Prayer for the Long Life of Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche

༄༅། །མཚུངས་བྲལ་སྤྲུལ་པའི་སྐུ་མཆོག་༧རྫོང་སར་མཁྱེན་སྤྲུལ་ཐུབ་བསྟན་ཆོས་ཀྱི་རྒྱ་མཚོའི་ཞབས་བརྟན་གསོལ་འདེབས་བཞུགས་སོ། །

A Supplication for the Longevity of the Peerless and Sublime Tulku, Dzongsar Khyentse, Thupten Chökyi Gyatso

ཨོཾ་སྭསྟི།

om svasti

Oṃ svasti!

རྒྱལ་མཆོག་ཐུབ༵་དབང་སྟོབས་བཅུ་མངའ་བའི་བདག །

gyal chok tubwang tob chu ngawé dak

Majestic lord of the ten powers and supreme victor, Buddha, the king of sages,

རྒྱལ་སྲས་བརྒྱད་དང་གནས་བརྟན་གཏད་རབས་སོགས། །

gyalsé gyé dang neten té rab sok

Eight great Bodhisattvas, Sixteen Arhats, Seven Entrusted Ones and more;

རྒྱལ་བསྟན༵་མི་མཇེད་ཞིང་འདིར་སྣང་བྱེད་པའི། །

gyalten mijé zhing dir nangjé pé

You who illuminate the teaching of Buddha in this world –

རྒྱལ་སྲས་ཚོགས་ཀྱིས་འཕོ་མེད་བྱིན་མཆོག་སྩོལ། །

gyalsé tsok kyi pomé jin chok tsol

Children of the Buddha, bestow your supreme and changeless blessing.

 

མཚར་སྡུག་ལང་ཚོ་མཚན་དཔེའི་གཟི་འབར་སྐུ། །

tsar duk langtso tsenpé zibar ku

Your beautiful and youthful form is ablaze with the marks of perfection;

ཟབ་ཡངས་ཆོས༵་ཚུལ་ཚངས་དབྱངས་དྲུག་ཅུའི་གསུང་། །

zab yang chö tsul tsang yang drukchü sung

Your voice, teaching the vast and profound Dharma, is melodious with sixty qualities;

རྒྱལ་ཀུན་ཐུགས་ཡོན་ཕྲིན་ལས་ཡོངས་ཀྱི༵་དཔལ། །

gyal kün tuk yön trinlé yong kyi pal

And your mind, the wisdom of all the victorious ones, is replete with the glory of awakened qualities and activity –

མཚོ་སྐྱེས་རྡོ་རྗེས་འཆི་མེད་མཆོག་གྲུབ་མཛོད། །

tsokyé dorjé chimé chok drub dzö

Padmavajra, grant the supreme accomplishment of immortality.

 

བྲལ་སྨིན་ཡོན་ཏན་ཆ་རྫོགས་མཁྱེན་བརྩེའི་དབང་། །

dral min yönten cha dzok khyentsé wang

Force of kindness and knowledge¹ – free and fully mature, your qualities are perfect;

ལུང་རྟོགས་ཆོས་ཀྱི་བློ་གྲོས་རྒྱ༵་མཚོ༵འི་གཏེར། །

lungtok chökyi lodrö gyatsö ter

Treasure of the oceanic intelligence of the Dharma² of scripture and realization;

མཁས་གྲུབ་དབང་པོ་ཡེ་ཤེས་སྒྱུ་མའི་གར། །

khedrub wangpo yeshe gyumé gar

Illusory dance of wisdom, you are a master of learning and accomplishment –

མཚུངས་བྲལ་སྤྲུལ་པའི་སྐུ་མཆོག་རྟག་བཞུགས་གསོལ། །

tsungdral trulpé ku chok tak zhuk sol

Peerless and Sublime Tulku, please remain forever.

 

འཇམ་མགོན་བླ་མ་མཁྱེན་དང་བརྩེ་བའི་གཏེར། །

jam gön lama khyen dang tsewé ter

Thupten Chökyi Gyatso, you are the supreme heart disciple of our guru,

གཏེར་ཆེན་གར་དབང་རབ་གསལ་ཟླ་བ་ཡི། །

terchen gar wang rabsal dawa yi

The lordly Rabsel Dawa, Gentle Protector, the great majestic tertön,

ཐུགས་སྲས་མཆོག་གྱུར་ཐུབ་བསྟན་ཆོས་རྒྱ་མཚོ། །

tuksé chokgyur tubten chö gyatso

A veritable treasure of compassion and wisdom.

ཞབས་པད་རྟག་བརྟན་བཞེད་དོན་ལྷུན་གྲུབ་གསོལ། །

zhabpé takten zhedön lhündrub sol

May your life remain forever secure and your wishes be effortlessly fulfilled.

 

ཆོས་ཀྱི་ཕུང་པོ་བརྒྱད་ཁྲི་བཞི་སྟོང་རྣམས། །

chö kyi pungpo gyé tri zhi tong nam

You have thoroughly discerned the eighty-four thousand bundles of Buddha's teaching,

ཆོས་རབ་རྣམ་འབྱེད་ཡང་དག་རིགས་པ་ཡིས། །

chö rab namjé yangdak rikpa yi

And, with a fine intelligence,

ཆོས་སྐད་གསར་པས་འཛམ་གླིང་ཐ་གྲུ་ཀུན། །

chöké sarpé dzamling tadru kün

You explain them in new ways throughout the entire world.

ཆོས་བཞིན་སྐྱོང་མཁས་མགོན་ཁྱེད་རྟག་བཞུགས་གསོལ། །

chö zhin kyong khé gön khyé tak zhuk sol

Protector skilled in sustaining the ways of the Dharma – please remain forever.

 

ལྔ་བརྒྱའི་ཐ་མར་བོད་ཡུལ་རྒྱལ་བའི་བསྟན། །

ngabgyé tamar böyul gyalwé ten

In these, the last five hundred years of the Buddha's Word in Tibet,

ཤིན་ཏུ་ཉམ་ཐག་རྟོག་གེས་བསྟན་དཀྲུག་ཚེ། །

shintu nyamtak tokgé ten truk tsé

Many hard-headed and obnoxious intellectuals have sought to confuse Buddha's authentic teaching.

ཉམས་རྟོགས་རྩལ་དང་གྲུབ་པའི་རྣམ་དཔྱོད་ཀྱིས། །

nyamtok tsal dang drubpé namchö kyi

In reply, with a display of experience and realization, along with the accomplishment of sublime wisdom,

སྒྲུབ་བརྒྱུད་བླ་རུ་འདེགས་མཛད་རྟག་བཞུགས་གསོལ། །

drubgyü la ru dek dzé tak zhuk sol

You raise the status of the practice lineage – please remain forever.

 

ཚད་མེད་ཐབས་མཁས་རིག་གསར་འཕྲུལ་ལམ་ནས། །

tsemé tabkhé rik sar trul lam né

Master of limitless means, you are skilled in new ways of explaining the magical path.

བསྡུ་བ་རྣམ་བཞིའི་འོད་རླབས་འབྱེད་མཁས་པའི། །

duwa nam zhi ö lab jé khepé

You skilfully send out the light waves of the four means of attracting disciples,

སྒྱུ་མའི་འགྲོ་ལ་སྒྱུ་མའི་བརྡ་སྟོན་མཁན། །

gyumé dro la gyumé da tön khen

And, having seen the illusory nature of saṃsāra and nirvāṇa,

འཁོར་འདས་སྒྱུ་མར་གཟིགས་ཁྱེད་རྟག་བཞུགས་གསོལ། །

khordé gyumar zik khyé tak zhuk sol

Use illusory means to demonstrate the Dharma to illusory beings – please remain forever.

 

མདོར་ན་བོད་ཡུལ་རྒྱལ་བའི་རིང་ལུགས་ཀྱི། །

dorna böyul gyalwé ringluk kyi

In essence, you are a complete master of the unmistaken and wonderful paths

བཤད་དང་སྒྲུབ་པའི་ལམ་བཟང་མ་ནོར་བ། །

shé dang drubpé lamzang manorwa

Of explaining and accomplishing the long-established Buddhist traditions of Tibet,

ཡོངས་རྫོགས་དབང་བསྒྱུར་གོང་མའི་རྣམ་ཐར་བཞིན། །

yongdzok wanggyur gongmé namtar zhin

In keeping with the exemplary lives of your predecessors.

སྐྱོང་མཁས་མཁས་གྲུབ་དབང་པོ་རྟག་བཞུགས་གསོལ། །

kyong khé khedrub wangpo tak zhuk sol

Master of learning and accomplishment who is skilled in sustaining these paths – please remain forever.

 

ཟབ་དགོངས་ལྷ་ལམ་ཡངས་པོར་རྟག་ཤར་བའི། །

zab gong lha lam yangpor tak sharwé

The piercing light that brings benefit and happiness through unflinching truth and fresh insights

དྲང་བདེན་རིག་གསར་ཕན་བདེའི་འོད་རྣོན་ཅན། །

drang den rik sar pendé ö nönchen

Has dawned permanently within the vast celestial pathway of your profound realization

ལུགས་རྙིང་རྨོངས་གཉིད་འཆིང་རྒྱ་བཀྲོལ་མཁས་པའི། །

luk nying mong nyi ching gya trol khepé

To awaken us from the slumber of old, outdated ways and set us free.

བཞེད་དགོངས་ལྷུན་གྲུབ་མཛད་འོད་ཀུན་ཁྱབ་སྨོན། །

zhegong lhündrub dzé ö künkhyab mön

May the brilliance of your wishes and intentions effortlessly pervade everywhere.

 

གཞི་དབྱིངས་ཀ་དག་འགྱུར་མེད་ཀུན་ཁྱབ་ཀློང་། །

zhi ying kadak gyurmé künkhyab long

The dhātu of the ground is an all-pervasive expanse that is unchanging and primordially pure;

ལྷུན་གྲུབ་འོད་གསལ་འཕོ་མེད་བདེ་བ་ཆེ། །

lhündrub ösal pomé dewa ché

Its natural luminosity is unchanging great bliss;

མཉམ་ཉིད་མི་གཡོ་ལྷུན་མཉམ་ཡངས་པ་རུ། །

nyamnyi mi yo lhün nyam yangpa ru

Their evenness is vastness itself, unwavering and spontaneous.

གཞོམ་གཞིག་ཡོངས་བྲལ་འཕོ་ཆེན་དྭངས་སྐུར་སྨོན། །

zhomzhik yongdral po chen dang kur mön

May you remain in the pure kāya of great transference beyond dissolution or destruction.

 

ཞེས་པའང་གངས་ལྗོངས་རིས་མེད་བསྟན་པ་རྒྱ་མཚོའི་མགོན་གཅིག་འཇམ་པའི་དབྱངས་དངོས་༧རྫོང་སར་འཇམ་དབྱངས་མཁྱེན་བརྩེའི་རྣམ་རོལ། ༧འཇམ་མགོན་བླ་མ་དིལ་མཁྱེན་རབ་གསལ་ཟླ་བའི་ཐུགས་སྲས་རྣམས་ཀྱི་ཐུ་བོ། ༧རྫོང་སར་མཁྱེན་བརྩེ་ཐུབ་བསྟན་ཆོས་ཀྱི་རྒྱ་མཚོ་མཆོག་བོད་ལུགས་དགུང་གྲངས་རེ་གཅིག་ཕེབས་པ་དགུང་ཀེག་ལས་དགྲོལ་བའི་རྟེན་འབྱུང་ཆེད་རབ་བྱུང་བཅུ་བདུན་པའི་ལྕགས་བྱི་ལོའི་ཟླ་ ༡༡ པའི་ཚེས་ ༡༠ ཉིན་ཞེ་ཆེན་རབ་འབྱམས་སྤྲུལ་མིང་ནས་གུས་ཕུལ།། །།

The sole protector of the oceanic teachings of the land of snows is Mañjuśrī himself – the play of Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse, who is the foremost amongst the heart-sons of our guru, the gentle protector, Dilgo Khyentse Rabsel Dawa – the supreme, Dzongsar Khyentse, Thupten Chökyi Gyatso. According to the Tibetan calendar this, his sixty-first year, is an obstacle year. Thus, I, the one who holds the name of Shechen Rabjam Tulku, wrote this supplication on the tenth day of the eleventh month of the Iron Mouse year during the seventeenth calendrical cycle, and humbly offered it with the prayer that it might act within mutual dependence and overturn said obstacles.
