Lhodrak Kharchu Praise
The Endless Knot of Auspiciousness[1]
A Brief Praise of the Sacred Site of the Awakened Mind

Heart disciple of the vidyādharas Hūṃkāra and Padmākara,
Who received the mandate to practice Yangdak Heruka at the sacred Kharchu cave,
Renowned as Namkhé Nyingpo, the monk from the Nub clan—
Mahāsiddha, who rode upon the sun’s rays, you I recall.
At the mountain's summit, a white crystal stūpa built from layers of snow.
On the mountainside, a rock palace shining with onyx and carnelian.
At the mountain's base, a charnel ground lies within the dense, tangled forest.[2]
To Kharchu, the supreme sacred place of the White Tigress-Faced Ḍākinī, I bow!
The great mountain surrounded by smaller peaks—Heruka and his retinue;
The great river with many streams—naturally resounding with alī-kāli;
The great trees with many smaller trees—the goddesses’ dance, bliss and emptiness—
To that supreme place where worldly appearances cease, I pay homage!
Outwardly, a great fortress made of snow, clouds, earth, rock, water, and trees;
Inwardly, the boundless pure realm of Khecara;[3]
Secretly, the palace of Heruka’s peaceful and wrathful deities—
To this sublime sacred site where experience and realization naturally dawn, I pay homage!
Chakpurchen, accomplishment cave of the great master from Uḍḍiyāna,
Palgyi Pukring,[4] crescent-shaped cave with a single door,
Khönteng Lhakhang, the King’s[5] border-taming temple—
To this seat, home to the vidyādharas of the past, I pay homage!
Nyangral Nyima Özer, emanation of the sovereign king,[6]
Guru Chökyi Wangchuk, inseparable from Avalokiteśvara,
Great Tertön Ratna Lingpa, Langdro’s[7] emanation—
To this treasure site of many profound teachings even now, I pay homage!
A city of devas and asuras without conflict,
A geomantic site, a source of the Dharma, a hermitage, a sacred place, replete with the three supports,[8]
A magical site, where emanated birds and wild animals play—
To this sacred hermitage, which brings benefit to all who are connected to it, both now and in the future, I pay homage!
If it is true that buddha nature pervades all of saṃsāra and nirvāṇa,
Then by the power of that truth, may sentient beings throughout space
Recognize the aggregates, elements, sense fields, and thoughts as the assembly of heruka's deities,
Accomplish the eight syllables of realization—the natural sound of rulu—[9]
Purify the ālaya consciousness into mirror-like wisdom,
Obtain the supreme siddhi of the mahāmudrā vidyādhara, bliss and emptiness inseparable,
And attain the level of the great glorious Yangdak Heruka.
May all these signs of effortless, spontaneous accomplishment be granted to us!
