ཞེས་བྱ་བ། །

The Perfection of Wisdom, Mother of All Tathāgatas, ‘In One Syllable’¹

from the Words of the Buddha

རྒྱ་གར་སྐད་དུ། ཨེ་ཀ་ཨཀྵ་རཱི་མཱ་ཏཱ་ནཱ་མ་སརྦ་ཏ་ཐཱ་ག་ཏ་པྲཛྙཱ་པཱ་ར་མི་ཏཱ།

In the language of India: Ekākṣarī-mātā-nāma-sarva-tathāgata-prajñā-pāramitā

བོད་སྐད་དུ། དེ་བཞིན་གཤེགས་པ་ཐམས་ཅད་ཀྱི་ཡུམ་ཤེས་རབ་ཀྱི་ཕ་རོལ་ཏུ་ཕྱིན་མ་ཡི་གེ་གཅིག་མ་ཞེས་བྱ་བ།

In the language of Tibet: Deshin shekpa tamché kyi yum sherab kyi parol tu chinma yigé chikma shé chawa (de bzhin gshegs pa thams cad kyi yum shes rab kyi pha rol tu phyin ma yi ge gcig ma zhes bya ba)

ཡུམ་ཆེན་མོ་ཤེས་རབ་ཀྱི་ཕ་རོལ་ཏུ་ཕྱིན་མ་ལ་ཕྱག་འཚལ་ལོ། །

yum chenmo sherab kyi parol tu chin ma la chaktsal lo

Homage to the Great Mother Prajñāpāramitā!

འདི་སྐད་བདག་གིས་ཐོས་པ་དུས་གཅིག་ན།

diké dak gi töpa dü chik na

Thus have I heard:

བཅོམ་ལྡན་འདས་རྒྱལ་པོའི་ཁབ་བྱ་རྒོད་ཕུང་པོའི་རི་ལ།

chomdendé gyalpö khabja gö pungpö ri la

At one time the Blessed One was dwelling in Rājgṛha at Vulture Peak mountain,

དགེ་སློང་གི་དགེ་འདུན་ཆེན་པོ་བརྒྱ་ཕྲག་ཕྱེད་དང་བཅུ་གསུམ་དང༌།

gelong gi gendün chenpo gyatrak ché dang chusum dang

Together with a great gathering of twelve hundred and fifty monks,

བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་དཔའ་བྱེ་བ་ཁྲག་ཁྲིག་མང་པོ་དང་ཐབས་ཅིག་ཏུ་བཞུགས་སོ། །

changchub sempa jewa trak trik mangpo dang tab chik tu zhuk so

And a great gathering of myriad bodhisattva mahāsattvas.

དེའི་ཚེ་བཅོམ་ལྡན་འདས་ཀྱིས་ཚེ་དང་ལྡན་པ་ཀུན་དགའ་བོ་ལ་འདི་སྐད་ཅེས་བཀའ་སྩལ་ཏོ། །

dé tsé chomdendé kyi tsé dang denpa küngawo la diké ché katsal to

At that time, the Blessed One said to venerable Ānanda:

ཀུན་དགའ་བོ་ཤེས་རབ་ཀྱི་ཕ་རོལ་ཏུ་ཕྱིན་པ་ཡི་གེ་གཅིག་མ་ཞེས་བྱ་བ་འདི་སེམས་ཅན་རྣམས་ལ་ཕན་པ་དང༌བདེ་བའི་ཕྱིར་ཟུང་ཤིག །

küngawo sherab kyi parol tu chinpa yigé chik ma zhejawa di semchen nam la penpa dang dewé chir zung shik

O Ānanda, since The Perfection of Wisdom ‘In One Syllable’ will bring benefit and happiness to sentient beings, please remember it!

chomdendé kyi deké ché katsal pa dang

When the Blessed One had said this,

ཚེ་དང་ལྡན་པ་ཀུན་དགའ་བོ་དང༌། དགེ་སློང་དེ་དག་དང་། བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་དཔའ་སེམས་དཔའ་ཆེན་པོ་དེ་དག་ཐམས་ཅད་ཀྱིས་ཕ་རོལ་ཏུ་ཕྱིན་པ་རྗེས་སུ་རྟོགས་ཤིང་ཡི་རངས་ནས།

tsé dang denpa küngawo dang gelong dedak dang changchub sempa sempa chenpo dedak tamché kyi parol tu chinpa jesu tok shing yirang né

Venerable Ānanda together with all the monks and bodhisattva mahāsattvas realized the perfection of wisdom.

བཅོམ་ལྡན་འདས་ཀྱིས་གསུངས་པ་ལ་མངོན་པར་བསྟོད་དོ།།

chomdendé kyi sungpa la ngönpar tö do

They rejoiced, and thus praised the speech of the Blessed One.

དེ་བཞིན་གཤེགས་པ་ཐམས་ཅད་ཀྱི་ཡུམ་ཤེས་རབ་ཀྱི་ཕ་རོལ་ཏུ་ཕྱིན་མ་ཡི་གེ་གཅིག་མ་ཞེས་བྱ་བ་རྫོགས་སོ།། །།

Thus concludes The Perfection of Wisdom, Mother of All Tathāgatas, ‘In One Syllable’.
