Praise of Jigme Lingpa

༄༅། །འཇིགས་མེད་གླིང་པ་ལ་ཁྱད་འཕགས་བསྟོད་པ་བཞུགས།

In Praise of Jigme Lingpa’s Pre-Eminence

Oṃ svasti!

ཀུན་མཁྱེན་མང་ཡང་ནང་དོན་གཟིགས་པ་དཀོན། །

künkhyen mang yang nang dön zikpa kön

There are many whose knowledge is universal but few who see the inner meaning.

འཇིགས་མེད་གླིང་པ་ཆོས་ཉིད་བདེན་པ་གཟིགས། །

jikme lingpa chönyi denpa zik

Jigme Lingpa saw the truth of dharmatā.

མཁས་པ་མང་ཡང་གྲུབ་པ་ཐོབ་པ་དཀོན། །

khepa mang yang drubpa tobpa kön

There are many scholars but few who attain accomplishment.

རང་བྱུང་རྡོ་རྗེ་འཕགས་པའི་ས་མཐོར་གཤེགས། །

rangjung dorjé pakpé sa tor shek

Rangjung Dorje reached the exalted level of an ārya.

མཁས་པར་སྦྱངས་ཡང་མ་བསླབ་ཤེས་པ་དཀོན། །

khepar jang yang ma lab shepa kön

There are many who study and become learned but few who understand without training.

མཁྱེན་བརྩེའི་མྱུ་གུ་ཆོས་རྣམས་རང་གྲོལ་མཁྱེན། །

khyentsé nyugu chö nam rangdrol khyen

Khyentse Nyugu realized the self-liberation of phenomena.

སྒོམ་ཆེན་མང་ཡང་རིག་པ་མངོན་གྱུར་དཀོན། །

gomchen mang yang rigpa ngöngyur kön

There are many great meditators but few who realize pure awareness.

ཀུན་མཁྱེན་ཆེན་པོ་སྣང་བཞི་ཟད་སར་འཁྱོལ། །

künkhyen chenpo nang zhi zé sar khyol

The great Omniscient One arrived at the exhaustion of the four visions.

འགྲོ་དོན་བྱས་ཀྱང་གཞན་དོན་འབྱུང་བ་དཀོན། །

dro dön jé kyang zhendön jungwa kön

There are those who act for beings but few who secure the welfare of others.

སློབ་བརྒྱུད་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་བསྟན་པ་མཁའ་མཐར་བརྡལ། །

lob gyü nam kyi tenpa kha tar dal

This master’s lineage of disciples spread the teachings unto the far reaches of space.

རྩོམ་པ་མང་ཡང་ལེགས་བཤད་འབྱུང་བ་དཀོན། །

tsompa mang yang lek shé jungwa kön

There are many works of literature but few that are well expressed.

བླ་མའི་གསུང་རབ་རྒྱལ་བའི་བཀའ་དང་མཚུངས། །

lamé sung rab gyalwé ka dang tsung

This guru’s writings are equal to the Buddha’s own Words.

དེ་ལྟར་སྙིགས་དུས་བོད་ཁམས་སྐྱོང་བའི་མགོན། །

detar nyikdü bö kham kyongwé gön

Such was this guardian who looked after Tibet in the degenerate age,

པདྨ་དབང་ཆེན་ཡེ་ཤེས་རོལ་པ་རྩལ། །

pema wangchen yeshe rolpa tsal

Pema Wangchen Yeshe Rolpa Tsal.

འཇམ་དཔལ་བཤེས་གཉེན་བི་མ་མི་ཏྲ་རྣམས། །

jampal shenyen bi ma mi tra nam

An actual manifestation of Mañjuśrīmitra and Vimalamitra,

དངོས་སུ་བྱོན་དང་རྣམ་དབྱེར་མ་མཆིས་པའི། །

ngö su jön dang namyer machipé

And inseparable from them—

འཇིགས་བྲལ་གླིང་པའི་ཞབས་ལ་ཕྱག་འཚལ་ལོ། །

jikdral lingpé zhab la chaktsal lo

Jigdral Lingpa, to you I pay homage!

སྐྱེ་བ་འདི་དང་ཚེ་རབས་ཐམས་ཅད་དུ། །

kyewa di dang tserab tamché du

In this life and in all my future lives,

ཁྱེད་དང་སྐད་ཅིག་མི་འབྲལ་འགྲོགས་པ་དང་། །

khyé dang kechik mindral drokpa dang

May I always accompany you, never parting even for a moment.

ཐུགས་ཡིད་གཅིག་འདྲེས་རིག་པ་འོད་གསལ་གྱི། །

tuk yi chik dré rigpa ösal gyi

May my mind merge with your wisdom mind.

སྐུ་གསུམ་ལྷུན་གྲུབ་གཞོན་ནུ་བུམ་སྐུ་རུ། །

ku sum lhündrub zhönnu bumku ru

And may all be auspicious so that I gain awakening in the youthful vase body,

མངོན་པར་བྱང་ཆུབ་ཐོབ་པའི་བཀྲ་ཤིས་ཤོག །

ngönpar changchub tobpé tashi shok

Wherein the luminous three kāyas are spontaneously present!

ཅེས་པའང་འཇིགས་མེད་ནམ་མཁའི་རྡོ་རྗེས་སོ།། །།
