Calling the Guru from Afar

བླ་མ་མཁྱེན་ནོ།  །

lama khyen no

Guru, watch over me!

ལན་གསུམ།

Three times.

སངས་རྒྱས་ཀུན་འདུས་ཀྱི་ངོ་བོ།  །

sangye kündü kyi ngowo

Essence and embodiment of all the buddhas,

ལུང་རྟོགས་དམ་ཆོས་ཀྱི་མཛོད་ཆེན།  །

lungtok damchö kyi dzö chen

Great treasury of the sacred Dharma of scripture and realization,

འཕགས་པའི་དགེ་འདུན་གྱི་མངའ་བདག   །

pakpé gendün gyi ngadak

Sovereign of the noble saṅgha community,

རྩ་བའི་བླ་མ་དེ་མཁྱེན་ནོ།  །

tsawé lama dé khyen no

Root guru, watch over me!

བདག་རྒྱུད་ཆོས་དང་འདྲེས་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རང་རློབས་ཤིག  །

dak gyü chö dang drepar jin gyi rang lob shik

མ་རིག་མུན་པ་སེལ་བའི་ཉི་མ།  །

marik münpa selwé nyima

Sun that dispels the darkness of ignorance,

དགོས་འདོད་ཅི་དགར་འབྱུང་བའི་ནོར་བུ།  །

gödö chi gar jungwé norbu

Jewel providing all that one might wish for or require,

འཁོར་བའི་རྒྱ་མཚོར་སྒྲོལ་བའི་དེད་དཔོན།  །

khorwé gyatsor drolwé depön

Captain leading to deliverance from saṃsāra’s ocean,

རྩ་བའི་བླ་མ་དེ་མཁྱེན་ནོ།  །

tsawé lama dé khyen no

Root guru, watch over me!

བདག་རྒྱུད་ཆོས་དང་འདྲེས་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རང་རློབས་ཤིག  །

dak gyü chö dang drepar jin gyi rang lob shik

སྐྱབས་ཀུན་འདུས་པ་རྩ་གསུམ་གྱི་རྒྱལ་པོ།  །

kyab kündüpa tsa sum gyi gyalpo

Embodiment of all sources of refuge and sovereign of the Three Roots,

དྲན་པ་ཙམ་གྱི་སྲིད་ཞི་ཡི་གདུང་སེལ།  །

drenpa tsam gyi sizhi yi dung sel

The mere thought of whom dispels the anguish of existence and quiescence,

བཀའ་བབས་བདུན་གྱི་གསང་མཛོད་ལ་དབང་བསྒྱུར།  །

kabab dün gyi sangdzö la wanggyur

Controller of the secret treasury of the seven authoritative transmissions,

འོད་གསལ་སྤྲུལ་པའི་བཤེས་གཉེན་དེ་མཁྱེན་ནོ།  །

ösal trulpé shenyen dé khyen no

Spiritual guide Emanation of Luminosity,¹ watch over me!

བདག་རྒྱུད་ཆོས་དང་འདྲེས་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རང་རློབས་ཤིག  །

dak gyü chö dang drepar jin gyi rang lob shik

Inspire me to integrate the Dharma with my own mindstream!

 

རྒྱལ་ཀུན་མཁྱེན་རབ་མ་ལུས་པ་གཅིག་བསྡུས།  །

gyal künkhyen rab malüpa chikdü

Embodiment of the wisdom of all the victorious ones without exception,

སྤྲུལ་པའི་ལོ་ཙཱ་རྣམ་པར་སྣང་མཛད་ཀྱི་ངོ་བོ།  །

trulpé lo tsa nampar nang dzé kyi ngowo

Essence of the emanated lotsāwa Vairotsana,

མཛོད་ལྔའི་ཤིང་རྟ་གངས་ཅན་འགྲོ་བ་ཡི་མགོན་པོ།  །

dzö ngé shingta gangchen drowa yi gönpo

Pioneer of the Five Treasuries, protector of the beings of the Land of Snows,

པདྨ་གར་དབང་བློ་གྲོས་མཐའ་ཡས་དེ་མཁྱེན་ནོ།  །

pema gar wang lodrö tayé dé khyen no

Pema Garwang Lodrö Thayé,² watch over me!

བདག་རྒྱུད་ཆོས་དང་འདྲེས་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རང་རློབས་ཤིག  །

dak gyü chö dang drepar jin gyi rang lob shik

Inspire me to integrate the Dharma with my own mindstream!

 

གཞན་ཕན་ཐུགས་བསྐྱེད་ཀྱི་གོ་ཆ།  །

zhenpen tukkyé kyi gocha

With the armour of an altruistic resolve to awaken,

རྒྱལ་སྲས་བྱང་སེམས་ཀྱི་ཚུལ་བཟུང་།  །

gyalsé changsem kyi tsul zung

You adopt the ways of a bodhisattva heir to the victorious,

མདོ་སྔགས་ཆོས་ཚུལ་གྱི་བང་མཛོད།  །

do ngak chö tsul gyi bangdzö

Veritable trove of Dharma teachings of sūtra and mantra,

འཇམ་དབྱངས་ཆོས་ཀྱི་བློ་གྲོས་དེ་མཁྱེན་ནོ།  །

jamyang chökyi lodrö dé khyen no

Jamyang Chökyi Lodrö, watch over me!

བདག་རྒྱུད་ཆོས་དང་འདྲེས་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རང་རློབས་ཤིག  །

dak gyü chö dang drepar jin gyi rang lob shik

Inspire me to integrate the Dharma with my own mindstream!

 

གནས་འཁོར་ལོ་བཞི་པའི་ཕོ་བྲང་ན།  །

né khorlo zhipé podrang na

In the palace of the four main chakras,

བླ་མ་སྐུ་བཞིའི་ལྷ་ཚོགས་དེ་མཁྱེན་ནོ།  །

lama ku zhi lhatsok dé khyen no

Deities of the four-kāya guru, watch over me!

བུམ་གསང་ཤེར་ཡེའི་དབང་མཆོག་དེ་བསྐུར་ནས།  །

bum sang sher yé wang chok dé kur né

Grant the supreme vase, secret, and knowledge-wisdom empowerments,

སྐུ་བཞིའི་གོ་འཕང་ཐོབ་པ་བྱིན་གྱིས་རང་རློབས་ཤིག  །

ku zhi gopang tobpa jin gyi rang lob shik

And inspire me to attain the level of the four kāyas!

 

མདོར་ན་བྱང་ཆུབ་སྙིང་པོའི་བར་དུ།  །

dorna changchub nyingpö bardu

In short, as from now until I reach the essence of awakening,

རྩ་བའི་བླ་མ་རིན་པོ་ཆེ་ལ།  །

tsawé lama rinpoche la

I pray constantly and with single-pointed focus

རྟག་ཏུ་རྩེ་གཅིག་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས་ན།  །

taktu tsechik solwa deb na

To the precious root guru,

འབད་མེད་མཆོག་ཐུན་དངོས་གྲུབ་སྩོལ་ཅིག  །

bemé chö tün ngödrub tsol chik

Effortlessly bestow the attainments, ordinary and supreme!³

 

ཅེས་པའང་འཇམ་དབྱངས་ཆོས་ཀྱི་བློ་གྲོས་པས་བྲིས་བ་དགེ།  །།

Thus, this was written by Jamyang Chökyi Lodrö. May virtue abound!
