Prayer to Great Lion Gesar

༄༅། །སེང་ཆེན་གེ་སར་ནོར་བུའི་གསོལ་མཆོད་ཕྲིན་ལས་ལྷུན་འགྲུབ་བཞུགས། །

The Prayer and Offering to 'The Great Lion, Gesar the Jewel', that Spontaneously Accomplishes Activities

ཇ་ཆང་བཱ་ལིང་སོགས་བཤམས་ཞིང་བྱིན་གྱིས་བརླབས་ནས་འདི་སྐད་དོ།

Arrange and consecrate tea, chang, torma and the like, and then recite as follows:

ཧཱུྃ་ཧྲཱིཿ འཇིགས་རུང་སྲིན་པོའི་གྲོང་ཁྱེར་དཔལ་གྱི་རི། །

hung hrih, jikrung sinpö drongkhyer pal gyi ri

Hūṃ hrīḥ! In the rākṣasa city of terror, on the Copper-coloured Mountain of Glory,

སྐུ་གསུམ་རྒྱལ་བའི་ཞིང་ཁམས་པདྨ་འོད། །

ku sum gyalwé zhingkham pema ö

Lies the three-kāya buddha field of Lotus Light,

དམར་ནག་མེ་དཔུང་འཁྲུགས་པ་དྲག་པོའི་ཞིང༌། །

marnak mepung trukpa drakpö zhing

A wrathful realm, dark red like a raging inferno.

ནང་ལྟར་རྡོ་རྗེ་ལུས་ཀྱི་ཙིཏྟའི་གྲོང༌། །

nangtar dorjé lü kyi tsitté drong

Within our vajra body, this is the city of the heart,

རིག་འཛིན་དཔའ་བོ་མཁའ་འགྲོའི་ཕོ་བྲང་ནས། །

rigdzin pawo khandrö podrang né

And there—in the palace of vidyādharas, ḍākas and ḍākinīs—

སྲིད་ཞི་མཉམ་ཉིད་ཡེ་ཤེས་རྡོ་རྗེའི་སྐུ། །

sizhi nyamnyi yeshe dorjé ku

Dwells the indestructible form of wisdom that equalizes saṃsāra and nirvāṇa,

རབ་འབྱམས་རྒྱལ་བའི་སྤྱི་གཟུགས་མཚོ་སྐྱེས་རྗེའི། །

rabjam gyalwé chizuk tsokyé jé

The embodiment of all the infinite buddhas—Padmasambhava, the Lake-born Lord.

ཐུགས་རྗེའི་རྩལ་སྣང་སྒྱུ་མར་རོལ་པའི་གཟུགས། །

tukjé tsalnang gyumar rolpé zuk

The power of his compassion magically takes form.

རྣལ་འབྱོར་གྲུབ་པ་ཕོ་མོའི་ཚོགས་དང་བཅས། །

naljor drubpa pomö tsok dangché

Thronged by yogins and siddhas, male and female,

མོས་ལྡན་བུ་ལ་བྱིན་གྱིས་བརླབ་པའི་ཕྱིར། །

möden bu la jingyi labpé chir

So that you can grant us devoted sons and daughters your blessing,

བརྟུལ་ཞུགས་རྡོ་རྗེ་གར་གྱི་མཁའ་ལམ་ནས། །

tulzhuk dorjé gar gyi khalam né

You appear from out of the sky, in your vajra dance of yogic conduct,

བདུད་འདུལ་དགྲ་བླ་ཝེར་མའི་སྐུར་བཞེངས་ཏེ། །

düdul drala wermé kur zheng té

And arise as our protector, the tamer of māras, the drala werma:

རིག་འཛིན་ཆེན་པོ་འཛམ་གླིང་རྒྱན་མཆོག་རྩལ། །

rigdzin chenpo dzamling gyen chok tsal

Great vidyādhara, supreme ornament of this world,

ཤེས་རབ་རལ་གྲི་མདའ་གཞུའི་འཕྲུལ་འཁོར་གྱིས། །

sherab raldri dazhü trulkhor gyi

Wielding your sword of wisdom, your arrows and your bow,

སྲིད་པའི་དགྲ་སྡེ་འཇོམས་པའི་མཐུ་བོ་ཆེ། །

sipé dra dé jompé tuwo ché

Powerful, mighty conqueror of legions of saṃsāric enemies,

སྐྱེས་མཆོག་སེང་ཆེན་ནོར་བུ་སྐུ་འཁོར་དཔུངས། །

kyechok sengchen norbu kukhor pung

Supreme being, 'Great Lion Jewel', Sengchen Norbu Dradül, with an army of attendants,

མ་ལུས་འཁོར་དང་བཅས་པ་ཐམས་ཅད་ཀུན། །

malü khor dang chepa tamché kün

Your entire retinue, each and every one,

དཔའ་བོའི་ཀི་བསྭོ་ཆ་སྒྲ་འབྲུག་ལྟར་སྒྲོགས། །

pawö kiso chadra druk tar drok

Thunders out the warriors’ cry: Ki Ki! So So!

དགེ་མཚན་སྙན་པའི་བ་དན་མཁའ་ལ་ཕྱར། །

getsen nyenpé baden kha la char

Your famous banner, emblem of auspiciousness, flies high in the sky,

རྡོ་རྗེའི་རྟ་མཆོག་བཞོན་པའི་བྲོ་གར་གྱིས། །

dorjé tachok zhönpé drogar gyi

Your steed, the supreme vajra horse, beneath its hooves

བར་ཆད་དམ་སྲིའི་སྲོག་སྙིང་ཚལ་པར་འགེམས། །

barché damsi soknying tsalpar gem

Crushes the hearts and the life force of obstacle-makers and damsi demons.

བྱིན་རླབས་སྤྲིན་འཁྲིགས་དངོས་གྲུབ་ཆར་རྒྱུན་འབེབས། །

jinlab trin trik ngödrub char gyün beb

From your clustering clouds of blessings, pour down an unending rain of siddhis!

སྐལ་ལྡན་བདག་གིས་མཆོད་ཅིང་མངའ་གསོལ་ན། །

kalden dak gi chö ching ngasol na

When we fortunate ones make offerings to you, when we exalt you,

ཐོགས་མེད་ཐུགས་རྗེའི་དབང་གིས་འདིར་གཤེགས་ལ། །

tokmé tukjé wang gi dir shek la

Let your compassion be limitless, and come, now, to this place!

བདུད་རྩི་དཔའ་སྐྱེམས་ཕུད་ཀྱི་མཆོད་པ་བཞེས། །

dütsi pa kyem pü kyi chöpa zhé

Accept the best of the offerings, this nectar—the triumphant drink of warriors!

བཅུད་ལྡན་ཡིད་བཞིན་གཏོར་མའི་མཆོད་པ་བཞེས། །

chüden yizhin tormé chöpa zhé

Accept this offering of torma, that possesses the vital force, and fulfils every wish!

ཁྲག་ཆང་མྱོས་བྱེད་ཨརྒྷཾ་མཆོད་པ་བཞེས། །

trak chang nyöjé argham chöpa zhé

Accept this offering of drink, rakta and intoxicating alcohol!

འོད་གསལ་དྲི་ཞིམ་བསང་གི་མཆོད་པ་བཞེས། །

ösal drizhim sang gi chöpa zhé

Accept this smoke offering of clear light and fragrant incense!

དར་སྣ་བ་དན་རོལ་མོའི་མཆོད་པ་བཞེས། །

darna baden rolmö chöpa zhé

Accept this offering of silks and banners and music!

བདེ་སྟོང་ཉམས་མྱོང་གསང་བའི་མཆོད་པ་བཞེས། །

detong nyamnyong sangwé chöpa zhé

Accept this secret offering—experiences of bliss and emptiness!

སྣང་སྲིད་གཞིར་བཞེངས་མདོས་ཀྱི་མཆོད་པ་བཞེས། །

nangsi zhir zheng dö kyi chöpa zhé

Accept this offering of the entire universe in the form of the thread-cross!

ཐམས་ཅད་མཉམ་ཉིད་ཡེ་ཤེས་མཆོད་པ་བཞེས། །

tamché nyamnyi yeshe chöpa zhé

Accept this offering of primordial wisdom that equalizes all things!

 

ཐུགས་རྗེས་དགོངས་ཤིག་སེང་ཆེན་རིན་པོ་ཆེ། །

tukjé gong shik sengchen rinpoche

Look on us with your compassion, Mighty Lion, Precious One!

དམ་བཅའ་མ་གཡེལ་རིགས་གསུམ་སྤྲུལ་པའི་སྐུ། །

damcha mayel rik sum trulpé ku

Don’t ever neglect your promise, for you are the emanation of Mañjuśrī, Avalokiteśvara and Vajrapāṇi!

དེང་ནས་བྱང་ཆུབ་བར་དུ་མི་འབྲལ་བར། །

deng né changchub bardu mindralwar

From now until enlightenment, never let us be apart!

བསྲུང་སྐྱོབས་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས་ལ་ཕྲིན་ལས་སྒྲུབས། །

sung kyob jingyi lob la trinlé drub

Guard us, defend us, grant us your blessings, carry out your enlightened actions!

 

ཁྱོད་ནི་སྙིང་རྗེ་མཆོག་གི་རང་བཞིན་སྟེ། །

khyö ni nyingjé chok gi rangzhin té

You are the embodiment of love—of empathy supreme,

ཐུགས་རྗེ་ཆེན་པོའི་མཚོན་ཆེན་རྣམ་པར་འཆང༌། །

tukjé chenpö tsön chen nampar chang

Armed with all the weapons of great compassion.

བདུད་ཀྱི་དཔུང་རྣམས་འདུལ་ལ་མཆོག་ཏུ་གྱུར། །

dü kyi pung nam dul la chok tu gyur

You are the greatest at subjugating negative forces;

བདུད་བཞིའི་འཇིགས་པ་མཐའ་དག་ཁྱོད་ཀྱིས་སོལ། །

dü zhi jikpa tadak khyö kyi sol

You are the one who dispels all fear of the four māras!

 

མཁྱེན་རབ་དགོངས་པའི་ཀློང་ནས་རྩལ་ཕྱུངས་ལ། །

khyen rab gongpé long né tsal chung la

Bring out the power of your omniscient wisdom mind,

སྐལ་ལྡན་སྙིང་གི་དབུས་སུ་བྱིན་ཆེན་ཕོབ། །

kalden nying gi ü su jin chen pob

And pour your vast blessing into the very core of our hearts!

རྩ་རླུང་རིག་ཁམས་ཡེ་ཤེས་རྩིས་ཐོབ་ལ། །

tsalung rik kham yeshe tsi tob la

Coat our channels, inner air, and awareness with primordial wisdom,

གང་བྱས་བྱང་ཆུབ་ལམ་དུ་བསྒྱུར་བར་མཛོད། །

gang jé changchub lam du gyurwar dzö

And make whatever we do turn into the path to enlightenment!

 

བདུད་འདུལ་དྲག་པོ་སྔགས་ཀྱིས་གཟི་འབར་ཞིང༌། །

düdul drakpo ngak kyi zibar zhing

Grant us the siddhis of power and mastery

སྐྱེ་རྒུའི་མོས་སྣང་ཆོས་ལ་བསྒྱུར་བ་ཡི། །

kyegü mö nang chö la gyurwa yi

Over the two activities—annihilation and caring for beings—

ཚར་གཅོད་རྗེས་སུ་བཟུང་བའི་ཕྲིན་ལས་ལ། །

tsarchö jesu zungwé trinlé la

So we possess a dazzling command over the fierce mantras that subjugate māras,

དབང་འབྱོར་མཐུ་སྟོབས་ནུས་པའི་དངོས་གྲུབ་སྩོལ། །

wangjor tutob nüpé ngödrub tsol

And can turn the minds of living beings towards the Dharma!

 

སྙིང་ག་དཔལ་གྱི་བེའུའི་གསང་མཛོད་ནས། །

nyingga pal gyi be ü sangdzö né

Within that secret treasury, the endless knot that is our heart,

གཟུངས་སྤོབས་བློ་གྲོས་ནོར་བུའི་གཏེར་སྒོ་ཕྱེས། །

zung pob lodrö norbü tergo ché

Fling open the door to the jewels of memory, brilliance and intelligence!

གཞན་ཕན་མཁའ་དང་མཉམ་པའི་ཕྲིན་ལས་ཀྱིས། །

zhenpen kha dang nyampé trinlé kyi

Let altruistic activity be as vast as space,

དོན་གཉིས་ཡིད་བཞིན་གྲུབ་པར་མཛད་དུ་གསོལ། །

dön nyi yizhin drubpar dzé du sol

And accomplish the benefit of ourselves and others, just as our minds desire!

 

བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་ལྡན་ཀུན་བཟང་སྤྱོད་པ་ཡིས། །

changchub semden kunzang chöpa yi

Let us possess the awakened mind of bodhicitta, and act just like the bodhisattva Samantabhadra.

ཟབ་མོ་རྡོ་རྗེ་ཐེག་མཆོག་ལ་གནས་ནས། །

zabmo dorjé tek chok la né né

And then, by following the sublime vehicle of the profound Vajrayāna,

ས་ལམ་མངོན་པར་རྟོགས་པ་ཆེར་འཕེལ་ཞིང༌། །

salam ngönpar tokpa cher pel zhing

Make our realization of the paths and stages grow ever greater,

མྱུར་དུ་རྣམ་གྲོལ་རྒྱལ་བའི་དབང་པོར་མཛོད། །

nyurdu namdrol gyalwé wangpor dzö

So that we swiftly attain complete liberation, the supreme enlightened state of the conquerors!

 

ཅེས་པའང་ལྕགས་འབྲུག་ཟླ་ཚེས་ལ་མི་ཕམ་པས་གང་ཤར་བྲིས་པའོ།།  །།

Mipham wrote this—just whatever came into his mind—on the eighth day of the sixth month of the Iron Dragon year (1880).
