The Secret Vajra Knot

An Aspiration Prayer of the Three Yogas

བླ་མ་ཡི་དམ་ལྷ་ཚོགས་དགོངས་སུ་གསོལ། །

lama yidam lhatsok gong su sol

Gurus and hosts of yidam deities, turn your attention towards us!

དེང་འདིར་བརྩོན་པས་བསྒྲུབས་པའི་དགེ་བ་དང་། །

deng dir tsönpé drubpé gewa dang

These positive actions we have accomplished through our efforts today,

དུས་གསུམ་བསགས་དང་ཡོད་པའི་དགེ་བ་རྣམས། །

dü sum sak dang yöpé gewa nam

All the merit we accumulate throughout the three times and all the virtue that exists,

བསྡོམས་ཏེ་བླ་མེད་བྱང་ཆུབ་ཆེན་པོར་བསྔོ། །

dom té lamé changchub chenpor ngo

All gathered together, we now dedicate towards great and unsurpassed awakening!

 

དེང་ནས་བྱང་ཆུབ་སྙིང་པོར་མཆིས་ཀྱི་བར། །

deng né changchub nyingpor chi kyi bar

From now until we reach the heart of enlightenment,

རིགས་བཟང་བློ་གསལ་ང་རྒྱལ་མེད་པ་དང༌། །

rik zang losal ngagyal mepa dang

May we be born in a good family, be intelligent and free from pride,

སྙིང་རྗེ་ཆེ་ཞིང་བླ་མ་ལ་གུས་ལྡན། །

nyingjé ché zhing lama la gü den

May we have great compassion, and devotion to the teacher,

དཔལ་ལྡན་རྡོ་རྗེའི་ཐེག་ལ་ངེས་གནས་ཤོག །

palden dorjé tek la ngé né shok

And confidently follow the glorious Vajra Vehicle!

 

དབང་གིས་སྨིན་ཅིང་དམ་ཚིག་སྡོམ་པར་ལྡན། །

wang gi min ching damtsik dompar den

Matured through empowerment and keeping the commitments of samaya,

རིམ་གཉིས་ལམ་ལ་བསྙེན་སྒྲུབ་མཐར་ཕྱིན་ཏེ། །

rim nyi lam la nyendrub tarchin té

On the path of the two stages¹ may we complete ‘approach’ and ‘accomplishment’,

དཀའ་བ་མེད་པར་རིག་འཛིན་གོ་འཕང་བགྲོད། །

kawa mepar rigdzin gopang drö

May we attain the vidyādhara levels² without difficulty,

དངོས་གྲུབ་རྣམ་གཉིས་བདེ་བླག་འགྲུབ་གྱུར་ཅིག །

ngödrub nam nyi delak drub gyur chik

And easily achieve the two types of accomplishment!

 

ཅིར་སྣང་སྒྱུ་འཕྲུལ་དྲྭ་བའི་འཁོར་ལོར་རྫོགས། །

chir nang gyutrul drawé khorlor dzok

May all appearances be realized as perfect, the mandala of the Net of Magical Illusion,

གྲགས་པ་ཐམས་ཅད་བརྗོད་བྲལ་སྔགས་ཀྱི་སྒྲ། །

drakpa tamché jödral ngak kyi dra

All sounds as the inexpressible sound of mantra,

སེམས་ཀྱི་འགྱུ་བ་རང་རིག་འདུས་མ་བྱས། །

sem kyi gyuwa rangrig dümajé

All movement of mind as uncompounded self-knowing awareness,

བདེ་ཆེན་འདུ་འབྲལ་མེད་པར་མངོན་གྱུར་ཤོག །

dechen dudral mepar ngöngyur shok

And may we realize the great bliss that is beyond union and separation!

 

ཉམས་ཆག་རྟོག་སྒྲིབ་མ་སྤངས་གནས་སུ་དག །

nyamchak tok drib mapang né su dak

Without rejecting impairments and breakages, thoughts and obscurations, may they be purified in their own state.

ཕྱི་ནང་གསང་བ་དབྱེར་མེད་རྟོགས་པས་བསྐང༌། །

chi nang sangwa yermé tokpé kang

Through realizing outer, inner and secret to be inseparable, may the samaya commitments be fulfilled.

གང་ཤར་རང་གྲོལ་ཀུན་བཟང་ཀློང་ཡངས་སུ། །

gangshar rangdrol kunzang long yang su

May whatever arises in the mind be liberated by itself in the vast expanse of Samantabhadra,

ངན་སོང་དོང་སྤྲུགས་སྲིད་ཞི་མཉམ་གྱུར་ཅིག །

ngensong dongtruk sizhi nyam gyur chik

May the lower realms be emptied from their depths, and may we realize the equality of saṃsāra and nirvāṇa!

 

ཐིག་ལེ་ཆེན་པོར་སྐུ་དང་ཞིང་ཁམས་རྫོགས། །

tiklé chenpor ku dang zhingkham dzok

Within the Great Sphere the kāyas and buddha fields are perfectly complete,

དམ་ཚིག་ཆེན་པོར་སྤང་བླང་མཚན་མ་དག །

damtsik chenpor panglang tsenma dak

Within the Great Samaya the concepts of abandoning and adopting are purified,

ཁྱབ་བརྡལ་ཆེན་པོར་རེ་དོགས་མདུད་པ་གྲོལ། །

khyabdal chenpor redok düpa drol

Within the Great All-Pervasiveness the knot of hope and fear is loosed,

རྫོགས་པ་ཆེན་པོར་ཆོས་སྐུ་མངོན་གྱུར་ཤོག །

dzogpachenpor chöku ngöngyur shok

Within the Great Perfection may we actualize the dharmakāya!

 

བརྒྱུད་པ་གསུམ་གྱི་བྱིན་རླབས་སྙིང་ལ་ཞུགས། །

gyüpa sum gyi jinlab nying la zhuk

May the blessings of the three lineages³ enter our hearts,

སྒྱུ་འཕྲུལ་དྲྭ་བའི་ལམ་གསང་སེམས་ལ་རྫོགས། །

gyutrul drawé lam sang sem la dzok

And the secret path of the Net of Magical Illusion be perfected in our minds.

ཕྲིན་ལས་རྣམ་བཞི་ལྷུན་གྱིས་གྲུབ་པ་ཡིས། །

trinlé nam zhi lhün gyi drubpa yi

Through the spontaneous accomplishment of the four activities,

མུ་མཐའ་མེད་པའི་འགྲོ་བ་སྒྲོལ་བར་ཤོག །

muta mepé drowa drolwar shok

May we liberate the infinity of beings!

 

ཞི་ཁྲོ་སྤྲུལ་པའི་འཁོར་ལོས་ལུང་སྟོན་ཞིང་། །

zhitro trulpé khorlö lung tön zhing

May the mandalas of peaceful and wrathful emanations guide us with predictions,

མཁའ་འགྲོ་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་བུ་བཞིན་སྐྱོང་བ་དང༌། །

khandro nam kyi bu zhin kyongwa dang

The ḍākinīs protect us as their own child,

ཆོས་སྐྱོང་སྲུང་མས་བར་ཆད་ཀུན་བསལ་ནས། །

chökyong sungmé barché kün sal né

And the Dharma protectors and guardians dispel all obstacles;

ཡིད་ལ་སྨོན་པ་མཐའ་དག་འགྲུབ་གྱུར་ཅིག །

yi la mönpa tadak drub gyur chik

May all our aspirations be fulfilled!

 

རྒྱལ་བའི་བསྟན་པ་དར་ཞིང་རྒྱས་པ་དང༌། །

gyalwé tenpa dar zhing gyepa dang

May the teachings of the buddhas flourish and spread far and wide,

བསྟན་འཛིན་རྣམས་ཀྱི་བཞེད་པའི་དོན་ཀུན་འགྲུབ། །

tendzin nam kyi zhepé dön kün drub

May the aspirations of all the holders of the teachings be fulfilled,

མ་ལུས་སྐྱེ་རྒུའི་འགལ་རྐྱེན་ཀུན་ཞི་ཞིང༌། །

malü kyegü galkyen kün zhi zhing

May each and every being be freed from all adversity,

ཕུན་ཚོགས་མཐའ་དག་ཡིད་བཞིན་འབྱོར་གྱུར་ཅིག །

püntsok tadak yizhin jor gyur chik

And may they receive all that is excellent just as they desire!

 

ཅེས་པའང་རིག་པ་འཛིན་པ་འགྱུར་མེད་རྡོ་རྗེས་སོ། །

1. ↑ This could refer to the generation and completion phases, or to the conceptual phase of yogic practices related to the subtle channels, inner air and essences and the non-conceptual phase of the actual nature of clear light. It could also refer to the two stages of Dzogchen practice, tögal, the stage with appearances, and trekchö, the stage without appearances. See Lala Sönam Chödrup, Collected Works, volume 3, page 366.
2. ↑ The four levels of a vidyādhara are: fully matured vidyādhara, vidyādhara with power over life, mahāmudrā vidyādhara and spontaneously accomplished vidyādhara. According to Lala Sönam Chödrup the first two correspond to the path of seeing, the third to the path of meditation and the fourth to the path of no-more-learning.
3. ↑ The three lineages (Tib. brgyud gsum) are: the mind transmission of the buddhas, the sign transmission of the vidyādharas, and the oral transmission of realized beings.
