Invocation Prayer from Tārā Sādhana
༄༅། །རྗེ་བཙུན་སྒྲོལ་མའི་ཐུགས་དམ་གནད་ནས་བསྐུལ་བའི་གསོལ་འདེབས་བཞུགས་སོ། །
A Prayer to Invoke the Wisdom Mind of the Noble Lady Tārā
from The Wish-Fulfilling Jewel: A Sādhana of Yeshe Tsogyal as Noble Tārā

ན་མོ་གུ་རུ་བྷྱ༔
Namo gurubhyaḥ!
རྗེ་བཙུན་སྒྲོལ་མ་ལ་ཐུགས་དམ་གནད་ནས་བསྐུལ་ཞིང་སྨྲེ་སྔགས་ཀྱིས་གསོལ་བ་བཏབ་པ་ནི༔ རྗེ་བཙུན་འཕགས་མའི་རྟེན་གྱི་དྲུང་དུ་ཐལ་སྦྱར་པུས་བཙུགས་ལུས་བ་སྤུ་གཡོ་བས༔ གདོང་མཆི་མ་འབྱིན་ཅིང་བུ་མ་ལ་གདུངས་ནས་ངུ་བའི་ཚུལ་དུ་འདི་ལྟར་བྱའོ༔
The method for invoking the Noble Lady Tārā’s wisdom mind and calling out to her in lamenting prayer is as follows. Before an image of the Sublime Mother, recite the following prayer with palms joined and knees bent, with the hairs of your body standing on end and tears streaming down your face, as you cry like a child calling out for its mother:
ཀྱེ་ཧུད་འཕགས་མ་བྱམས་ལྡན་ཐུགས་རྗེ་ཅན༔
kyehü, pakma jamden tukjé chen
Kyéhü! Noble Lady of loving kindness and compassion,
རྒྱལ་བའི་ཡུམ་ཁྱོད་གནས་མཆོག་གང་ན་བཞུགས༔
gyalwé yum khyö né chok gang na zhuk
Mother of the Victorious Ones, wherever you abide in the pure lands—
སྐྱབས་མེད་བདག་ལ་དགོས་པའི་དུས་བྱུང་ངོ་༔
kyabmé dak la göpé dü jung ngo
For us who are without refuge, the time of need has come.
ཐོག་མེད་དུས་ནས་ད་ལྟར་ཐུག་གི་བར༔
tokmé dü né dantar tuk gi bar
From beginningless time until this very moment,
རིགས་དྲུག་འཁོར་བའི་གཡང་ས་དོང་རིང་འདིར༔
rik druk khorwé yangsa dong ring dir
In the deep and perilous abyss of saṃsāra’s six realms,
སྐྱེ་བ་གྲངས་མེད་ཤ་ཁྲག་ལུས་བླངས་ཀྱང་༔
kyewa drangmé sha trak lü lang kyang
We have taken on flesh-and-blood bodies through countless births.
བྱས་པའི་ལས་ལ་དོན་མེད་ཆུད་རེ་ཟོས༔
jepé lé ladön mé chü ré zö
Yet all that we have done has been futile and wasted.
སྐྱེ་བ་ལན་གཅིག་ཙམ་ཞིག་ཐར་པའི་ལམ༔
kyewa len chik tsam zhik tarpé lam
Have we even once, in any lifetime,
སྒྲུབ་པའི་འབྲེལ་ཡང་བདག་གིས་མ་ཞོགས་སམ༔
drubpé drel yang dak gi ma zhok sam
Made a true connection with the path of liberation?
འཕགས་མའི་ཐུགས་རྗེས་བདག་ཉིད་བཏང་སྲིད་དམ༔
pakmé tukjé daknyi tang si dam
Could it be that your compassion, O Sublime Mother, has forsaken us?
ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཟུངས་དང་འཕགས་མ་རྒྱལ་བའི་ཡུམ༔
tukjé zung dang pakma gyalwé yum
Please hold us with your compassion, Sublime Lady, Mother of the Victorious!
བདག་ཉིད་མ་རིག་ལས་ངན་སྡིག་སྒྲིབ་ཅན༔
daknyi marik lé ngen dikdrib chen
We are shrouded by ignorance, negative karma, misdeeds, and obscurations.
མགོན་མེད་བདག་ནི་མ་ཡིས་མ་གཟིགས་སམ༔
gönmé dak ni ma yi ma zik sam
Will you, O Mother, not look upon us, we who have no other refuge?
གདུང་བའི་ང་རོས་འོ་དོད་བོས་ལགས་ན༔
dungwé ngarö odö bö lak na
When we cry out in sorrow and lamentation,
མ་ཁྱེད་བརྩེ་བའི་ཐུགས་རྗེས་མི་འཛིན་ནམ༔
ma khyé tsewé tukjé mi dzin nam
Will you, O Mother, not embrace us with your loving compassion?
རིགས་དྲུག་འཁོར་བའི་དོང་དུ་ལྷང་ལགས་ན༔
rik druk khorwé dong du lhang lak na
When we have fallen into the pit of saṃsāra’s six realms,
འཕགས་མའི་ཐུགས་རྗེའི་ཞགས་པས་མི་འདྲེན་ནམ༔
pakmé tukjé zhakpé mi dren nam
Will you, Sublime Mother, not draw us out with the lasso of your compassion?
མ་རིག་མུན་པའི་ཡུལ་དུ་གཏན་འཁྱམས་ན༔
marik münpé yul du ten khyam na
When we wander endlessly in the dark lands of ignorance,
འཕགས་མས་ཐུགས་རྗེའི་སྒྲོན་མེ་མི་སྦོར་རམ༔
pakmé tukjé drönmé mi bor ram
Will you, Sublime Mother, not light the lamp of your compassion?
ལས་ཀྱི་ཡུལ་དུ་དབང་མེད་འཁྱམས་ལགས་ན༔
lé kyi yul du wangmé khyam lak na
When we wander helplessly in the realm of karma,
མ་གཅིག་ཐུགས་རྗེའི་ལྕགས་ཀྱུས་མི་འཛིན་ནམ༔
ma chik tukjé chakkyü mi dzin nam
Will you, Sublime Mother, not seize us with the hook of your compassion?
དགེ་བའི་མྱུ་གུ་ལོ་ཏོག་སྐམ་ལགས་ན༔
gewé nyugu lotok kam lak na
When the sprouts and harvest of virtue have withered,
འཕགས་མས་ཐུགས་རྗེའི་ཆར་རྒྱུན་མི་འབེབས་སམ༔
pakmé tukjé char gyün mi beb sam
Will you, Noble Mother, not send the ceaseless rain of your compassion?
ཞེ་སྡང་དུག་ལྔའི་མེ་ཆེན་འབར་ལགས་ན༔
zhedang duk ngé mé chen bar lak na
When the great fire of hatred and the five poisons blazes,
མ་ཁྱེད་ཐུགས་རྗེའི་ཆུ་ཡིས་མི་བརླན་ནམ༔
ma khyé tukjé chu yi mi len nam
Will you, Mother, not extinguish it with the waters of compassion?
དུག་གསུམ་འཁྲུལ་བའི་ནད་ཀྱིས་གདུངས་ལགས་ན༔
duk sum trulwé né kyi dung lak na
When we are afflicted by the disease of the three poisons and delusion,
མ་ཁྱེད་ཐུགས་རྗེའི་སྨན་གྱིས་མི་གསོ་འམ༔
ma khyé tukjé men gyi mi so am
Will you, Mother, not heal us with the medicine of compassion?
དུས་འདིར་མ་ཁྱེད་ཐུགས་རྗེས་མ་བཟུང་ན༔
dü dir ma khyé tukjé ma zung na
If you do not hold us with your compassion at this very moment,
དེང་ནས་ཕྱིན་ཆད་ངེས་པའི་གནས་མེད་དོ༔
deng né chinché ngepé nemé do
From now on there will be no place of certainty for us.
ཀྱེ་མ་ཀྱི་ཧུད་འཕགས་མ་ཐུགས་རྗེ་ཅན༔
kyema kyihü, pakma tukjé chen
Kyéma kyihü! O compassionate Sublime Mother,
བདག་ལ་རེ་ལྟོས་སྐྱབས་གནས་གཞན་ན་མེད༔
dak la ré tö kyabné zhen namé
We have no refuge or hope apart from you.
སྐྱིད་སྡུག་རེ་ལྟོས་གཅིག་གྱུར་ཁྱོད་ཤེས་ན༔
kyiduk ré tö chik gyur khyö shé na
Knowing that our joy and suffering depend on you alone,
ཐུགས་རྗེའི་དཔའ་ཚན་སྐྱེད་ཅིག་རྗེ་བཙུན་མ༔
tukjé pa tsen kyé chik jetsünma
Please awaken your noble compassion, Sublime Mother.
འཁོར་བའི་གནས་སུ་ཡུན་རིང་གཏན་འཁྱམས་ནས༔
khorwé né su yün ring ten khyam né
Having wandered for so long in the realms of saṃsāra,
ནམ་ཞིག་ལས་ཟད་འབྲས་བུ་ཐོབ་པའི་ཚེ༔
namzhik lé zé drebu tobpé tsé
When someday our karma is exhausted and we have attained the fruition,
འཕགས་མའི་ཐུགས་རྗེས་ཅི་འཚལ་དོན་མ་མཆིས༔
pakmé tukjé chi tsal dön ma chi
What use then would it be to seek the Noble Lady’s compassion?
ལས་དབང་བཙན་ཞེས་བདག་ཉིད་བོར་གྱུར་ན༔
lé wang tsen zhé daknyi bor gyur na
If we are cast aside, saying, “the force of karma is strong,”
ཐུགས་རྗེ་ཆེ་ཞེས་སྐྱབས་གནས་སུ་ལ་བྱེད༔
tukjé chezhé kyabné su la jé
To whom shall we cry, “Great Compassionate One,” as our refuge?
འཕགས་མ་ཁྱེད་ལ་ཐུགས་རྗེའི་སྟོབས་མངའ་ཞིང་༔
pakma khyé la tukjé tob nga zhing
O Sublime Mother, your compassion is mighty and enduring,
སྔོན་འབྲེལ་གསོལ་བཏབ་བདེན་པ་མི་བསླུ་ན༔
ngön drel soltab denpa mi lu na
If our past prayers and connections are not in vain,
ཐུགས་ལ་ལེ་ལོ་བཏང་སྙོམས་མ་མཛད་པར༔
tuk la lelo tangnyom madzepar
Please do not remain indifferent, nor turn your heart away—
སྐད་ཅིག་ཉིད་ལ་ཐར་པར་འདྲེན་དུ་གསོལ༔
kechik nyi la tarpar dren du sol
In this very moment, we implore you: lead us to liberation.
ཚེ་འདིར་མི་མཐུན་རྐྱེན་ངན་བར་གཅོད་དང་༔
tsé dir mitünkyen ngen barchö dang
Unfavourable conditions, negative circumstances, and obstacles,
རྒྱལ་པོ་མེ་ཆུ་ལྕགས་སྒྲོག་དུག་དང་མཚོན༔
gyalpo mé chu chakdrok duk dang tsön
Tyrants, fires, drowning, captivity, poison, weaponry,
རིམས་ནད་སྣ་ཚོགས་ཆོམ་རྐུན་དུས་མིན་འཆི༔
rimné natsok chomkün dümin chi
Epidemics, thieves, untimely death,
དགྲ་དང་བགེགས་སོགས་རྨི་ལམ་མཚན་ལྟས་ངན༔
dra dang gek sok milam tsen té ngen
Enemies and obstructors, bad dreams and evil omens,
ཆག་ཆེ་ཉམ་ང་འཇིགས་པ་བརྒྱད་ལ་སོགས༔
chak ché nyam nga jikpa gyé lasok
Calamities and disasters, the eight dangers and so forth—
མ་ལུས་ཞི་ཞིང་བཟློག་པར་མཛད་དུ་གསོལ༔
malü zhi zhing dokpar dzé du sol
Please pacify and avert all these adversities without exception!
ཚེ་དབང་ལོངས་སྤྱོད་དཔལ་འབྱོར་ཕྲིན་ལས་རྣམས༔
tsewang longchö paljor trinlé nam
Please increase our life, wealth, prosperity, and activities,
གོང་ནས་གོང་དུ་འཕེལ་ཞིང་རྒྱས་པར་མཛོད༔
gong né gong du pel zhing gyepar dzö
Evermore, let them flourish!
ཁམས་གསུམ་སྲིད་གསུམ་སྣང་སྲིད་ཐམས་ཅད་ཀྱི༔
kham sum si sum nangsi tamché kyi
Please bring the three planes, the three realms,
སྣང་བ་དབང་དུ་འདུ་བར་མཛད་དུ་གསོལ༔
nangwa wang du duwar dzé du sol
The entire phenomenal world, under our control!
བདུད་དང་དགྲ་བགེགས་འབྱུང་པོའི་ཚོགས་རྣམས་ཀུན༔
dü dang dragek jungpö tsok nam kün
Please perform wrathful activities,
ཚར་གཅོད་དྲག་པོའི་ཕྲིན་ལས་མཛད་དུ་གསོལ༔
tsarchö drakpö trinlé dzé du sol
And utterly destroy the hordes of demons, enemies, obstacles, and evil spirits!
བདག་ནི་རྩེ་གཅིག་ཟོལ་ཟོག་མེད་པ་ཡིས༔
dak ni tsechik zolzok mepa yi
With single-pointed devotion and without pretence,
ཁ་ཙམ་མ་ཡིན་སྙིང་ནས་གསོལ་བཏབ་པས༔
kha tsam mayin nying né soltab pé
We pray not merely with words but from the heart:
འགྲོ་འདུག་ལས་བྱེད་གང་གི་ཕྱོགས་སུ་ཡང་༔
droduk lejé gang gi chok su yang
Wherever we go, whatever we do,
བུ་གཅིག་མ་བཞིན་བརྩེ་བས་བསྐྱང་དུ་གསོལ༔
bu chik ma zhin tsewé kyang du sol
Please care for us with love, like a mother for her only child!
འདི་དང་ཕྱི་མ་བར་དོའི་གནས་སྐབས་སུ༔
di dang chima bardö nekab su
In this life, the next, and the intermediate states,
འབྲལ་མེད་རྟག་ཏུ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་གཟུང་དུ་གསོལ༔
dralmé taktu tukjé zung du sol
Please hold us with your compassion, inseparably and forever.
བདག་གི་རྒྱུད་ལ་མི་རྟག་བྱམས་སྙིང་རྗེ༔
dak gi gyü la mi tak jam nyingjé
Within our very being, may we master impermanence, love, and compassion,
དད་དང་བརྩོན་འགྲུས་ངེས་འབྱུང་སྐྱོ་ཤས་དང་༔
dé dang tsöndrü ngejung kyoshé dang
Faith, diligence, renunciation, and disenchantment with saṃsāra,
ཟབ་མོའི་དོན་དང་སྟོང་ཉིད་ལྟ་བའི་མཆོག༔
zabmö dön dang tongnyi tawé chok
Understanding of the profound meaning, and the supreme view of emptiness.
རྟག་ཏུ་ཉམས་ལེན་སྐྱོ་ངལ་མེད་པ་དང་༔
taktu nyamlen kyo ngalmé pa dang
May we continuously practice without fatigue,
ཚེ་དང་སྒྲུབ་པ་མཐའ་རུ་ཕྱིན་པར་ཤོག༔
tsé dang drubpa ta ru chinpar shok
And may our life and spiritual accomplishment reach full completion!
ཅེས་པ་འདི་ནི་གཏེར་ཆེན་ཆོས་ཀྱི་རྒྱལ་པོ་རིག་འཛིན་རཏྣ་གླིང་པའི་ཟབ་གཏེར་མཚོ་རྒྱལ་སྐོར་གསུམ་གྱི་ནང་སྒྲུབ་སྒྲོལ་མའི་ཆོ་ག་ལས་བྱུང་བའོ། །
