The Summoning of Longevity

from Chimé Pakmé Nyingtik, 'The Heart-Essence of the Sublime Lady of Immortality'

revealed by Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo

If you wish to add the Summoning of Longevity after the approach recitation of the mantra and the prayers of offering and praise, say the following:

hung hrih, chö ying kün khyab chenpo lé

Hūṃ Hrīḥ! Out of the space of dharmadhātu, vast and all-pervasive,

magak longchö dzogpé ku

The sambhogakāya of perfect enjoyment arises unobstructedly

tukjé trulpé lha tsok nam

And manifests, through compassion, as the hosts of deities.

ma yel tukdam dü la bap

Do not fail us: now is the time to fulfil your sacred pledge!

tséguk lhamo namgyalma

Deity who summons longevity, Uṣṇīṣayavijayā,

karmo tsé yi bumpa nam

White and holding a long-life vase,

tong kham khyabpé ku trul la

Send out your emanations to fill the billionfold universe!

dorjé chakyu barwa yi

With your glistening vajra hooks,

gyalwa kün gyi tukdam kül

Summon the wisdom mind of all the buddhas,

ten yo kün gyi tsé chü dü

Gather the vital essence of longevity from all that is animate and inanimate,

trashi bumpé nang du kyil

Collect it within your auspicious vases,

tsé ten dzé chok nam la tim

And dissolve it into the supreme substances that are the supports for long life.1

tsé dak yabyum sé dang ché

From the lord of longevity Amitāyus and consort, together with their entourage,

Unimaginable in their many billions:

ku yi dzö pu gul gyi bum

From the coiling hair between their brows, and the vase at their throat,

tukké pal gyi bé'u dang

The glorious eternal knot at their heart,

téwa utpal zab ching khyil

The utpala flower at their navel, deep and spiralling,

dechen jorwé kha sang né

And the secret space of the great bliss of union—

mingyur ku dang gakmé sung

Invoke the siddhis of unchanging body and unobstructed speech,

trul dral yeshé khyentséi tuk

Of primordial wisdom free from delusion, the enlightened mind of knowledge and love,

yönten réwa kongwa dang

Of qualities that fulfil all hopes and wishes,

tokmé trinlé ngödrup kül

And of unimpeded enlightened activity.

Collect them within your auspicious vases,

drup chok nam la wang zhi kur

And grant us supreme practitioners the four empowerments.

From the solid ground of earth and unshakeable mountains,

gyün ring chu lung ten khyil tso

Long, winding rivers and ever-churning oceans,

barwa mé dang top chen lung

Blazing fires and powerful winds,

zhom zhik mépa kun khyap kha

And unbreakable, indestructible, all-pervading space,

kün gyi chü dü bumpar kyil

Gather the quintessence of the elements, collect it within your vases,

drupché kham dang yermé tim

And let it be absorbed inseparably into the bodies of practitioners.

Along with precious gems and medicines to cure all sickness,

The nectar of immortality and nutritious food,

sonam wang tang top chen gyi

From those with great merit, charisma and power

lha lu mi dang nöjin sok

Among gods, nāgas, human beings and yakṣas,

kün gyi tsé dang sonam dü

Gather the merit and vitality of each and every one,

trashi bumpé nang du kyil

Collect it within your auspicious vases,

tsé pal gyépé trinlé dzö

And carry out the activities that increase our lifespan and splendour.

jungpo nam kyi kü taré

In case harmful jungpo demons should steal our lives away,

yar dang nyampa tamché dü

Take care to gather all that has been scattered and declined.

Let the natural radiance of the five lights shine and shimmer,

zer tak mangpo dreng sé dreng

Let endless rays and beams stream and flow,

tiklé mangpo ya la la

Let countless spheres of light pulsate,

düdtsi trak sal num ö bar

So that the nectar of immortality sparkles, gleams, blazes with light,

chimé lü kyi bum zang kheng

And fills the exquisite vase of the deathless body,

gyurwa mépar lhun gyi drup

Spontaneously perfect and forever changeless.

duk nga yeshé nga ru dak

The five poisons are purified into the five wisdoms;

kham nga nyampa jung ngé sö

Any weakening of the five inner elements is healed by the five outer elements;

ö nga barwé chépa tü

The five lights, as they blaze, continue all that has been interrupted,2

tiklé nga yi yowa song

The five bindus straighten what is awry,

düdtsi nga yi gépa jor

The five nectars mend whatever is split,3

dorjéi ku ngar lhun gyi drup

And the five indestructible vajra bodies are naturally perfected.4

Invoke thus by waving the long-life arrow repeatedly.
