If you wish to perform a condensed pacifying fire offering in connection with the Offering to the Gurus1 for the purpose of purifying negative actions, obscurations and impairments, proceed as follows. First, set up the accomplishment maṇḍala. To your right, place melted butter2, offering wood, sesame seeds and other fire offering substances. To your left, arrange amṛta, rakta, torma, feast offerings and the regular offerings. In front of you, set up a customary pacifying fire hearth. At its centre is an eight-petalled lotus with an outer rim marked with vajras; on top of this, stack suitable firewood into a round shape, and place a small butter lamp made from flour, which is to start the fire (ting lo me tshang), to the southeast. Nearby, arrange the funnel and ladle,3 the activity vase, the vajra and bell, and so on. Complete the practice from the refuge through to taking the path empowerment. If you wish to elaborate, include the feast offering as well. Then bless the activity vase with the amṛta mantra.4 To cleanse the offering substances, sprinkle water from the vase and recite:

om benza amritakundali hana hana hung pé

oṃ vajrāmṛta-kuṇḍali hana hana hūṃ phaṭ

And purify with:

om sobhava shuddho sarva dharma sobhava shuddho hang

oṃ svabhāva śuddhāḥ sarva-dharmāḥ svabhāva śuddho ‘haṃ

tongpé ngang lé chödzé dang sekdzé nam rang rang gi ming yik dangpo tiklé gyenpa lé jungwé dütsi ngöpo lé tamché la tokpa mepar kul zhing lhatsok nam gyepa kongwé nüden du gyur

Out of the state of emptiness arise the offering substances to be burned. From the first letter of their names, each decorated with a bindu, manifest the nectar-like substances with the power to carry out all the enlightened activities without obstruction and to fill the deities with delight.

om ah hung ha ho hrih

oṃ āḥ hūṃ ha ho hrīḥ

Recite this many times to bless the substances.

At the end of the mantra,5 add:

om benza dzala dzala hung

oṃ vajra jvala jvala hūṃ

Recite this mantra to light the fire, then cleanse and purify it.

Recite this and contemplate on it.

Recite this seven times while offering seven ladles of melted butter. Then, join the funnel and ladle together face to face and circle them clockwise around the hearth:

Following this same procedure, make one hundred offerings—or however many are appropriate. Offering wood, sesame seeds and any other available substances are also gathered together and offered in the same manner. If you are accumulating a specific count, insert an aspiration to increase the effects after every one hundred mantra repetitions, offering only sesame seeds.10 At the end, present the feast offering, and the thanksgiving offering and praise.

om ah hung, dakzhen lamé tsokchö didak gi

At the end of the mantra, add:

And receive the accomplishments.

Even though you now return to your buddha realm,

Please come again in the future, I pray!

The wisdom being of the hearth departs—vajra muḥ.

damtsikpa rang la tim

The samaya being dissolves into me.

chi yi chöpé trinlé tokmé drub

Through the outer offerings, may unobstructed enlightened activity be accomplished!

May the ultimate luminosity of union be actualized!

Recite this aspiration prayer, then a prayer of auspiciousness. Partake of the feast. From the remainder offering and the offering and praise of the concluding ritual through to the prayer of auspiciousness, follow the text above.11 Likewise, if you wish to carry out one of the other activities, draw the appropriate hearth in its standard form and stack the kind of firewood that corresponds to that activity.

For enriching activity, primarily offer substances such as the finest food, and a mixture of precious stones, grains and medicines. Use the following aspiration to increase the effects:

For magnetizing activity, offer red flowers and fruits saturated with alcohol. Use the following aspiration to increase the effects:

dakchak pönlob khor dang chepé wang du kham sum nöchü kyi pünsum tsokpa tamché wa sham kuru ho

For us teachers, students and retinue, may every excellence of the environment and inhabitants throughout the three realms come under our control—vāśaṃ kuru hoḥ

For wrathful activity, offer mustard seeds mixed with salt. Use the following aspiration to increase the effects:

For us teachers, students and retinue, may all the enemies, obstructing forces and harmful spirits that cause us harm be annihilated—māraya phaṭ.
