The Finest Jewel

An Aspiration Prayer of Mahāyāna Mind Training

ན་མོ་གུ་རུ།

namo guru

Namo guru!

སྟོན་པ་མཉམ་མེད་ཤཱཀྱའི་རྒྱལ་པོ་དང་།  །

tönpa nyammé shakyé gyalpo dang

Incomparable teacher, king of the Śākyas,

སྤྱན་རས་གཟིགས་དང་རྗེ་བཙུན་སྒྲོལ་མའི་ཞབས།  །

chenrezik dang jetsün drolmé zhab

Avalokiteśvara and reverend noble Tārā,

ཁྲོ་བོའི་རྒྱལ་པོ་མི་གཡོ་མགོན་པོ་དང་།  །

trowö gyalpo mi yo gönpo dang

Lord Acala, sovereign of the wrathful ones,

ལྷ་གཅིག་ཇོ་བོ་ཆེན་པོ་ཡབ་སྲས་རྣམས།  །

lha chik jowo chenpo yabsé nam

Sole deity, great Jowo Atiśa and your heirs—

མི་ངན་བདག་གི་གཙུག་གི་རྒྱན་བཞུགས་ནས།  །

mi ngen dak gi tsuk gi gyen zhuk né

Remain upon my, an evil person's, crown,

སྒོ་གསུམ་ཆོས་དང་འདྲེས་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས།  །

go sum chö dang drepar jingyi lob

And inspire me to mix my body, speech and mind with Dharma.

 

རྟེན་གཞི་ཕུན་ཚོགས་དལ་དང་འབྱོར་པ་འདི།  །

ten zhi püntsok dal dang jorpa di

This perfect support with its freedoms and advantages

དུས་བརྒྱ་ལན་གཅིག་ཐོབ་པ་ད་རེས་ཙམ།  །

dü gya len chik tobpa daré tsam

Presents a one-in-a-hundred-lifetimes opportunity.

མི་ཚེ་སོས་དལ་བསྐྱལ་བའི་མེ་ལོང་ཡིས།  །

mitsé södal kyalwé melong yi

With the mirror of this human life of leisure

བདུད་ཀྱིས་མ་བསླུས་ད་རེས་དོན་ཡོད་དུ།  །

dü kyi ma lü daré dön yö du

Unspoilt by demonic forces, may I make it meaningful

དམ་པའི་ཆོས་ལ་འབད་པ་དྲག་པོས་བརྩོན།  །

dampé chö la bepa drakpö tsön

And exert myself with intense effort in the sacred Dharma.

 

སང་དང་འཇིག་རྟེན་ཕྱི་མའི་སྣང་བ་གཉིས།  །

sang dang jikten chimé nangwa nyi

I cannot be certain which will come first:

སྔོན་ལ་གང་འབྱུང་ངེས་པར་ཆ་མི་འཚལ།  །

ngön la gang jung ngepar cha mi tsal

Tomorrow or the appearances of the next life.

ཡུན་རིང་སྡོད་པའི་གྲབས་ཆུས་ངན་པ་འདིས།  །

yün ring döpé drab chü ngenpa di

And since this wicked habit of procrastination

གཏན་བདེའི་འདུན་མ་བརླག་པར་བྱེད་པས་ན།  །

ten dé dünma lakpar jepé na

Will only ruin my chances of lasting happiness,

མྱུར་བ་མྱུར་བར་ཆོས་ལ་འབད་པར་ཤོག  །

nyurwa nyurwar chö la bepar shok

May I apply myself to the Dharma ever so swiftly.

 

བརྩོན་འགྲུས་ནགས་ཀྱི་མེ་ཆེན་རབ་སྦར་ནས།  །

tsöndrü nak kyi mé chen rab bar né

Having ignited the great forest fire of diligence,

འཁོར་བའི་རྒྱ་མཚོ་སྐེམ་པར་བྱེད་པ་དང་།  །

khorwé gyatso kempar jepa dang

So that the ocean of saṃsāric existence runs dry,

དཀར་ནག་བསགས་པའི་ལས་ལ་གྲངས་མི་ཆོད།  །

karnak sakpé lé la drang mi chö

The incalculable acts, good and bad, that I’ve amassed

གཞན་ལ་བགོ་སྐལ་བྱེད་དུ་མ་མཆིས་ཤིང་།  །

zhen la go kal jé duma chi shing

Will not be apportioned to anybody else.

རང་བྱས་མཚོན་ཆ་ཐམས་ཅད་རང་ལ་འཁོར།  །

rang jé tsöncha tamché rang la khor

All the weapons I’ve forged will be deployed against me,

རང་གི་ཕུང་པོར་མྱོང་བ་གདོན་མི་ཟ།  །

rang gi pungpor nyongwa dön mi za

And I will undoubtedly experience my own comeuppance.

དཀར་ནག་ལས་ཀྱི་འབྲས་བུ་མ་ནོར་བ།  །

karnak lé kyi drebu manorwa

May I find certainty as to the infallible ripening of actions,

སྨིན་ལ་བསླུ་བ་མེད་པའི་ངེས་རྙེད་ཤོག  །

min la luwa mepé ngé nyé shok

The unerring fruition of wholesome and unwholesome acts.

 

ལས་ངན་བསགས་པའི་འབྲས་བུ་ཆེན་པོ་ནི།  །

lé ngen sakpé drebu chenpo ni

As the major consequence of accumulated evil deeds,

འཁོར་བའི་གནས་ན་སྡུག་བསྔལ་རྒྱུན་ཆད་མེད།  །

khorwé né na dukngal gyünché mé

I will suffer uninterruptedly in the realms of saṃsāra.

ངན་སོང་གསུམ་གྱི་སྡུག་བསྔལ་བཟོད་དུ་མེད།  །

ngensong sum gyi dukngal zö du mé

The torments of the three lower realms are unbearable.

མཐོ་རིས་གསུམ་གྱི་བདེ་བ་འགྱུར་ནས་འགྲོ།  །

tori sum gyi dewa gyur né dro

The joys of the higher realms transform and fade away.

ཀུན་འབྱུང་རྒྱུས་བསྐྱེད་སྡུག་བསྔལ་གཟེབ་ཏུ་ཚུད།  །

künjung gyü kyé dukngal zeb tu tsü

We are trapped within the sufferings that origination brings.

སྡུག་བསྔལ་གསུམ་གྱིས་མ་ཁྱབ་རྡུལ་ཙམ་མེད།  །

dukngal sum gyi ma khyab dul tsammé

Not even so much as an atom is immune to the three sufferings.

གནས་ངན་ལེན་གྱིས་རྒྱུན་ཐག་གཅོད་པའི་ཕྱིར།  །

né ngen len gyi gyün tak chöpé chir

In order to interrupt the flow of negative tendencies

ཐར་པའི་ལམ་སྟོན་བཤེས་གཉེན་བསྟེན་པར་ཤོག  །

tarpé lam tön shenyen tenpar shok

May I follow a guide who shows the way to liberation.

 

མ་ནོར་ལམ་བཟང་ཆོས་ཀྱི་ཉིང་ཁུ་ནི།  །

manor lamzang chö kyi nyingkhu ni

May I encounter precious bodhicitta, which is

རིན་ཆེན་བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་དང་འཕྲད་པར་ཤོག  །

rinchen changchub sem dang trepar shok

The essence of Dharma, the excellent, unmistaken way.

 

སྐྱབས་གནས་བླ་མ་མཆོག་གསུམ་དྲན་པ་དང་།  །

kyabné lama chok sum drenpa dang

May I recollect the sources of refuge, guru and three supreme jewels,

དད་དང་མོས་གུས་ལམ་གྱི་གཞི་རྩ་ཚུགས།  །

dé dang mögü lam gyi zhi tsa tsuk

And with faith and devotion, may I establish the foundation of the path.

 

བླ་མའི་གདམས་ངག་ཁོག་པའི་སྙིང་ལྟར་བཟུང་།  །

lamé damngak khokpé nying tar zung

Guarding the guru's instructions like the heart within my chest,

དུས་རྣམས་ཀུན་ཏུ་གསོལ་བ་དྲག་པོ་འདེབས།  །

dü nam küntu solwa drakpo deb

May I offer fervent prayer at all times,

དཔལ་མགོན་བླ་མའི་བྱིན་རླབས་འཇུག་པར་ཤོག  །

palgön lamé jinlab jukpar shok

And may the glorious guru inspire me with blessings.

 

སེམས་ཅན་འདི་རྣམས་བདག་གི་དྲིན་ཆེན་ཡིན།  །

semchen dinam dak gi drinchen yin

Sentient beings have been so very kind to me:

ཐོག་མ་མེད་ནས་བདག་གི་ཕ་མ་བྱས།  །

tokma mé né dak gi pama jé

They have been my parents throughout beginningless time—

སྐུ་དྲིན་ཚད་མེད་བཏགས་པའི་དྲིན་ཅན་མ།  །

kudrin tsemé takpé drinchen ma

Kind mothers, who have treated me with boundless care.

ད་ལྟ་སྡུག་བསྔལ་རྒྱ་མཚོའི་ཀློང་དུ་ཚུད།  །

danta dukngal gyatsö long du tsü

Now they are immersed in the ocean of suffering,

སྡིག་དང་སྡུག་བསྔལ་ཆུ་སྲིན་གྱིས་བཟུང་རྣམས།  །

dik dang dukngal chusin gyi zung nam

Seized by the sea monsters of misery and misdeeds.

ལེགས་པར་བསམ་ན་སྲན་པའི་གོ་སྐབས་བྲལ།  །

lekpar sam na senpé gokab dral

Thinking about this well, it is impossible to bear;

མིག་གི་མཆི་མ་དྲག་ཏུ་འཁྲུགས་པ་དང་།  །

mik gi chima drak tu trukpa dang

It is enough to make me weep profusely

ཤས་མི་བཟོད་པའི་བྱམས་དང་སྙིང་རྗེ་སྒོམ།  །

shé mizöpé jam dang nyingjé gom

And engender overwhelming love and compassion.

རང་གི་བདེ་བ་མ་རྒན་རྣམས་ལ་བྱིན།  །

rang gi dewa magen nam la jin

All my own happiness I transmit to my old mothers,

དེ་རྣམས་སྡུག་བསྔལ་རྒྱུ་འབྲས་རང་ལ་བླངས།  །

denam dukngal gyundré rang la lang

And their suffering, in cause and result, I take upon myself.

ལུས་འདི་ཡང་ནི་གྲངས་མེད་སྦྱིན་བྱས་ནས།  །

lü di yang ni drangmé jin jé né

May I even give away this body of mine countless times

བདག་ཏུ་འཛིན་པའི་འདྲེ་ཆེན་བརླག་པར་ཤོག  །

dak tu dzinpé dré chen lakpar shok

And conquer the terrible demon of self-clinging.

 

ཉེས་པ་ཐམས་ཅད་རང་བདག་འཛིན་ལས་བྱུང་།  །

nyepa tamché rang dakdzin lé jung

All faults arise from my clinging to a self.

དགྲ་ལ་སོགས་པའི་སེམས་ཅན་དེ་ཀུན་ནི།  །

dra lasokpé semchen dé kün ni

All beings including my supposed enemies

ངེས་པར་ཕན་འདོགས་དགེ་བའི་བཤེས་དང་མཚུངས།  །

ngepar pendok geweshé dang tsung

Are simply teachers offering me assistance.

དགྲ་གདོན་བགེགས་སྣང་རང་ཉིད་འཁྲུལ་པ་ཡིན།  །

dra dön gek nang rangnyi trulpa yin

Enemies, demons and obstacles are my own delusion.

ནད་གདོན་ཐམས་ཅད་རྒྱལ་བའི་རྣམ་འཕྲུལ་དང་།  །

nedön tamché gyalwé namtrul dang

Sickness and evil influences are but buddha manifestations,

ལྷ་དང་འདྲེ་རྣམས་བྱང་ཆུབ་སྒྲུབ་པའི་གྲོགས།  །

lha dang dré nam changchub drubpé drok

Gods and demons, assistants of awakening;

ལེགས་དགུ་མཐུན་རྐྱེན་བདུད་ཀྱི་ཆོ་འཕྲུལ་ཡིན།  །

lek gu tünkyen dü kyi chotrul yin

Fortune and advantage, the contrivance of māras.

ན་ཚ་སྡུག་བསྔལ་རྐྱེན་ངན་བྱང་ཆུབ་ཀྱི།  །

natsa dukngal kyen ngen changchub kyi

May sickness, suffering and adversity

སེམས་མཆོག་འཕེལ་བའི་ཐབས་ལ་འབྱུང་བར་ཤོག  །

sem chok pelwé tab la jungwar shok

Assist me as I develop supreme bodhicitta.

 

དགྲ་བོ་མ་ནོར་སྙིང་ལ་ཞུགས་པ་ཡི།  །

drawo manor nying la zhukpa yi

The unmistakable enemy is within my heart:

ང་དང་ང་ཡིར་འཛིན་པའི་འགོང་ཆེན་འདི།  །

nga dang nga yir dzinpé gong chen di

This great demon of attachment to I and mine.

ད་ལྟ་བདག་གི་བླ་མའི་དྲིན་ལས་མཐོང་།  །

danta dak gi lamé drin lé tong

Now that I see it, through the guru's kindness,

ངེས་པར་ཁྱོད་མི་དགའ་བའི་སྡུག་བསྔལ་རྣམས།  །

ngepar khyö mi gawé dukngal nam

I shall certainly take the sufferings that you,

ངེད་ཀྱིས་བླངས་ནས་འགོང་པོ་ཁྱོད་ལ་སྦྱིན།  །

ngé kyi lang né gongpo khyö la jin

O demon, so dislike and give them all to you.

གྲགས་སྙན་འབྱོར་སོགས་ཁྱོད་ལ་དགའ་བའི་རྫས།  །

drak nyen jor sok khyö la gawé dzé

Fame, riches and the things that delight you

གཅིག་ཀྱང་མ་ལུས་འཕྲོག་ནས་ཁྱོད་ཀྱིས་ནི།  །

chik kyang malü trok né khyö kyi ni

I shall steal them all from you without exception

དགྲ་རུ་བཟུང་བའི་སེམས་ཅན་དེ་ལ་སྦྱིན།  །

dra ru zungwé semchen dé la jin

And give them away to the beings you revile.

སྦྱིན་པ་དེ་བཞིན་ངེས་པར་ཐོབ་གྱུར་ཅིག  །

jinpa dezhin ngepar tob gyur chik

May they receive this gift of mine in such a way.

 

ཇོ་བོ་སེམས་ཅན་འདི་རྣམས་བཀའ་དྲིན་ཆེ།  །

jowo semchen dinam kadrin ché

Noble sentient beings are exceptionally kind.

འདི་རྣམས་ལ་ནི་གྲོགས་ངན་བྱེད་པ་རུ།  །

dinam la ni drok ngen jepa ru

May I never seek to awaken myself if this would

བདག་ནི་ནམ་ཡང་སངས་རྒྱས་ལ་མི་སྨོན།  །

dak ni namyang sangye la mi mön

Make me a bad friend to them,

སེམས་ཅན་ཚུལ་གྱིས་སེམས་ཅན་དོན་བྱེད་ཤོག  །

semchen tsul gyi semchen dönjé shok

But act as an ordinary being for ordinary beings' sake.

 

ང་ཡི་ལུས་འདི་ཡིད་བཞིན་ནོར་བུ་ལྟར།  །

nga yi lü di yizhin norbu tar

Let this body of mine become a wish-granting jewel

འགྲོ་བ་རྣམས་ཀྱི་རེ་བ་བསྐངས་བྱས་ནས།  །

drowa nam kyi rewa kang jé né

To fulfil the hopes and aspirations of all beings,

དེ་རྣམས་རྫོགས་སངས་རྒྱས་མཆོག་ཐོབ་པ་དང་།  །

denam dzoksang gyé chok tobpa dang

So that they may attain supreme and perfect awakening,

བདག་གི་སེམས་མཆོག་མ་ཉམས་གོང་འཕེལ་ཤོག  །

dak gi sem chok ma nyam gongpel shok

And may this supreme mind not decline but further increase.

 

དཀའ་སྤྱད་བཟོད་པའི་གོ་ཆ་རབ་བགོས་ནས།  །

kaché zöpé gocha rab gö né

Donning the armour of hardship and endurance,

ཆོས་རྣམས་རང་བཞིན་བདེན་མེད་ཤེས་པ་དང་།  །

chö nam rangzhin denmé shepa dang

May I realise how all phenomena lack true reality.

རང་བཞིན་དོན་དམ་སྟོང་གསལ་འགགས་པ་མེད།  །

rangzhin döndam tong sal gakpamé

And with the supreme vajra mind that has no beginning, middle or end,

ཐོག་མཐའ་དབུས་བྲལ་སེམས་མཆོག་རྡོ་རྗེ་ཡིས།  །

tokta üdral sem chok dorjé yi

The unobstructed emptiness and clarity of the ultimate nature,

སྒྲིབ་གཉིས་མུན་པ་རིང་དུ་སྤངས་བྱས་ནས།  །

drib nyi münpa ring du pang jé né

May I banish the darkness of the two kinds of obscuration,

ཡང་དག་ཡེ་ཤེས་སྣང་བ་རྒྱས་པ་ཡིས།  །

yangdak yeshe nangwa gyepa yi

And with the expansive light of genuine wisdom,

འགྲོ་བའི་དོན་ལ་མཐུ་སྟོབས་རྩལ་ལྡན་ཤོག  །

drowé dön la tutob tsalden shok

Have the power and skill to come to beings' aid.

 

འཇམ་དཔལ་དཔའ་བོའི་རྣམ་ཐར་མངོན་བྱས་ནས།  །

jampal pawö namtar ngön jé né

Realizing the liberational deeds of the heroic Mañjuśrī

བྱང་ཆུབ་སྤྱོད་པའི་རྒྱ་མཚོར་གཞོལ་བཞིན་དུ།  །

changchub chöpé gyatsor zhol zhindu

And immersing myself in oceanic bodhisattva activity

སེམས་ཅན་སྟོང་པར་མ་གྱུར་དེ་སྲིད་དུ།  །

semchen tongpar magyur desi du

For as long as sentient beings remain,

དེ་ཡི་དོན་རྣམས་རབ་ཏུ་སྒྲུབ་པར་ཤོག  །

dé yi dön nam rabtu drubpar shok

May I perfectly accomplish their welfare.

 

སངས་རྒྱས་རྒྱ་མཚོ་མཆོད་པ་བྱེད་པ་དང་།  །

sangye gyatso chöpa jepa dang

May I make offerings to an ocean of buddhas,

ཞིང་ཁམས་རྒྱ་མཚོ་ཡོངས་སུ་སྦྱང་བ་དང་།  །

zhingkham gyatso yongsu jangwa dang

Thoroughly purify an ocean of realms,

སེམས་ཅན་རྒྱ་མཚོ་ཡོངས་སུ་སྨིན་པ་ལ།  །

semchen gyatso yongsu minpa la

Bring to maturity an ocean of beings,

ཡེ་ཤེས་རྒྱ་མཚོ་ཆེ་ལ་འཇུག་པར་ཤོག  །

yeshe gyatso ché la jukpar shok

And access the vast ocean of wisdom.

 

ཅེས་པའང་སྦྲུལ་ཟླ་བ་བརྒྱད་པའི་ཚེས་བཅུ་གསུམ་ལ་བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་དཔའ་བློ་གྲོས་ལུང་རྟོགས་རྒྱ་མཚོ་གཞན་ཕན་དྲི་མ་མེད་པའི་འོད་ཀྱིས་སྙིང་ནས་སྨོན་ལམ་དུ་བཏབ་པ་ངེས་པར་འགྲུབ་པ་ཞིག་བླ་མ་རྒྱལ་བ་སྲས་བཅས་ཀྱི་བྱིན་གྱི་རླབས་ཏུ་གསོལ།  འདི་ཁོ་ན་འགྲུབ་པར་གྱུར་ཅིག།  །།

On the thirteenth day of the eighth month of a snake year, the bodhisattva Lodrö Lungtok Gyatso Shenpen Drimé Ö made this heartfelt aspiration. May the guru, the buddhas and their heirs all grant their blessings so that it may be definitively accomplished. Let this alone come to pass!
