Lama Chönam, Chöying Namgyal, was born in the Golog area of eastern Tibet in 1964. His root teacher, Khenpo Munsel, was a direct disciple of one of the great Dzogchen masters of the twentieth century, Khenpo Ngakchung. Lama Chönam escaped Tibet in 1992 and later went to the US where he met and studied under the close guidance of his primary teacher, Dungsé Thinley Norbu Rinpoche. In 1999 Lama Chönam helped establish the Light of Berotsana Translation Group. Over the past two decades, in addition to teaching Buddhist view and meditation and the Tibetan language, Lama Chönam has co-translated and published several books while also assisting in providing oral translation for Khenchen Namdrol Rinpoche’s Dzogchen teachings in the US and abroad.
